The NFL has not yet cleared Martavis for the regular season but I suspect they will.

Who are some of the most genuine nice guys you have covered ? (Moats, Cockrell, Dawson?)
Ed Bouchette
2:18
Yes, those are 3 and there are too many others to mention.
Carla Ellenberger

What current defensive player on the Steelers has the best shot at making the Hall of Fame some day.   Also, have you ever lived in a house previously owned by a hall of famer?  I do.  How cool is that?
Ed Bouchette
2:20
Ben Roethlisberger to the first question. And, yes, I have to the second.

IF Revis were willing to play for $1-2M would the Steelers be willing to kick the tires and see if the Jets dysfunction junction season had the same effect on him it seemed to have on the rest of their roster last year? Even an average man cover corner would be better than some of what we are looking at outside of Burns...
Ed Bouchette
2:21
I think Revis' career is finished. With the needs at CB in the NFL, the fact he is not with a team tells me that.

Ed, What 1st and 2nd year player do you expect will have the biggest impact?  Thanks.
Ed Bouchette

T.J. Walton and JuJu

Brian Allen has been talked about as a project with a lot of upside. Do you think they would be able to sneak him to the PS or would a team not in contention this year likely grab him?
Ed Bouchette
2:22
It's always a gamble but it usually does not happen that another team picks up a player the Steelers cut on the final 53.

What is the reasoning of giving players until November to sign their franchise tender? Seems odd that they would be allowed to sign it after half the season is over. If a player waited that long, would it be prorated to the number of games he would play?
Ed Bouchette
2:23
Every regular-season game a player on the franchise tag misses, it costs him 1-17th of his salary. Once he would miss 10 games, he no longer can play in that season. I'm not sure that is overly liberal toward the player.

What's the inside scoop on Mike Mitchell's injury?
Ed Bouchette
2:24
I believe it's a hamstring.

Ed:  When a UDFA signs, goes thru summer camp, and the preseason games, then gets cut, how much money has he earned ?
Ed Bouchette
2:24
Whatever bonus they paid him to sign, which is not much, plus the weekly pay all of them get for training camp.
2:25
And that is not much

Should we trust Joey Porter's statement about TJ Watt being a full-time starter? I recall him saying very similar things about Jarvis Jones in years past...
Ed Bouchette
2:26
And he was right about Jarvis until they no longer could go with him. I'm guessing Joey did not say that as merely his opinion, but that is the plan devised by the coaches. Other coaches, including Mike Tomlin, just were not willing to say it publicly.

Hi, iss there any rule that limits how much a player can earn for games played? I mean if you have a player earning 16 million, can you structure it a way if he plays half games he only gets paid 8 millions? Thanks
Ed Bouchette
2:28
If that $16 M is not guaranteed, he would not make all of it if he were cut at some point. If he is on the roster, guaranteed money or not, he makes what is called for in his contract whether he plays or not. You can always structure a deal that includes incentive for playing time and other performance statistics.

Bell hasn't reported, Conner is injured, and Fitz Touissant/Knile Davis both suck...should we be worried about this RB group?
Ed Bouchette
2:29
You can worry if Bell somehow does not arrive.
Taz

The Tomlin/Colbert duo has frequently been good for a FA pickup before the season, following leaguewide roster trimming.  What position is the most likely target for such an acquisition this year?
Ed Bouchette
2:29
Cornerback.

Considering Hamilton, Ayers, Hunter, Coates and DHB...are you getting a sense of which ones have the inside track on the 5th and 6th receiver spots? Or still too early?
Ed Bouchette
2:30
I think it is among Hunter, Coates and DHB before the other two.

If another team makes a claim on a practice squad player, does the current team have an opportunity to keep him by putting him on the active roster or is he just gone?
Ed Bouchette
2:31
It is up to the player on the practice squad. He can sign with whomever wants him to sign. Often, the practice players will tell the team when another wants to sign him, giving their current team the opportunity to do so instead.
Taz
2:32
Colbert/Tomlin making public statements just for show/team unity?  I can't imagine anyone is all that upset by his absence for week 2 of the preseason, particularly considering he does not have an active contract (unsigned franchise tender still pending).  No injury liability for Bell; no $12M liability for the Steelers, pending injury.
Ed Bouchette
2:32
I believe both men must say it but do not believe it strongly.
Rick
2:33
Will Ben, AB and Matavius start this Sunday?
Ed Bouchette
2:33
I think Ben said he would not play. No need for AB. Martavis must play; he's missed a whole season.
Ryno
2:33
Who do you see getting the bulk of the pre-season game reps at QB once Jones is healthy again?
Ed Bouchette
2:33
Jones

Hi Ed - any significant injury updates today?  Thanks.
Ed Bouchette
2:34
Today is the players' day off. No updates. As you can see, it is not a day off for me. However, we have come to the end of our weekly chat. See you next Tuesday.
