Jose Reyes is starting in LF for the Mets tonight.  I don't have a question based on that, but I would love to hear your take on it.
Steve Adams
3:51
Jose Reyes' mere presence on a big league roster is pitiful and pointless. The Mets could probably find a comparable replacement-level player in Triple-A that didn't assault his spouse. and can also muster something better than a 75 wRC+ or whatever Reyes is presently sporting.

there is actual quotes from Reds management that they will spend a little bit more money on a starter.  Given what you know about the management, their pocket books and position, what is a reasonable target(s)?
Steve Adams
3:53
I think the comments -- at least if they're the ones I'm thinking of, from Bryan Price -- basically just meant to indicate they'll look for more durability than they can reasonably count on from Scott Feldman. Jeremy Hellickson, Jhoulys Chacin, Clayton Richard, Ricky Nolasco ... someone that's going to give them the innings they wanted out of Feldman but still won't break the bank. I wouldn't get too excited about a potential big name.

Do you think Quintana eventually comes around or was he ruined by the World Baseball Classic?
Steve Adams
3:55
I don't think the World Baseball Classic has anything to do with his struggles in the slightest. I don't really understand the notion of blaming the WBC for anything. More players got hurt in Spring Training this year than in the WBC... it's not like these guys wouldn't have been pitching/playing in the month of March. I wouldn't say the WBC is any more responsible for Jose Quintana's mediocre year than I'd say it's responsible for Pat Neshek's age-37 career year.

Does Wood come back to earth next year?  No way he performs again at 2017 levels, right?
Steve Adams
3:59
My concern with Wood isn't that he can't pitch at an elite level but that he can't remain healthy enough to do so. He might not be a low-2.00 ERA guy, but mid or upper 2.00s seem sustainable given his blend of K's, BBs (lack thereof, that is) and grounders. He misses bats in bunches, induces tons of weak contact and has dramatically increased his use of the a changeup that has been the third-most valuable pitch of its type in all of MLB this season.
But he has some shoulder issues in his past, and I think his shoulder troubles this season have extended beyond L.A.'s liberal use of the 10-day DL

If Garcia struggles again tonight do the Yankees finally give Chance Adam a shot? I don't get why they are publicly saying negative things about him when he stats are good. If you don't like him as a prospect then keep your mouth shut and trade him.
Steve Adams
4:01
It's not like they're trashing the guy in public. All I've seen said is that he needs further refinement -- and that type of thing is often not apparent when purely scouting a player's statline. (See: Berrios, Jose circa 2016)

As a lifetime Twins fan I'm really enjoying their "League of Nations" OF play.  Do you think Buxton's recent tear is a sign that he is finally figuring it out, or are we getting punked?
Steve Adams
4:02
I think outside of Buxton's ludicrously poor 4-for-50 start to the season he's been a fine hitter dating back to last September. He'll have his ups and downs, but he's made huge gains in BB%, his K's are down, his hard-hit rate is way up, and he doesn't need to do any more than be a league-average bat to one of the most valuable players in the AL
4:03
Fortunately for the Twins, the recent gains have some degree of staying power (not entirely, obviously -- he's not Babe Ruth), and he looks like he can be a decidedly above-average bat in addition to being a silly good defender. He's a star in my eyes.

if you were the Rockies, would you offer Cargo a QO or let him walk?
Steve Adams

CarGo would accept that QO in a heartbeat. Let him walk.

Is Chase Anderson legit?
Steve Adams
4:05
I've liked Chase Anderson dating back to his D-backs days. I tweeted something at the time about how everyone was going to focus on the other players in the deal but I thought he was a tremendous add for Stearns. He's much better than I anticipated him being, though I'm not exactly buying the fact that he cut his HR/FB completely in half. I think he's a solid mid-3.00s type of guy, though.
mid-3.00s in terms of ERA, that is.
Bet on a Met
4:06
Which, if any, of the injured Met pitchers bounces back to high level performance in 2018?
Steve Adams
4:07
Thor.

Harvey's issues have now spanned multiple seasons, and TOS has a huge attrition rate. The book on Matz was always that he was never going to stay healthy, and it's been three years now since Wheeler looked like a future star.

Due to injuries, which National is more likely to win hardware: Harper (MVP) or Max (CY)?
Steve Adams
4:08
Scherzer is much likelier. He's still going to get to 200 innings and is still flat-out dominant. He won't miss nearly as much of the season as it looks like Harper will end up sitting out.
Plus, as I mentioned before, there are just so many close contenders for MVP among position players. Blackmon, Arenado, Rendon, Seager, Votto, etc. etc. etc.

Ever been to Alaska? For baseball purposes, midnight sun game in Fairbanks on summer solstice is a must see!
Steve Adams
4:10
I have not, but I want to spend a significant amount of time there at some point, and that's getting added to the checklist/bucket list. It sounds awesome. Feel free to regale me with Alaska suggestions on Twitter: @Adams_Steve. I very much want to go in the next couple of years.
Anyhow, I've got to wrap up for the week! Thanks for chatting, as always. You can always ask me more stuff on Twitter (See above)
