Moroff has started six of the nine games since Harrison's injury, and Hurdle said he was going to play anyway before the injury.

Do you have any thought as to why Andrew McCutchen looked like Babe Ruth for 2 months and Mario Mendoza for the other 4?? Factoring in last season as well do you think he really is in decline? His poor numbers for 2 years don't lie Bill.

August is easier to diagnose: Pitchers started taking a pass on him and taking their chances with Bell because of how otherworldy he was for two months. He's still been taking good swings. Earlier this year he was struggling with sliders away and high-velocity fastballs, and adjustments in late May helped. Last year remains a real challenge to put a reason on.

Lightning round. Go.

Do you think Bob Nutting will cut payroll even more since attendance and ratings have dropped considerably? Look at Cleveland. Small market team, 125 million dollar payroll and they have a good chance to win the World Series. Why can't Nutting get the payroll to 125 million? Still below the league avg but the extra 30+ million would get this club some better guys.

The Juan Nicasio move certainly indicates that it's not like there's tons of money to spend lying around. They're still getting revenue sharing, though, and it will be interesting to see what effect Disney's investment in MLB Advanced Media has on payrolls across the league.

Who has to want/apply for a fourth option, is it the player or the team?
Bill Brink
12:39
As I understand it, it's the team.

Steven Brault looked like a better hitter than half the team. Sad or exciting?
Bill Brink
12:41
Gotta be exciting. They need offense any way they can get it, right?

Does Bob Nutting know what the fans think of him? Do you think he cares?
Bill Brink
12:44
I know he knows, because I've talked to him about it, and I know he cares. It would seem he compartmentalizes that so he doesn't let it affect business decisions. The team was in bad financial shape when his family invested and he doesn't want to see it return there, but his caring about what fans think has not manifested itself in more spending.

Chances % Kang plays for the Pirates next year?
Bill Brink
12:44
Gotta go with zero, right? He hasn't been allowed back in the country yet, I don't know what will change between now and next February.
12:45
That's it for today guys, thanks for the great questions! We'll do it again next Wednesday.
