If Ryan Howard meets his 2016 projections, he will have posted -1.9 WAR over the life of his contract. Matt Cain is at 0.9 right now with two years to go. I think Howard ends up winning but only because he was actually able to take the field to provide his negative war. Cain gets paid more though
