Up through at least high school, first base was one of the most important defensive positions. The first baseman is involved in so many plays, and a ton of throws are tough to catch. Is first base so unimportant in the majors because the total amount of throws needing to be scooped is low, or because the variation in the ability of MLB players to scoop is low?

Is the astros bench so thin that Reddick is their best option? Seems like he's really hurt them in big opportunities. Wouldn't Marisnick or Fisher be a better choice? I know clutch isn't predictive, but he's the least clutch player in history, and the WS is extremely high-leverage
