54 HR Bautista? That is high praise for one Rhys Hoskins.
Dave Cameron
12:45
No, that's peak Bautista.
I'd think more like 2013 Bautista.
12:46
.259/.358/.498, 135 wRC+.

What player have you been wrong about for the longest time (i.e. they over or underperformed your expectations for years)? What type of player do you tend to get wrong most often (e.g. I am incapable of giving good projections to low BB% hitters)?
Dave Cameron
12:46
Matt Cain drove me insane for a long time.
12:47
I'm often skeptical of good-stuff/bad-command prospects, so I'm usually down on guys like Newcomb. But then sometimes, they figure out how to throw strikes and make me look stupid.

Re BP Yanks/Sox playoff odds - Not sure how they're calculated, but is it fair to think that while the remaining schedules think that the Sox are mostly likely to retain the lead they have on the Yanks, the Yanks are better built for the type of play and have better odds against the likely opponents in the post season, to give them higher odds of making it *through* the playoffs?
Dave Cameron
12:49
No matter how heavily you weight roster construction, it's not feasible to think that there's a large enough difference between good teams that a team that has to play an elimination game has better odds than a team that doesn't.
12:50
If we were talking the Dodgers vs the Phillies, and the Dodgers had to play the play-in game, okay. But at the level of teams that are in contention, the spread is too small to overcome a lose-and-you're-out game.

What do you think the chances are of Walker Buehler not only making the postseason roster but playing a key role?
Dave Cameron
12:50
Less than it looked like when he got promoted to Triple-A. He hasn't been very good there.

How should Braves fans view this year at the big league level? Swanson and Teahran have taken steps back, none of the veterans were able to bring back a decent return via trades and the team will win 73 games. Or is the answer be thankful for the enxt 6+ years of Acuna?
Dave Cameron
12:51
Yeah, the development of Acuna is the saving grace for what has otherwise been a terrible year for ATL.

12:52
Who do you think will be the #1 prospect overall going into next season?
Dave Cameron
12:52
Vlad Jr.
12:53
Acuna is making a pretty legit case, but I'd bet Vlad ends up on top in most every ranking.

Can Trout catch up to Altuve in WAR, or is there too little time left?
Dave Cameron
12:53
He's only a half-win behind. He probably will catch him.
Nick
12:54
Thoughts on Lucas Giolito moving forward? I've seen some prominent baseball writers blame the Nationals changing his mechanics as the explanation for his struggles, but how long can that be used as a justification for mediocre results?
Dave Cameron
12:55
Yeah, don't think the Nationals ruined him. I think the stuff has just gone backwards and he's never had great command.
Roy
12:56
How come quality of competition is almost never looked at in a player's stats? Is it just inconvenient or does it not make that much of a difference in a large sample?
Dave Cameron
12:56
In general, it doesn't matter a lot.
It matters a little bit, and it's something we should do a better job of accounting for, but it's nowhere near park factors or something.

I’m building a fire pit in my backyard, what kind of mortar/adhesive would you suggest I use with the stone?
Dave Cameron
12:57
I read that as motor and was going to advise all your neighbors to move ASAP.
When it comes to home repair projects, I'm very good at one thing; finding someone to hire.
Alex
12:58
If you had to nitpick, what do you think the Dodgers' biggest weakness is?
Dave Cameron
12:58
Middle relief.

12:58
The Phillies as contenders narrative completely overlooks their lack of pitching. Nola is good, but he's more of 2/3 than an ace, and they have a pile of hot garbage behind Nola.
Dave Cameron
12:59
Pitching comes out of nowhere a lot more often than hitting. Be honest; did you know who Zack Godley was a year ago?

Assume I prioritize 3B this offseason in Flushing, is it better for me to go after Moose or see if I can trade for one of Machado or Donaldson for Rosario +?
Dave Cameron
1:01
Well, Wright played in a rehab game last night, I believe, so they probably can't go get a full-time replacement for him as long as he keeps trying to come back.
I'd think they'd look more for a guy who can handle 3B everyday but doesn't block Wright entirely if he gets healthy somehow.

I'd be pretty ecstatic if AmRo turned into Orlando Arcia, and btw that is more or less what I'm expecting.
Dave Cameron
1:02
That's good to hear. I fear he's going to turn into a nice solid player and be labeled a bust because expectations are just too high.

Does baseball ever reach football levels of specialization that we'd have a whole different batch of players playing defense and run the bases than the ones who hit?
Dave Cameron
1:03
I doubt it.
Alright, off to get some writing done. Thanks for hanging out everyone.
