Good afternoon, let's begin our final exhibition chat

Ed,  Some writers are raving about K.Davis' showing on Sat.  What did you think of Watson's showing?
Ed Bouchette
1:59
I think they should keep Watson. I will write about him this week.

Ed, What do you think of ordering kick runners to stay in the end zone. We seldom reach the 20 and they will give you the 25. Plus no possibility of penalty or injury. Conversley, why not a high kick to the 5 yard line?
Ed Bouchette
2:00
All very good questions. Anything seems better than watching a Steelers kick returner try to get to the 20.

The running back competition has become pretty interesting...I know the coaches like both Toussaint and Davis, but I don't see how they can let Watson go...your thoughts?
Ed Bouchette
2:01
My thought exactly. I don't see how they can let Watson go.

Should I be more worried about the secondary than I am?  Currently, I remember the last couple years we have looked awful in the preseason, then slowly made progress through the year until we could be satisfied with the secondary (based on the talent).
Ed Bouchette
2:01
You should be worried.
Very very worried
2:02
Maybe the tight end they just acquired in trade can play cornerback too

Hi Ed - any update on Mike Mitchell's health/status? Will he be ready for Week 1?
Ed Bouchette
2:03
I can't tell you. I haven't seen him on the field even in practice since that early day in pads at camp. He has a hamstring injury. Odds on who plays first, him or Polanco?
JerseySteel
2:03
Who wins the last OL back up spot - Feiler or Hawkins?
Ed Bouchette
2:03
Feiler if they go on performance
Adam

Are you concerned about RB depth?  If Bell goes down, is Connor et all good enough to carry the load?
Ed Bouchette
2:04
Conner is no Bell, but I think he could get the job done they need to get done in that offense.
JerseySteel
2:04
Does Watson, Davis, or Touissant win the 3rd string RB role?
Ed Bouchette
2:05
Question of the week. I'd go with Watson but I have no idea what they will do.
Adam
2:05
Are you concerned about the line play so far this preseason?  They seem to be struggling with edge rushers.
Ed Bouchette
2:05
I leave the concerns up to you guys, but if I were you, no I would not be concerned

Ed, love your work. I dont want to panic in preseason but do you see this group of dbs improving as the season goes on.
Ed Bouchette
2:06
Cam Sutton, Artie Burns and Sean Davis are young and have a lot of room to  grow and improve. Mike Hilton too.
Adam
2:06
Who will play most in the Carolina game?  Who does Tomlin want to see more of.
Ed Bouchette
2:06
No stars, that's for sure.

Ed,  I know it's only preseason and experimentation reigns.  But tell me specifically who made the call for a pass when the Steelers where first and goal on the Colts one yard line.  Was it Haley or the QB or someone else?   Missed an easy score especially when the runners were doing so well.
Ed Bouchette
2:08
I believe the QB was given run-pass option and he called pass.  For an exhibition game, you might as well try it. It also might give defenses something to think about. Plus, you got a look at how JuJu should NOT have played that ball.

I liked L. Jones play last  Saturday. Showed great pocket action, confidence and NFL ability. Your take?
Ed Bouchette
2:08
The same. He's grown a lot.

Hi Ed...I'm puzzled by the team's reluctance or inability to sign an above-average (not a pro-bowler) cornerback to play opposite Burns. This seems to be an obvious need and it hasn't been addressed successfully via free agency, though there have been efforts made in the draft. Has this been a mistake in your view?
Ed Bouchette
2:08
Yes.
Scott in Amsterdam
2:09
Haley has been known for being confrontational on the sidelines....is this why Ben prefers him in the press box?
Ed Bouchette
2:09
This has nothing to do with any kind of emotional sideline stuff.
Scott in Amsterdam

You said back in March that you "don't get" why the Steelers were interested in Donta Hightower....have you changed your mind yet? This defense will be in trouble if the injury-prone Shazier goes down!
Ed Bouchette
2:10
Has Hightower played this preseason yet?
Steven
2:10
Ed, What did the scouting department see in Dobbs, who looks like another running non-pocket  passing QB?
Ed Bouchette
2:10
Give him more than a few preseason games.

Are you surprised they traded for TE now, after not drafting or addressing in FA? Who is the odd man out? Who fell out of favor? To me it seems they can only keep 3.
Ed Bouchette
2:12
I believe they thought Jesse James would improve more. It's not too later for a five-year vet to pick up enough to play early.

How well did TJ Watt play in the last two exhibition games?
