Hey everyone, hope you're wrapping up a good day
Let's talk Diamondbacks

Bring back JD Martinez?
Anthony Franco
8:30
I hadn't considered this but yeah, I can see it. They've got a bit of near-term payroll flexibility, Hazen's talked about wanting some right-handed punch
8:31
They haven't seem thrilled about committing to one player at DH, which would be my trepidation, but JD might be enough of a talent to make an exception

Christian Walker is the veteran position player on a very young team. Is trading him at the top of his value worth losing a locker room presence like that?
Anthony Franco
8:32
I don't expect him to move. Wouldn't categorically rule it out, since he'll be 32 and is coming off a career year, but I think he's played his way to the point they'd have to be bowled over to make a deal
Brian
8:33
Do they need to get a right handed bat to balance out their heavy left lineup if so who they go after whether if is free agent or trade etc
Anthony Franco
8:33
Mentioned J.D., could be a fit for Evan Longoria to mix in at third base and DH if they want to go cheaper

Lots of young arms showed out in the last weeks of the season making next season’s rotation very interesting. Who do you think is in the opening day rotation behind Gallen and Kelly?
Anthony Franco
8:34
Bumgarner, one of Nelson/Drey (lean towards Nelson) and an external add
8:35
It's a good market for stable back-of-the-rotation innings. There's a bunch of those guys, they should be able to do better than Davies this time around
Stripling, Smyly, Wacha, Eflin, etc.

Dbacks feel like a great fit for one of those Toronto catchers if the Jays deal one. Moreno for Alek Thomas based deal??
Anthony Franco
8:35
Thomas doesn't have that kind of pull. He'd probably get Jansen but not the younger guys, got a couple questions about flipping him for Kirk as well
Bobby
8:36
I know he has had his problems in NY but I think signing Chapman on a 1-2 year deal get him in a small market low not as high expectations and see what happens. Good idea or no bc I know we need relievers badly
Anthony Franco
8:36
From an on-field perspective, I think it makes some sense. Terrible year but he still throws pretty hard, misses some bats, has ninth-inning experience
8:37
They'd have to do their due diligence as to whether he's a good clubhouse fit though
D backs

Hazen has been linked to Eflin in past. What type of deal for him?
Anthony Franco
8:38
We have Eflin at two years, think between 20 and 25MM total

Most Diamondback fans are over Ahmed and the Perdomo experiment. Do you think there’s a possibility they make a splash for someone like Trea Turner at SS and be a small ball/base stealing team?
Anthony Franco
8:39
I get the disappointment at shortstop. If they run it back with Ahmed and Perdomo, fans should be pretty frustrated
At the same time, I can't see them making a legitimate run at any of the top four guys. It'd just require such a change in spending habit from what the organization has done in the past few years. Turner's going to shatter Greinke money
8:40
Swanson won't be as expensive but you're still looking at maybe $150MM
I feel like a shortstop upgrade is likelier to come via trade

There’s no question the snakes need help at catcher. Do you think moving Varsho behind the plate to be the guy is worth losing his value in the OF with all the additional young outfielders they have?
Anthony Franco
8:40
Nah, he's so good out there. Doesn't seem to be a thing they're considering anymore
Catching takes a toll that could wear on his offense too
Tim
8:41
Can we get anything for Bum if we pay all but $3m left on his deal?   Should we?
Anthony Franco
8:41
I got a bunch of questions about either trading or bullpenning Bumgarner
8:42
Trade is going to require paying down like 75% of his contract. Would someone take him at $3MM annually? Sure, but they're still not going to give up much talent for him and at that point it's probably just worth giving him one more crack
As for the bullpen, I'm not sure it really fits. It's not like he's a power arm whose stuff feels like it'll be elite in shorter stints
8:43
I assume he's back, in the season opening rotation. If he's terrible through mid-May, they'll give serious consideration to just cutting their losses
Tim
8:43
How close are dbacks realistically to about 88 wins in this division next year?  If not that close should we trade such players as Christian Walker whom only has 2 years of control assuming we can get a piece maybe young controllable bullpen arm(s).  Too me it seems pitching especially bullpen is more up and down than position players year to year?
Anthony Franco
8:44
I don't think 88 is crazy depending on what they do with the offseason. Need two relievers, a solid back-end starter, and help with at least one of shortstop or catcher. That's not an outlandish checklist
Dougy
8:44
Could Kiner Falefa be a trade fit?  What would Hazen need to give up?
Anthony Franco
8:45
Sure I could see the Yankees dealing IKF. He's not going to cost a whole lot. Down to his final year of control and the experiment in New York didn't work
kohen robert
8:45
Will the diamond backs try at correa. i’m think 162 million for 5 yrs that’s what they will offer
Anthony Franco
8:45
You're way light on Correa, I think
Mike Hazen
8:45
Where should I look for another starter, 3B, and the pen?  Is it worth moving someone from the farm similar to the Chisholm-Gallen deal - maybe even back to the same Marlins well?
