Do the Cubs finally go get Verlander with Lester hitting the DL?
Steve Adams
3:13
If they thought Lester would miss the rest of the season and the playoffs, maybe they'd try. But there'd still be plenty of obstacles, especially with a gutted farm and an inability to trade young players off their 40-man. (All of those players would have to clear waivers themselves in order to be traded, which isn't happening)

Is Carson Fulmer being called up just for the double header or do the White Sox have plans to keep him with the big club for the rest of the regular season?  Seems odd to me that they used an option on a guy that has struggled so much this year in AAA....
Steve Adams
3:14
They had already used an option on him to send him down to Triple-A to open the season. I'd imagine he'll be sent back down after today and back with the team in September with expanded rosters.

Jahmai Jones - Scouting grades: Hit: 55 | Power: 50 | Run: 60 | Arm: 50 | Field: 60 | Overall: 50, how is he an overall 50?
Steve Adams
3:14
Would be a question to ask Jim Callis or Jonathan Mayo on Twitter next time they do one of their Twitter inbox/mailbag things. Those are their grades and their report, not mine, so I won't try to explain!

Do you think Stanton will *eclipse* the 60 HR mark?
Steve Adams
3:15
I SEE WHAT YOU DID THERE.
No I do not, but he'll probably get close.

3:15
Should I expect Johnny Cueto in my 2018 rotation?
Steve Adams
3:15
At this point, I can't see Cueto opting out, so yeah.
Eddie Cook
3:16
Hi Steve. Who would you guess has the greatest chance of being traded before August 31?
Steve Adams
3:16
New top trade candidates list will be out later this week, but for the time being I have Asdrubal, Rajai, Lowrie, Cozart and Ziegler all high on the list.

Will the Orioles trade Machado this offseason? If so, to who, and what type if return could they except?
Steve Adams
3:19
I think the fact that they were so reluctant to move Britton at this year's deadline indicates that they'll be similarly reluctant to conduct a sale this winter. More likely, they'll try to go for it, and a sale will happen next summer if the O's aren't contending. It doesn't seem that their owner, Peter Angelos, has much interest in signing off on a rebuild, so and parting with the likes of Britton, Machado, Jones, etc. would certainly signal that.

I've been advocating that they do it for more than a year now, though. Angelos does not value my opinion apparently. Ha.

Does the Harper contract argument apply to Manny Machado as well?  Talk about righting the ship in the second half!
Steve Adams
3:21
Yeah Manny has been on a tear. I've said for awhile that if both are raking and healthy when they hit free agency, they'll both top Stanton's deal by a wide margin. I wouldn't scoff at the notion of $400MM+ for a healthy Harper or Machado.

Braves fan who wants moose for 3b next year? 5 years 75 million get him?
Steve Adams
3:21
I'm more at 5/90 myself.

With all of the pitching being roughly a year to two years away for the Padres, but with the offense coming along very nicely, can you see them going out and spending money on a starting pitcher or two this offseason? Or going the scrap heap route again with Richard, Cahill, etc?
Steve Adams
3:22
I'm expecting more of the scrap-heap route... maybe they'll go a bit more aggressive and find some two- or three-year deal candidates (kind of how the Astros did with Feldman when they were at a similar point in their rebuild). But I don't think they're suddenly going to say "Now's the time for Darvish/Arrieta!"

Altuve for MVP...Whatta ya say?
Steve Adams
3:23
Firmly in the mix, but there's still six weeks to play

If Bumgarner did not get hurt this year, would you see him hitting 10-15 HRs?
Steve Adams
3:24
Bumgarner has never even reached 100 PAs in a full, healthy season. I can't see him homering in 12 to 17 percent of his PAs, no
Drew
3:25
The Nationals still need a closer, right? What could the Yankees get for Chapman in the next week? Turner? Rendon? Robles?
Steve Adams
3:26
Nats are probably running with this bullpen, and they're not taking on that contract at this stage, nor would any of those three be on the table for Chapman
(Plus, Rendon and Turner would have to clear waivers, which of course wouldn't happen)
Adam
3:26
Could Matt Chapman win the gold glove next year?
Steve Adams
3:27
+17 DRS in 403 innings, and he's made a pair of outrageously good plays and looked extremely smooth and fluid on routine stuff in the 2-3 games I've seen from him this year. I'm buying.
Dan
3:28
Anyone biting on Asdrubal?  Seems like he's the last man left on the Mets' clearance rack.
Steve Adams
3:29
A bit surprised there's been no movement on the Asdrubal front, just because he's affordable and could slot in at 3 different spots for a contender. Same with Jed Lowrie (even more so with Lowrie, actually). I think at a certain point, we'll see both on the move in the next 10 days. Either is an upgrade over a current utility option on multiple teams.

Biggest threat to the Dodgers in the NLDS? Dbacks or Rockies?
Steve Adams
3:31
I think Arizona, if Robbie Ray gets back healthy. But I don't love either team's pitching depth right now -- the D-backs just started TJ McFarland -- and would pick L.A. to beat either.
Sandy
3:31
What do I need to add to contend next year?
Steve Adams
3:32
Some kind of voodoo magician/witch doctor to keep all of those pitchers healthy? That'll be the largest factor
Mark
3:32
Kind of surprised Miguel Gonzales is still on the White Sox. Will he be traded soon? Even if not for much, makes sense to clear a roster spot for a younger arm.
Steve Adams
3:33
Not much interest in him. He did go unclaimed on waivers. Sox might've moved on if they had more upper-level arms performing well, but guys like Danish, Spencer Adams, Fulmer, etc, have hardly set the minors ablaze.
Luc
3:34
Who locks up the AL wild card spots?
Steve Adams
3:35
This isn't the most out-on-a-limb pick you'll see, but right now I'm going Yankees and Twins. Yankees have the current lead, and the Twins have 8 of their next 11 games against the White Sox. With the exception of the Royals, who are one game over .500, the Twins don't play a team that's currently .500 until something like Sept. 18. Their schedule is ludicrously weak.
