Ed Bouchette

Good afternoon, let's begin

Is Martavis Bryant the next Blount case?
Ed Bouchette
1:58
No, because he at least has his head in the game and has not walked out on his teammates and by all accounts, has practiced hard.

How is the relationship between Ben and Martavis these days? Did they ever workout the off season tiff?  Haven't seen Ben look his way like he used to. When Ben likes you as his guy, he usually will say good things about you to the media even when you're not playing great. Haven't heard much support for MB. Regardless of game plans, MB is done in Pittsburgh if Ben is not in his corner. Has Martavis lost his QB? Or has MB's demise being over exaggerated?
Ed Bouchette

I don't think there's a problem with their relationship but for whatever reason Bryant's frustration is not cooling down and that could affect it if it continues I would think.

I have read about Goodell's contract extension pending.  Could you please explain why in the name of God the owners think that guy is doing a good job?
Ed Bouchette
2:00
I cannot.
Jim
2:00
The Nationals fire Dusty Baker after he wins 2 division titles because that wasn't good enough.  The Cubs fire their pitching coach after a WS win and a division title because that wasn't good enough.  Does this speak volumes to you about the state of the Pirates and their future?
Ed Bouchette
2:00
No, it speaks volumes to me that the Nationals, for one, are stupid. I cannot account for pitching coaches' jobs.

What do you think will ultimately happen with Bryant?  Benched?  Inactive?  Get his act together and start producing?  Released and out of football?
Ed Bouchette
2:02
Well, he won't be released or traded and I don't think he'll be benched, although that does remain the most logical possibility if they plan to do something. Other than that,  he'll keep playing. He actually had more snaps Sunday vs. Bengals than JuJu

Ed, Does Antonio's heart still lie in returning punts? I guess the Steelers have no other options, but the punt return game is "below the line".
Ed Bouchette
2:02
The Steelers return game has been below the line for quite some time. I think AB likes returning punts but it's been awhile since he's been dangerous returning them.

Hi Ed - has Bryant become a cancer whose productivity is not worth his detrimental attitude?
Ed Bouchette
2:03
His teammates and coaches say he's not, that he works hard. Mike Tomlin said today he had a "great week" of practice last week and I can concur with that after watching them.
JerseySteel
2:03
Hi Ed - why run the ball with 11 seconds on the clock on 2nd down and only one timeout left? Seems like a high risk that you only get one play instead of two and not well thought out.
Ed Bouchette
2:04
I'm with you, but Mike Tomlin said he did call time out and they did not give it to him quickly
Brad

The Steelers biggest weakness is converting in the Red zone. Any thoughts or solutions?
Ed Bouchette
2:04
Maybe they could use a fullback in there when they are inside the 5 and Martavis Bryant more. I do believe they are over-thinking things down there.
Brad
2:04
Do you think Watt is up for Defensive Roookie of the Year?
Ed Bouchette
2:06
I haven't looked that closely at what other defensive rookies are doing. Kid in Buffalo is doing well, White, Lawson in Cincy. Myles Garrett in Cleveland. But Watt is holding his own with 4 sacks and an interception.

Ed, with the Steelers finally pulling it together into high gear, are we seeing just the start of this teams sky high potential moving forward? What adjustments could be made along with third down conversions?
Ed Bouchette
2:08
They could be but there's always the possibility of a Jaguars- or Bears-like relapse. They need to score more touchdowns. They have not scored 30 in a game yet

Ed shouldn't Haley/Ben be able to find a way to get Martavis the ball downfield?
Ed Bouchette
2:08
They tried on Sunday and he did not run the route properly. In Chicago, he gave up on the first play of the game, a deep pass that flicked off his fingertips.
Brad
2:08
Bell is on pace to receive the 2nd most touches in NFL history. Why not Run Connor/Watson a few more times?
Ed Bouchette
2:09
MT has always gone with his No. 1 runner most of the way, but I'm with you. Also, they remember that Conner missed a blitz pickup vs. Jaguars that cost a pick-six.

Any injury report updates? Sutton?
Ed Bouchette
2:11
No mention of Sutton. He's on PUP and eligible to practice but I think they want to wait because they would have only 2 weeks to decide whether to put him on the 53 or put  him on IR the rest of the season. They don't need him on the 53 right now. JuJu is the new one: In concussion protocol. Vance McDonald's knee injury is only a bruise, although his availability this week is iffy. MT said he is optimistic about Gilbert and Tuitt

Vance McDonald or Jesse James rest of season? What's the general outlook?
Ed Bouchette
2:11
Both
Jonathan
2:11
Ed, how do you see Sutton fitting into this Defensive group once he's available?
Ed Bouchette
2:12
I don't right now.
NJ TK
2:12
Any insight into Jesse James and Danny Smith arguement?
Ed Bouchette
2:12
Big deal being made about nothing
SteelerAl
2:12
Has anyone questioned Martavius about JuJu's missing bike?
Ed Bouchette
2:13
I think Kaboly's on it.
Bob
2:13
From your vantage point have there been times when Bryant was open and Ben didn't throw to him?
Ed Bouchette
2:13
That always happens. What if 3 receivers are open and he throws to one, do the other 2 complain? He was open deep in game vs. Baltimore and Ben did not throw it to him, that's the one I remember most.
Neal
2:14
Should steelers consider taking a delay of game on 3rd and 1 to make the yardage more manageable?
