That's a tough call. I think any one of the other backups would be fine. I wouldn't be surprised if they kept either Davis, Watson, Toussaint or Williams. I'm not sure I remember a year where they had so many candidates at backup RB where, no matter who you picked, they'd be fine. I think it will be Davis, tho.

Re: Haden price tag.  Presuming no team is going to beat the man's previous contract ($11M/yr) as evidenced by unwillingness to trade, couldn't he be signed at a pretty modest price, with the Browns making up the rest in offset language?
Gerry Dulac
11:02
Yes thats true.

Going into the final preseason game, are there any players in jeopardy of losing their starting spot?
Gerry Dulac
11:02
Only Ross Cockrell.

Should we deal with the reality that any help the secondary is going to get at CB this year is coming from a healthy Sutton?
Gerry Dulac
11:03
Yes, and maybe Sensabaugh. Sutton, though, would be the biggest upgrade potentially
Souprnaut

Hi Gerry. Lots of people have compared expectations for Sutton to those of Burns from last year. I think with his "above the neck" aptitude it may be reasonable to expect Sutton to contribute in at least half the time it took Burns. Thoughts?
Gerry Dulac
11:05
I don't know that "expectations" is the right word. I think the comparison comes more from the fact Sutton, like Burns in 2016, missed a lot of training camp with injury. And Burns eventually became the nickel back early in the regular season and then the starter in Week 8. I think it's reasonable to see Sutton follow a similar path. Certainly that is their hope.

Senquez Golson might be the unluckiest guy due to injuries to put his talent into use, thoughts?
Gerry Dulac
11:06
Yes he is. I feel sorry for the guy. Never injured in college and now this. It's not his fault. And it's unlucky for the Steelers, too, who were counting on him when they drafted him to upgrade their secondary

Has OL Hawkins looked better in games 2-3, after looking really bad in game 1?  thanks
Gerry Dulac
11:06
He has looked better. I think he makes the roster as 8th OL

Alot of smoke and mirrors will be tossed out on Haden, but isn't Cle on the hook for 4 million so steelers sign him on a 1 year for 6..they really only pay 2 mil..is that correct?
Gerry Dulac
11:07
I'm not sure of his exact contract status

11:07
From what you have seen in training camp do you believe Sammie Coates has regained the form he showed early last season or are his fingers and ability to hold on to the ball still a major concern ?
Gerry Dulac
11:08
I have not seen that form, but I don't think the fingers have anything to do with it. They are fine.
Dude_From_Cali
11:08
Do you think Lis-Franc foot injury ruined any chance Senquez Golson might'vd had, thought?
Gerry Dulac
11:08
Yeah, that and being out of football for two years. Never played an NFL game, never practiced in pads other than 2 days.

4TEs, 4RBs+FB, 6WRs.... at some point, even if more special teamers come from O, the harsh reality of roster limits is going to hit this offense.  Who misses the cut that's otherwise done enough to make the team?
Gerry Dulac
11:09
I don't think there will be four RBs.
Sush

Steelers have been aggressive trying to get CB help, but only for  cheap, mid-tier CBs. Joe H won't be cheap, but can he still play at high level?
Gerry Dulac
11:09
That's kind of the gamble they took on Justin Gilbert, who had a similar, if not greater, skill set than Haden. How that turn out?

11:09
Gerry, love your writing style, a bit less formal than your comrades, I enjoy it. Thank you.

If Golson doesn't get on the field on Thursday is it a safe assumption he gets cut?
Gerry Dulac
11:10
Really safe.

Watt made a big splash in the first preseason game, but hasn't been as noticeable in the last two games.  Are they still planning to start him ahead of Harrison?
Gerry Dulac
11:11
Yes they are, and rightfully so. I think they have been asking to do other things -- run support, drop into coverage -- to get him acclimated to that and see how he responds.
Dude_From_Cali
11:11
Jesse James missing that key block led to BB strip sack prompted the Vance trade?
Gerry Dulac
11:11
No.

Is Mitchell going to be able to go opening weekend, if not what do they do?  None of the backups really give you a lot to have faith in?
Gerry Dulac
11:12
At this point, I'm not sure. They won't through this a couple years ago when Mitchell missed the entire preseason and had trouble assimilating with the other DBs once the regular season started. That's their concern this time, too. He has a pretty nasty hamstring tear.

I know Joe Haden will be a popular topic, but in all seriousness for a team that has had problems developing and getting good CB play is he not somewhat of a no-brainer upgrade over Cockrell and Gay?
Gerry Dulac
11:12
He is, but there's more to it than that.
AD
11:12
Million dollar question: do you think steelers take a legit run at haden? If so how do you like fit?
Gerry Dulac
11:13
Remember, Haden got cut, so other teams will have a chance to sign him before Steelers.
Sush
11:13
Will the Steelers keep Senquez on practice squad? Injuries not his fault, but Coach T seems quite annoyed by him (or questions about him).
Gerry Dulac
11:13
I would think not. There is no reason to do so because they have no evaluation of him at this point.

Is this the year that Gilbert finally makes All Pro, after getting passed the past few years?
