Heading up to Truckee today to beat the blizzard tomorrow looks like it's gonna be a (very) white christmas.

Kids haven't seen snow yet. Have to remedy that.

I visited Belgium expecting good beer on tap everywhere. This is decidedly not the case.

But if you go to the breweries you want, you get world class stuff!

Pedroia just posted a 5 WAR season in 2016, can he do that again in his career?
Eno Sarris
1:11
No, injuries.

I just bought a dozen left shoes on Craigslist. Call me if you're interested.

How will teams legally incentivize international prospects to join their team other than $$$? Is it just down to player's personal team prefrences, regional/weather preferences and the courting process of clubs? Is there any other tangible benefits that can be used to lure prospects? It seems like prospects will have little reason to choose between teams in the future.
Eno Sarris

Sometimes you can talk about who's blocking them at the big leagues, but that shouldn't really effect them. Here's one I know actually matters: what kind of training do they allow? Pitchers care if they can continue their own training or if the team is super prescriptive about what they can do.

Did you see that tweet that Bartolo pitched opening day for Turner Field? And now he's going to be the opening day starter (I think?) for the new stadium. Homeboy outlasted an entire stadium!

Gotta love him despite, well, you know.

What would you do if u were atkins/shapiro

Got a window still. Buy the slugger that comes on the shortest contract that's still out there and can hopefully play the OF.

When watching a player you haven't seen much of, how do you know what you're seeing is real? How do you know it's not a career day? Or the worst game they've had in months?
Eno Sarris
1:14
Gotta watch him again.

Where do you personally draw the line on pouring/not pouring a beer? If you're at home do you always pour? I'm not *too* ashamed to admit I've sapped more than a few Plinys straight out of the bottle.
Eno Sarris
1:15
I always pour. Sorry, call me a snob, but I'm not looking down on your practices. I just like my pint glass too much.

So Trea Turner appears to be a very good fantasy player. People ranking him in the top 20 for next yr: too high, or just right?
Eno Sarris
1:15
They right.

Are we going to get something like spin rate for bat speed? Seems way easier to measure than spin rate.
Eno Sarris
1:15
True bat speed would be great. I haven't seen it in the metrics that I've seen that aren't out there yet, though.

Do you think at some point the market rate for $/win will eventually slow down, plateau,or (hopefully) reverse? I don't want to see a back end starter worth $16 mil+ a year.
Eno Sarris
1:16
Probably will coincide with something happening to TV contracts and the cable industry.

What is a Brett Sour IPA. Had my firsts
Eno Sarris

Basically a hoppy sour. Shady Oak makes a bunch that are really great, I bet you had that because I think you're out here.

Have you read Jesse Spektor's article about player and coach skepticism of defensive data? It is very good. It was striking me that the players and coaches seem to put more stock in more directly quantifiable data like speed or precision of route running rather that are components of fielding skill rather than UZR or DRS which try and measure skill itself. To me this seems like a pretty reasonable perspective, and isn't really all that different from looking at components of pitching like SwStr% or spin rates rather than ERA or FIP which summarize the outcome of those pitches.
Eno Sarris
1:18
Haven't read yet, but if that's a reasonable summary of it, yeah it sounds about right. Players I've talked to love some of the Statcast data while not loving WAR. "Who hit it further? Who hit it harder?" is the stuff of clubhouse conversations, and now they've got measuring sticks.
Mark

I may have misspelled Spektor (Spector?)
Eno Sarris

Yes Jesse is a Spector.

Can you tell NY sports radio that Gsellman+Wheeler+Bruce =/= McCutchen?
Eno Sarris
1:19
I think Mad Dog was talking that and butchered Gsellman's name, which, I can't say much about that.
