OK lets get our chat started...

Can you confirm that the Steelers offered Demarcus Ayers a spot on the practice squad and he turned it down? If so, I wonder why...
Gerry Dulac
11:04
I cannot

Is Cobi Hamilton no longer eligible for the practice squad? Seems like the Steelers would want to keep a veteran who has made some plays around (like they did with Fitz Touissant).
Gerry Dulac
11:04
I think they feel they have plenty of tall receivers

With the trades being done, how close are the Steelers and Tuitt to a extension of his rookie contract?
Gerry Dulac
11:04
Very close. Should be any day now

Hi Gerry!  It's common to be optimistic at the start of a season, but can you remember an offseason where so many of the questions going in had answers coming out? (CB, OLB, TE, etc)
Gerry Dulac
11:05
That's a good point, and no I cannot. I think they had did a great job of addressing their weaknesses and doing it with proven players who are still young, i.e., Haden, McDonald.

Heard a rumor that Brian Allen made the team because the Steelers were aware of other teams looking to sign him...can you confirm?
Gerry Dulac
11:06
You're listening to a lot of rumors

The Steelers are in an unusual situation with the 2 week exemption for Bell. I'm sure that all 31 teams will be watching to see who the Steelers release when Bell is activated. Do you think that they will approach the release strategically in order to try not to lose a player that they initially had on their roster whether it be who they release, IR, or some other tactic?
Gerry Dulac
11:08
Not especially. My guess is they will cut Steven Johnson

If a top tier QB is available when the Steelers pick in the 2018 draft, do you feel they'll pick him?
Gerry Dulac
11:09
The Steelers will start looking soon in earnest for a quarterback who can be their future starter.  It might be 2018

11:09
Do you feel 2018 will be Bell's last year in Pittsburgh?
Gerry Dulac
11:09
No

Hi Gerry, thank you for your keen insight in these chats. With Haden on the team, will he supplant Burns as our #1 corner and cover the opponent's best receiver or will each just play their side of the field?
Gerry Dulac
11:10
No. They will stay on their side of the field -- Haden left, Burns right.

Mitchell out for Sunday?
Gerry Dulac
11:10
My guess is yes
AZ Steeler
11:10
Hi Gerry, what's your over/under on team sacks this year and who do you believe will lead the team?
Gerry Dulac
11:10
I think it will be Cam Heyward again and over/under is 38

Why was Steven Johnson brought back? Mainly for special teams? Or do the Steelers view him as a legit backup at middle linebacker?
Gerry Dulac
11:11
Maybe so he can be cut again

Hi Gerry do you actually see this secondary being able to stop new England with gronk/ cooks and brady I sure hope so and do u think this is how the Steelers will be going forward active in the off-season via trades and big free agent pick ups thank u for your chats
Gerry Dulac
11:12
I don't think all their trades are a portent of things to come. I think this was a unique circumstance. But I do believe it points up their willingness to engage in such activity when they sense an opportunity. And that's good.
11:14
One more thing, I do believe they can be effective w NE/Brady, but only if they can get pressure on him. If they don't, the same thing will happen.

More carries on Sunday, Conner or Watson?
Gerry Dulac
11:14
Conner. And he won't get many, unless its a blowout. I'm not sure Watson will get much, if any

Does A.B. Have a chance at 2,000 yards this season with martavis back to help take some of the coverage off of Antonio
Gerry Dulac
11:15
No, I don't think so. That's a lot of yardage and the Steelers do a good job of spreading the ball, especially when you have Bell and Bryant
AZ Steeler
11:15
Hi Gerry, with or without a SB victory this season, I have a hunch this is Ben's last year. What do you think?
Gerry Dulac
11:15
I might be inclined to think so if they won the Super Bowl
Dehumanizer
11:16
With what Tomlin said this week about limiting Bells playing time because he was not with the team during the pre-season. Do you think he will actually do this or is it just a ploy to get the Browns to prepare for him and Conner this week?
Gerry Dulac
11:16
I don't think the Browns are preparing their defense for James Conner. I think they are preparing for 26.
Scott in Amsterdam

Is it fair to assume that the urgency we are seeing from the Steelers (in terms of all the trades and acquisitions) is mainly driven by the feeling that neither Ben nor Le'Veon will be back with the team after this season?
Gerry Dulac
11:17
Not at all. It's driven by their desire to win. It's driven by an awareness that they're pretty good all the way around but needed some help in two areas -- CB and TE.
Matt
11:17
Gerry, if the signing of Haden means Steelers can only sign 2 out of these 3, which would you keep? Tuitt,Shazier,Dupree.
Gerry Dulac
11:19
They will try to keep all 3, and probably will. Unless 48 doesnt pan out
