What is your take on ushergate? Talked to my usher Sunday, very upset
Bill Brink
12:36
Will need to poke around for more details. Sad to hear, can't say I'm entirely surprised given attendance drop.

Any chance Kevin Newman is the starting 2B next year? Would allow to move JHay to 3B full time.
Bill Brink
12:36
I think they think Newman can play short in the majors, so I don't see them making that move until they decide he can't.
Jeff
12:36
% Kang back next year?
Bill Brink
12:38
Right now, I'd say 0, considering he's applied multiple times and been denied multiple times. It is possible he can show some sign of progress to the State Department -- I don't know what it would be, completion of a treatment program perhaps -- and that will change the calculus.
12:39
Lightning round. Go.
Jeff
12:40
My thought at 4 million, Kang was biggest bargain in baseball and his absence hurt the offense big time. Agree?
Bill Brink
12:40
Agree, he had 25-homer potential and this offense sorely missed power. That's not the only problem it had, but that was a big one.

Does Cutch retire a pirate?
Bill Brink
12:40
I don't think so.
Jeff
12:41
Hudson moved?
Bill Brink
12:41
Don't see it. Owed $5.5 million next year and didn't have a good year, he'll provide more value to the Pirates if they can get him right than by trying to move him.

Mercer has slowed down noticeably to me in field, no range. Maybe trade for SS this winter?
Bill Brink
12:44
On one hand, he's pretty reliable, and they could certainly play him until Newman is ready next year, and shortstops with goo gloves who can hit are somewhat hard to trade for. But I've seen them moved -- Ketel Marte comes to mind -- so I wouldn't rule it out.
12:45
That's it for today, thanks for all the great questions. We'll do this again next week from Milwaukee.
