Gerry: Tomlin has taken a lot of well deserved criticism even from the national media.  My question is this.  What five year period had worse coaching?  The 5 years after Ben's injury (2020-2024) have four playoff appearances despite playing in a division with Burrow and Lamar.  But from 2014-2018 Tomlin had a top 10-15 of all time QB and WR, a top 3-4 RB of the era, and a good offensive line, but made it to only one blowout loss conference championship game.  Sure he had injuries, but he could have managed to keep L Blount in 2014 or come up with a better strategy than calling Sean Spence off the couch to replace Shazier.  The 2018 team beat the eventual champs and outplayed the best team in the NFC, but literally gave away games in Cleveland, Oakland, and Denver on strange coaching decisions.   I think that era was more of a failure.  Your take?
Gerry Dulac
9:53
My take is not nearly as long as yours. That was some pretty good research.

Hey Gerry good morning.   In your opinion, do you believe Mike Tomlin does not hire top-notch coordinators/assistant coaches, for fear of them being his near future replacement?
Gerry Dulac
9:54
Tim, I don't think that's the reason.

Gerry I truly enjoy your chats weekly. I’m not surprised by what happened against the Ravens given the past month. Idk if other fans feel this same way but I feel like I’ve been gaslight the last 5 games. We’re being told schemes, playcalling, etc are changing and “no stones left unturned” and then we get into the game and it feels like nothing changes. Help me understand so I don’t go insane all offseason
Gerry Dulac
9:56
Hey Tone, I bet the schemes and play-calling probably did change, and stones were overturned, so what does that leave? Let's play Wheel of Fortune ..... T____t

Did Tomlin discuss why he didn't go for it on 4th and 1/2 yard in 1st Qtr?  Already down 7-0, it seemed like a first down there would provide a little bit of momentum.  Instead, Baltimore drives straight down the field for a second score.
Gerry Dulac
10:00
He was asked about it after the game and he gave some short answer about the time of the game and deciding to kick. Effectively, didn't trust his offense to get a couple feet

Thanks Gerry for all the great work during this season. Objectively, is there any hope to have a successful, playoff game winner team in the next 2 years or we will continue struggling ?
Gerry Dulac
10:02
Of course there is. Look, this is not a downtrodden team. They've been in the playoffs the ;past two years and four of the past five. It's not like they're the Browns. They just need to do something -- actually, quite a few things -- to get on track in the postseason. I wouldn't be clearing any room for Super Bowl trophies anytime soon, tho.

Serious Question: is there anyone on this roster or coaching staff that honestly is willing to keep players (George Pickens) accountable for stuff like being late? I’m honestly glad the George Pickens stuff is leaking to the media as it will bring attention to it. I like him but he truly needs to be held accountable as a professional.
Gerry Dulac
10:03
Let me tell you, George Pickens being late -- or any other misstep -- is not exactly news. It's just another deck chair on the Queen Mary.

Can we please dispense with the notion that the Steelers will trade Tomlin?
Gerry Dulac
10:06
That's even less likely than the Steelers firing Tomlin. You have a better chance of being Steelers coach than a trade happening. The person who started that one -- and the people who blindly followed the notion and thought it possible -- is just another example of people believing something just because someone said it

Our Steelers sure do seem stuck, as in the seventies minus the great success.  What might the previous coaches and owner do to improve our position as an organization to seek our ultimate goal?
Gerry Dulac
10:06
Uh...???

Is there any doubt that Ogunjobi needs to go and that defensive line is the Steelers #1 need?
Gerry Dulac
10:10
The DLine has been their biggest need the past two years. If you want to know how Derrick Henry goes off for 162 and 186 in a matter of three weeks, look no further. Anyone who has paid attention has heard me say this since they drafted Kenny Pickett.  Four of their six DL will be 30 or older next year....if there is a next year for three of 'em

10:10
What are your thoughts about trading Pickens?  Should they do it and what could they get for him?
Gerry Dulac
10:10
It's not a question of should....

Hey Gerry.  TJ, Watt and Freiermuth both came out in support of Mike Tomlin again at the end of the season. Yet both are yearning to finally win a playoff game. What reason do you believe they continue to publicly support this head coach who hasn’t won a playoff game in eight years??
Gerry Dulac
10:11
What do you want them to do?? Not saying they don't believe what they are saying, but they're going to come out and rip the coach and suggest getting rid of him

What are the Steelers needs in order in your opinion?

Thanks so much for your chats. I believe it is time for MT to hire young, good offensive and defensive coordinators and ALLOW them to do their jobs with his input but let them coach! I believe that as good as he is, the schemes he dictates have run their course. Do you agree?
Gerry Dulac
10:13
What was that you said ...allow them to do their jobs??

Is the subpar play of our offensive tackles and less than prime time set of wide receivers not getting enough attention for the reason Russ struggled down the stretch?  I think Brady would have found it difficult to be successful in that environment.
Gerry Dulac
10:14
Gee, you think so??

Good morning Gerry, I’m disappointed in the Steelers leadership or lack there of. I’m really not sure what AJR thinks is going to change just doing the same things over and over. Coach T has his hands in everything as the head coach & everyone knows he runs his defense. Where do the Steelers go from here? What’s really is going to change?
Gerry Dulac
10:15
Tom, until I see something change in the postseason, I am not going to sit here and say it will.

Gerry: For all of the bad picks late in the Colbert era, Kevin did have a knack for finding WR talent.  After signing Jefferson and Allen Robinson and drafting Roman Wilson, should we be worried that Omar didn't learn this aspect of personnel?
Gerry Dulac
10:16
You can't put Roman Wilson in there. The guy got hurt. Let's see what happens

Curious how many years McVay has been a head coach and how many of his assistants have been promoted. (Not to mention lose future HOFer Donald and reload). I ask the same question of MT ?

Klemm leaves mid-season. Concentrated effort to build the OL to slow if any development by Meyer. What is your takeaway?
Gerry Dulac
10:17
My takeaway is people have already forgotten how Pat Meyer took a bunch of mid- to low draft choices and free agents and turned the Oline into the most improved unit the two previous years.

Thanks for all the coverage this season.  I have heard some chatter that Teryl Austin might be let go.  The defense certainly looked bad down the stretch, but this is Tomlin’s defense, no?  Logic seems to go out the window if you fire the DC but keep Tomlin.  The only scenario I can imagine in which that makes any sense is if the Steelers bring in a new DC who actually runs the defense.  If not, it just seems weird that all Steelers coaches - except Tomlin - appear to face a higher level of accountability for poor results.
Gerry Dulac
10:18
This is Tomlin's defense, yes.
