Beane mentioned that people scratched their head at trading some guys away one year and then they signed Cespedes and did some other stuff and were good. Maybe the Lawrie deal was to clear up cash for a Maeda type thing. But don't expect the payroll to go over 85-90. He specifically said that every time they've ever spent more than they had, it went terribly and it was a hole they had to dig out from under.

Lawrie got sold for a 2016 reliever and a guy Kantrovitz wanted to draft. It's been all but confirmed Lawrie (and Butler, who DIDN'T USE THE WEIGHT ROOM IN 2015) were the clubhouse problems.

Nah. A) I saw Billy in the weight room every time I was in the clubhouse, although mostly on the bike trying to stay slimmer. B) Not everyone loved Lawrie, but he wasn't the problem. If there was a problem, it was that nobody knew each other and the team was bad.
