Steve Adams

Greetings all -- I wonder what we'll have to talk about today!
Mookie Betts
3:05
When...
NOT Mickey Koke
3:05
Mookie!!!!
Jeffrey
3:05
Mookie more likely to the Dodgers or Padres and for what package?
Steve Adams
3:06
Oh. That.
Right.
3:08
I don't have a good answer as to when -- I think the fact that you had tons of good reporters -- Ken Rosenthal, Alex Speier, Kevin Acee, others -- saying Monday or Tuesday just yesterday morning (and no word of a deal yet) underscores the fluidity of these types of talks. I won't be surprised if something comes together in the next few days, but even the most plugged in people -- hell, even Chaim Bloom, AJ Preller and Andrew Friedman -- are going to be hard-pressed to put a specific date/time on a deal.
As for likelier -- I think the Dodgers. And if they're OK parting with Alex Verdugo, that's a really strong starting point for Boston to build upon.

Watson the closer in SF?
Steve Adams
3:10
If we were talking for fantasy purposes, he'd be my pick, but it's probably a situation to steer clear of by and large. The Giants aren't going to win a lot of games, and Gabe Kapler isn't going to adhere to traditional bullpen roles -- particularly not with such an inexperienced group. I'd bet that by June, there are like 4-5 Giants pitchers who've recorded saves

Thoughts on Jarlin Garcia? Seems like he would fit just about anywhere as a young LHRP on the rise.
Steve Adams
3:13
I think that beyond his ERA, the overall profile is underwhelming. He doesn't throw outrageously hard or miss many bats, his control improved but isn't elite. He's also out of minor league options.

He'll probably get claimed or traded somewhere -- lefties who can throw 93 even without exciting spin are always going to intrigue someone. But I wasn't as surprised as some Marlins fans seemed to be.
3:14
Rangers signed Greg Bird, per George King with the NY Post.
minors deal, spring invite
Padres
3:15
Padres were a .500 team before Tatis went down. They added Pham, Grisham, Davies, Pomeranz and Profar. If they add Betts, they should realistically be a wild card contender granted Machado and Hosmer take their game up a notch, along w Lamet, Richards, Paddack all being healthier and better. Should trade for him and rid ourselves of Myers contract, but give up Trammel, Campusano, Lucchessi, AND Naylor? Seems like a ton to give up? Is the holdup an extension??
Steve Adams
3:16
The Padres + Mookie are a wild card contender, yes. There's no extension hold up, because Betts has said repeatedly that he isn't signing one and is going to test free agency.

Was it smart for Ozuna to bet on himself for 1 yr @ 18 mill vs 3 yrs @ 50?
Steve Adams
3:16
I'd have gone with the 3/50 if I were him, but I respect the courage

Can you explain FIP to me?

3:17
Who will be the Jays starting C this season, Jensen or McGuire? is one of them likely to be traded?
Steve Adams
3:18
Jansen should log the most time behind the plate in Toronto, health permitting of course

3:18
Yeah, how will Ozuna get ever by on a mere 18 million?
Steve Adams
3:21
Why does it have to be about him getting by? These guys are the top 0.001% of the world's talent in a game we love to watch and that fans are comfortable investing substantial amounts of money in. Why resent the players for being compensated and for wanting their piece of the revenue? I was referencing a matter of properly contextualizing his own value and place within the game's economic landscape; I'm not sure he'll land a lucrative three- or four-year deal if he repeats his 2019 output is all I was saying. He'd be fine making the league minimum -- as would we all -- but that's not the point.

Why hasnt zaidi bought more prospects? At what level of prospect is it jo longer worth it to buy? Ie we got a first round pick, why not trade for price’s contract for some 5-15 mid tier prospects?
Steve Adams
3:23
The other team needs to be willing to make that type of move as well, which isn't always the case. And at a certain point, ownership is going to put a hold on spending too much money just for volatile minor leaguers.

3:24
Do you realistically see the Diamondbacks have a 90+ win season this year?
Steve Adams
3:25
It's within the realm of possibility, sure, but I think they're more in the mid- or upper-80s myself.
Mets Fan
3:25
In your opinion, who will be the Mets closer to start the season?
Steve Adams
3:25
Edwin Diaz
Oliver H
3:26
Do you see the Reds being a suprise playoff contender?
Steve Adams
3:27
After the moves they've made dating back to the 2019 trade deadline, it's not a surprise if the Reds are contending for a postseason spot.

does MLBTR have a out of options list anywhere? Or better yet a Complete list of players with options remaining?
Steve Adams
3:27
We publish an out of options list every spring.
Freddy Galvis
3:27
Am i going to be teg full time SS in Cincy? Id love to have 500 at bats with half in that park!
Steve Adams
3:29
Seems that way, but the park isn't exactly novel for him. Philadelphia and Toronto are both hitter-friendly as well. Galvis has always had a hitter-friendly home park and never been a great offensive player. He has some power, but he's never going to get on base much, so overall his ceiling is probably a league-average hitter.

3:29
Who will be the Mariners closer?
Steve Adams
3:29
Probably Yoshihisa Hirano or Matt Magill? Not the most inspiring options, I realize.

Name a ballpark you havent been to but want to see one day?
Steve Adams
3:30
I've been to about half of them but still need to make it to PNC. That tops my list of yet-unvisited parks.
