Happy Wednesday, everyone.
Travis and I will be live blogging Game 2 tonight, so it's a chatting kind of day for me.
12:01
Plenty of WS stuff to talk about, but we'll also do some off-season stuff if you're a fan of one of the other 28 teams that just wants the hot stove season to get here already.

The Astros have looked lost at the plate for the majority of this postseason.  I know Kershaw is a great pitcher, but how much of last night was him pitching well vs. the Astros not having a good plan and letting a lot of hittable pitches go.
Dave Cameron
12:02
It's impossible to know, obviously, but it did seem like Houston just wasn't seeing the ball very well most of the night. They complained repeatedly about clear strikes, Reddick especially. I wonder if they weren't use to the Dodgers Stadium batters eye or something.

My favorite nugget of the post season: The Dodger bullpen has given up the fewest runs of any team this post season, including the Rockies and Twins one game.
Dave Cameron
12:03
The Dodgers bullpen has been something else.
12:04
Which tells you how fast things can change, because during their losing streak, the bullpen was terrible and everyone was claiming it was the same old dodgers.

What are the indians most likely to do? resign Jay Bruce? or Carlos Santana... or Exercise Michael Brantleys option?
Dave Cameron
12:05
Maybe none of those things? With Encarnacion at DH, I don't know if they'll want to commit to any more players who might need DH time. Santana's fine at first base, but he's a former catcher heading into his mid-30s, so it's not hard to think that he might start having some health problems.
12:06
I could see them trying to bargain hunt for a 1B in January or February, with the money they save there going to a legit outfielder.

What kind of return do you think the Yankees can get for Betances? Would a team trade MLB talent for him, or would it be like two minor-league lottery tickets?
Dave Cameron
12:08
I think you could get a lower ceiling MLB guy for him. When I mentioned a possible fit with the Pirates, who have a lot of young starters and like to fix high-velocity RPs with command problems, I was thinking maybe someone like Steven Brault would work as a return. Not an impact arm, maybe, but a decent swing guy who could give the team cheap rotation depth.

Gut feeling: Does Dusty get another chance?
Dave Cameron
12:10
I don't think anyone thought Washington getting eliminated was his fault, so I'd generally say yes, but I'm not sure which team would hire him right now, given the clear trend towards younger managers who are willing to use data.

Who closes for the Cubs next year?  A re-signed Davis, Edwards, Strop, Maples, or an external candidate?
Dave Cameron
12:10
Someone from outside the organization.

12:11
chance machado gets dealt before/during the season. what would be expected back in the deal
Dave Cameron
12:11
During is most likely, once the Orioles get into June or July and realize "hey, we're still not very good"
Hannah Hochevar
12:11
Were you surprised they didn't pinch hit for keuchel to lead off the 6th?
Dave Cameron
12:12
Surprised? Not really. Hinch doesn't trust his relievers. He needs to, but he doesn't.
Damon Berryhill
12:12
Would the Marlins trade Stanton to the Cubs for Schwarber, Addison Russell and minor leaguers?
Dave Cameron
12:13
Of course they would, because Stanton and his full contract has very limited trade value.
The Cubs wouldn't even think of doing that.

Dave, to the point of your post this morning, could part of taking fastballs down the center be a function of changing sequencing by Kershaw? I don’t have any information one way or another but just a thought.
Dave Cameron
12:14
Could be. We're not that close to understanding how pitch sequencing affects hitters.
Julio
12:14
Chris Taylor, Justin Turner, Kike Hernandez. How do the Dodgers find guys like this?
Dave Cameron
12:15
By not dismissing minor league performances.
For all the "Chris Taylor came out of nowhere!" talk, he hit at nearly every level of the minors.

Don’t you hate it when you know you are about to ask a stupid question, but you honestly don’t know in which direction it is stupid? So yeah, here goes: Is 2 years of Dellin Betances worth more than 6 years of Ian Happ? And is it even close (one way or the other)?
Dave Cameron
12:16
It's not close. 2 years of Betances wouldn't even be worth 2 years of Happ, much less 6.

Gut feeling. Where is Harper playing in 2019?
Dave Cameron
12:17
Yankee Stadium.

Turner's homerun is a flyball out 70% of the time.  Conditions were just right that it kept carrying on a warm night.  But both Keuchel and Turner new the ball was carrying better night.  Still, it feels like Keuchel played the right odds and just lost anyway.  Your thoughts?
Dave Cameron
12:18
He had made Turner look silly on pitches up at the top of the zone the first two at-bats.
Turner adjusted.

Kershaw Only threw 80+ pitches.  Does he come back for game 4?
Dave Cameron
12:19
Nah. They don't need to push him.,

Justin Verlander: Best player in the world series?
Dave Cameron
12:20
Yes, if Kershaw, Seager, Correa, Altuve, and Turner all got suspended since you submitted this question.
