Green did exceptionally well to escape the jam in the first, but when relievers lose their steam, they lose it in a hurry
Uncle Jimbo

This is basically the alternate channel.
Johnny Bench
6:28
if Gary Sanchez can't block the plate, how did he save 8 runs on defense?
Travis Sawchik
6:28
And what a channel
Jeff Sullivan
6:28
Blocking isn't very important, relative to throwing and framing
Travis has a very pleasing voice. It's one thing you're missing in this text-based format

What's the cliff's notes skinny on Berrios?
Jeff Sullivan
6:29
Very good breaking ball, struggles against lefties
Travis Sawchik
6:29
Jeff has The Face for TV

Didn't MLB stream a couple games as "MLB Now" last year and had the MLBAM guys on to talk sabermetrics on the broadcast? Supposedly the numbers were so bad, hence they stopped it almost immediately.
Jeff Sullivan
6:30
I don't have The Suits
Travis Sawchik
6:30
But they didn't have us
Jeff Sullivan
6:30
Yeah, they did some...MLB Plus? or whatever it was called, but again, not much demand, unfortunately
Jhey
6:30
This is fun...too bad I won't be able to stay up past the 5th

What role does CC serve being on the roster?

How many kids on the East Coast will see the end of this game?
Jeff Sullivan
6:31
Or you mean tonight? Just insurance
Travis Sawchik
6:31
Pays to have 30 ft/sec Sprint Speed
Jeff Sullivan
6:31
There's that Buxton speed!

Is 25 still a kid? Either way the answer for two thumbs here is "unlikely"
Jeff Sullivan
6:32
Really nice job by Gregorius, not that it mattered
Travis Sawchik
6:32
Baseball does have a pace problem
Hugh
6:32
The MLB Plus whatever was terrible.  Nerds fawning over spin rate and other saber stats and not talking about the game.  Watching one of those gave me respect for all the real TV and radio guys.  It's a skill to weave a narrative and keep the audience engaged.
Jeff Sullivan

Ball in the dirt, Buxton moves up...
Travis Sawchik
6:33
So Statcast Vin Scully?
Jeff Sullivan
6:33
Something I wish more people would understand, like Hugh here: being an announcer is very, very hard. Tremendously underrated skill to be able to speak about a game for 200 minutes
Travis Sawchik
6:33
Pretty shocking that Sanchez rates as above-average framer
To me, anyway
Jeff Sullivan
6:34
There are times I think the numbers might be missing something
Travis Sawchik
6:34
Agreed
Jeff Vader
6:34
Depending on how many pictures the winning team has to go through tonight, I'm wondering what sort of downstream impact that will have on the upcoming divisional series
Lachlan
6:34
I have class in 3 hours so if this game could not go 18 innings that'd be great
Jeff Sullivan
6:34
Kids, win your divisions
Travis Sawchik
6:34
What kind of class? Where?
David S.
6:35
I still think there's a ton of noise in framing stats, like pitcher quality and really shitty umpires
Jeff Sullivan
6:35
I'm inclined to agree. I don't think the numbers do enough to control for pitcher identity
Travis Sawchik
6:36
I'd be curious to see how clubs are evaluating receiving
I assume some teams are having their folks go back and evaluate all framing chances
Jeff Sullivan
6:36
I imagine they check the numbers against the eye test. If you don't see the technique, you don't believe the stats
