Kris Bryant had a 68 wRC+ in high-leverage situations this year. That sucks
No one thinks he is unclutch. He *has been* unclutch is all
Nate

Are you married, Jeff? If so, thanks for giving up your evening for us.
Jeff Sullivan
7:34
Dave live-blogged a wild-card game on the night of his literal anniversary
Frostilicus
7:35
good thing the metro is open late tonight
Cam Daveron
7:35
So weiters was right, it was a dead ball?
Jeff Sullivan
7:35
Seems that way to me
7:36
If true, top of the fifth should've ended at 5-4

I feel like employing Michael Taylor has to violate child labor laws
Jeff Sullivan
7:36
Devers too
George
7:36
Does Wieters get a major league contract this offseason?
Jeff Sullivan
7:36
Yep
Curious
7:37
How long did it take for the Red Sox to develop the "cursed" narrative? Nats have only been around for a dozen years or so and good for less than half that time
Jeff Sullivan
7:37
Think it's less a Nats curse and more a DC sports curse. It is, of course, nonsense, but they've had it pretty bad
Kintzler with the ol confidently-walk-off-the-mound-after-strike-three move
Except it wasn't strike three
Blorb
7:38
It wasn't on the backswing. Hit glove, then ball.
Jeff Sullivan
7:38
Not about the interference. About Baez's backswing after he struck out
That Guy
7:38
I guess they can try playing the game under protest?
Jeff Sullivan
7:38
Might as well!
Not that it ever does anything
Mike
7:38
Is wRC+ lower in high leverage situations overall? Due to bringing a reliever in
Jeff Sullivan
7:38
Not meaningfully
Joe D

"If a batter strikes at a ball and misses and swings so hard he
carries the bat all the way around and, in the umpire’s judg-
ment, unintentionally hits the catcher or the ball in back of him on the backswing, it shall be called a strike only (not interference).  The ball will be dead, however, and no runner shall advance on the play."

Haha, Dave also said he was getting his wife DONUTS for their anniversary...and actually, that's the level of romance I'd expect out of Dave Cameron
Jeff Sullivan
7:39
In fairness I can vouch for the donuts. Dave's wife was ecstatic
Evan

Jeff has a girlfriend. She stopped by the Glory Hole Recreation Area a couple weeks back. It's not what it sounds like.
Jeff Sullivan
7:39
Or so she says
Frank
7:39
So do the Nats go with Kintzler -> Madson -> Doolittle, or do they go with the guy from the T-Mobile commercial who Harper directs to the bullpen?
Sadman
7:40
So... What does mlb do about that missed call?
Jeff Sullivan
7:40
Nothing
Frostilicus
7:40
Weiters has a player option for next season, no?
Lyle
7:40
Wieters will pick up his option
Guest
7:40
Wieters knowing the backswing dead ball rule has to be worth a few mil alone
Jeff Sullivan
7:40
Not if he's not persuasive about it!
Matt
7:41
Do the umps/managers not know the backswing rule, or did the umps just not see that it hit Wieters?
Jeff Sullivan
7:41
I imagine the ump didn't see it happen
Ryan King
7:41
Real quick on that passed ball/blown call thing. Seems to me "umpires judgment" implies it is a discretionary call like an infield fly. Wieters was not impacted by Baez's backswing so it would seem like it is acceptable to not call the ball dead
Jeff Sullivan
7:41
This is probably the right defense from the ump's standpoint
Although the "judgment" seems to only apply to the intentionality of it
