Jeff, assuming the Astros win, who do you think the frontrunners for MVP are? My money is currently on Springer or Bregman.
Jeff Sullivan
5:46
I'm getting a Bregman vibe, pending the series resolution

Jeff, you're a numbers guy - if (a) the Astros win and (b) Verlander has a dominating game (complete game or 8 innings, 0-1 runs), how much does that improve his Hall of Fame chances?
Jeff Sullivan
5:47
I think he's already going to make it eventually. A huge game here would just serve to put him over the top
like a g(ame)6

Jeff, have there been any studies on which kinds of hitters tend to perform better against "good" pitching? Like do contact hitters perform better against Verlander than hr/strikeout hitters?
Jeff Sullivan
5:47
The bigger-picture studies have suggested that power lineups lose less in the playoffs. So perhaps you can take that to the individual level
5:48
Mostly, you should just assume all players will perform like themselves, minus like 10 or 20%
Good high-tight fastball from Verlander to Bellinger

And conversely, if the Dodgers win, who do you think the frontrunners for MVP are? My money is on Bellinger or Forsythe.
Jeff Sullivan
5:48
I think that would come down to who stars the next two days
5:49
Imagine if that Bellinger shot in Game 2 actually left the yard :|

How big of a backlash should we expect Manfred to receive, if it is found that the balls have been messed with?
Jeff Sullivan
5:49
Modest. It's not clear it's actually been a bad thing for the game. You'd just like for there to be more transparency
5:50
That's a fly where Springer misjudged the contact because of the swing
Big swing but Puig kind of got it off the fists

What do you expect out of Verlander next year?
Jeff Sullivan
5:50
Good pitching

picturing MGL blowing a fuse at Smoltz talk about how you do pitch sequencing
Jeff Sullivan
5:51
Pretty sure MGL wants John Smoltz in prison
John Autin
5:52
Would you pull Hill after 2 turns if his numbers are exactly the same as Game 2 and there's no need to pinch-hit?
Jeff Sullivan
5:52
No

"Late break" or "late movement" isn't a thing, right? Like physics is still physics even on a baseball diamond?
Jeff Sullivan
5:52
Correct
5:53
Late break is just a term people use to discuss soft-contact pitches instead of no-contact pitches
Like, cutters are said to have late break, because they're so similar to ordinary fastballs but the end up in a slightly different place

Jeff Sullivan
5:53
I definitely am
Peter

Who is more likely to pitch today, Darvish or Wood?
Jeff Sullivan
5:54
Probably Wood

What is your favorite Halloween candy?
Jeff Sullivan
5:55
I don't love candy but I can justify eating a Snickers without feeling like a piece of shit

What's the strongest language we can use in here, Jeff?

John Smoltz clearly understands and supports framing and spin rate yet he hates shifts and bullpens. What a strange set of ideals
Jeff Sullivan
5:56
I think that Smoltz means well, and he's clearly bright. He's just also wedded to certain playing styles from the days of his own career
Excellent low curve to Pederson
