Steve Adams
8:44
Good morning, all! Apologies for the lack of a chat last week. I had some schedule clashes. We'll get back into our normal routine this week at 1pm CT. Looking forward to it!
12:59
Greetings!
Let's get going
La la land
12:59
Assuming St Louis is selling, would Arenado waive his NTC for a change of scenery in Chavez?
Steve Adams
1:00
The Cardinals are 21-14 in their past 35 games and currently hold the second Wild Card spot in the NL. I wouldn't assume they're selling
Win Twins!

I'm hearing rumors of Kirilloff, Festa, and Keaschall for Alonso.  Who doesn't do this trade?  Personally it seems like the Twins are giving up too much for a rental.
Steve Adams
1:00
That's not a rumor. That's a hypothetical trade scenario Jim Bowden threw out in a "5 trades I'd like to see" column at The Athletic. And if the Mets actually asked the Twins for that much, I think the Twins would have a hard time keeping a straight face.
1:01
One of Festa or Keaschall might be feasible for Alonso. Maybe. Even that they might balk at. That combination is bananas.

Why am I still in the minors when the Astros are playing the likes of Singleton and Cabbage?
Steve Adams
1:02
It's been fewer than 10 days since he was optioned. He can't get called back up unless he's replacing someone who's on the injured list.
Ethan
1:02
Do you have a good place to where I can see how many minor league option years remain for players? Hard to find/see that kind info on Baseball Reference or Spotrac. This might be your nerdiest question for the day.
Steve Adams
1:03
FanGraphs and RosterResource. I find RosterResource superior to Spotrac in nearly every conceivable way, though I do like Spotrac's team-by-team IL time counter and a few other features there.

But for actually tracking rosters, payroll, luxury tax, etc. -- RosterResource is the gold standard.
Also, maybe this just makes me nerdy, but I don't find that question nerdy at all!

Will Detroit traded Jack Flaherty? I say give him a 3 or  year extentention. They could have a powerhouse rotation of Skubal Flaherty.Olson and (down the road) Jobe.
Steve Adams
1:04
Zero chance Flaherty takes a three-year deal right now. He's trending toward a nine-figure deal in free agency.

Do Yanks ride it out with Rice or go after a 1B?  Alonzo wouldn’t even have to change apartments ha
Steve Adams
1:05
Depends entirely on how Rice plays over the next few weeks and how Rizzo looks once his arm starts healing. I doubt even Brian Cashman has any legitimate idea as to whether he'll trade for a 1B right now

1:05
If a player is on a team's 40-man roster but playing in the minor leagues and gets hurt and placed on the minor-league 7-day IL, can the team later move him to the MLB 60-day IL to clear a 40-man roster spot? And does that player accrue service time on the 60-day IL even though they were never on the active MLB roster?
Steve Adams
1:05
Yes and yes.
Go Ms
1:05
Does Bryce Miller and Tyler Locklear get is Vlad Guerrero Jr? Any other big moves make sense for Ms?
Steve Adams
1:06
I wouldn't give Miller alone for Vlad right now, let alone both. I love Vlad, but you're talking 4.5 years of Miller for 1.5 of Vlad when he's earning $19MM this year and probably $25MM next year before reaching free agency.

WHEN IS JUNIOR CAMINERO GETTING CALLED UP????
Steve Adams
1:07
He's not even healthy. He won't be back from the minor league IL until early to mid-July.

While it won't impact their division lead, should we expect the Dodgers to make a major trade?  The bottom of their order stinks, and now they're missing Betts and Yamamoto for at least 6 weeks.
Steve Adams
1:08
I think they'll make some kind of trade to address the dearth of production they've gotten from the bottom third of the order, and the Dodgers and other contenders are always good for at least one bullpen acquisition come deadline season.

Carlos is going to give a different team 20 HR and an above-average walk rate every year until the end of time
Steve Adams
1:09
Not EVERY year. He only hit 19 for the '21 Royals and 19 for the '22 Royals/Mariners :)
1:10
But yeah, Carlos Santana is kind of remarkable. Looked really shaky the first month or so and now he's at .277/.353/.542 over his past 175 PAs.
The guy can just hit

Jim Bowden speculates the Twins trade Kirilloff, David Festa, and Luke Keaschall for Alonso. Does this seem realistic? Seems the Mets would ask for more than that
Steve Adams
1:11
Scroll up.
Also, if you think the Mets would ask for MORE than that, you are going to be sorely disappointed if they eventually trade Pete
Guest
1:11
Mariners, what is more realistic, Roberts Jr or Rooker? What do you believe the cost would be?
Steve Adams
1:12
Rooker's far more attainable, mainly because Robert is a better player. Robert wouldn't command a full-on Soto-to-Padres haul, but I think it'd be closer to that than a lot of people expect. 3.5 years of Robert at under $70MM is just an insane bargain, even if you factor in a few notable IL stints.

Will the trade deadline turn into a dud do to so many teams in contention for the final wild card spot in both leagues.
Steve Adams
1:14
Just because there are so many teams in the mix right now doesn't mean that'll be the case in six weeks. I also think the slew of contenders will just prompt teams to be more willing to shuffle around MLB talent to address needs instead of more traditional prospect-for-established-player deals
Len Barker
1:14
any idea why Brian Snitker keeps playing Adam Duvall against RH's??
Steve Adams
1:14
Stubbornness? Ha. I don't know. Duvall has a better track record against RHP than he's shown this year, but that's a low bar to clear. At this point I wouldn't have him near the lineup with a righty starting.
Brady
1:15
I doubt they will, but out of all the teams in the nl wild card mix, I’d like to see Pittsburgh go for it. Skenes, Keller, and Jones is a really good trio and if they can add a solid contributor or two to the lineup I could see them going on a run like the Phillies and diamondbacks the last two years
Steve Adams
1:18
Yeah, I've already got a framework on something along these lines for a look at their offseason that I'll probably write for our subscribers post-deadline, since I think it's a really pivotal offseason for the Bucs. But much of it holds true leading into the deadline. Skenes/Jones/Keller is the makings of such a good rotation, and the lineup has a few bright spots with a decent number of young hitters who still have a chance to contribute. The payroll is light. If ever there was a time for the Pirates to spend on some mid-level free agent bats (or trade for some bats they can control for 3+ years), now's the time to do it.

And the good news for them is that the market keeps squeezing out the exact type of solid mid-tier free agent hitters they could use. That SP trio is really something to dream on... I'm bullish on Pittsburgh's outlook the next few years, especially with that division still mired in mediocrity.
