Get those questions in now and we'll get things underway in about 80 minutes!

What do you think Drummond's trade value is (to which teams)?

He's too valuable to be a buy-out candidate, but his salary limits the trade market.
Luke Adams
12:02
Agreed. If he was making $10-15MM, he'd be one of the hottest trade candidates on the market. As is, I have a hard time seeing how the Cavs will get anything more than what they paid for him last year (expiring contracts and a second-round pick).
12:03
A year ago, the Cavs had the ability to match his salary using two unwanted expiring contracts (Brandon Knight and John Henson). There aren't many teams out there right now who could match salary that easily with expendable money, so I think it'll be really tough to find a deal that makes sense for both Cleveland and a trade partner.

With Detroit acquiring Charlotte's 2nd rounder (from NYK), how do you see CHA finishing the season? Playoffs or lottery?
Luke Adams
12:04
I see them in the 7-10 range in the East, so I'd expect that pick to end up in the early-to-mid 40s.

Can the Mavs acquire Hassan Whiteside from the Kings for a future second round pick, they seriously need help in rebounding and rim protection. He is making the veteran's minimum salary, so should not take much to acquire him. If the second round pick is not enough, can they add Boban to the deal? Your thoughts?
Luke Adams
12:07
I doubt the Kings would hang onto Whiteside too tightly, considering he's a minimum-salary guy who isn't playing too significant a role right now. Still, if they're close to Dallas in the standings, they won't just give him away for nothing to a playoff competitor. I expect they'd ask for at least a couple second-rounders or try to get the Mavs to take on another contract like Bjelica's or Parker's.

How do Celtics complete a move at the TD that makes them better when anyone with real value can't afford to be given up? Or are they really just one roleplayer away from competing with the best of the league?
Luke Adams
12:11
The $28MM+ trade exception should give them plenty of options. It won't accommodate the really high-salary guys (ie. Drummond or, if he became available, Beal), but I expect there will be plenty of useful players who easily fit into that exception and could be had if Boston wants to give up its first-round pick.
12:12
Ainge typically hasn't been willing to give up first-rounders at the deadline for in-season upgrades but I don't see why he wouldn't do it this year. The pick will be in the 20s and his draft record hasn't been especially strong in recent years. A productive veteran who is under contract beyond this season or could be re-signed is certainly worth it.

Is there any chance Lonzo will end up at Bulls, and what do you think it would take to pry him from Pelicans?
Tom Emanski
12:12
What does a realistic package for Lonzo look like for the Bulls?  Does it have to include Markannen/Carter/Coby/1st, or could one of the vets (Thad? Sato?) plus one or two 2nds get it done?
Luke Adams
12:14
A few questions today about Lonzo and the Bulls. I think the price will probably be higher than fans in Chicago would like -- Ball has looked pretty good lately and New Orleans is starting to win a little more, so his value is trending up.
12:15
I can't see the Pelicans moving him without one of the assets from your first group, but maybe if his value starts trending downward again, Thad Young and some second-rounders would do it.

Is there an indication that Jrue Holiday will resign?
Luke Adams
12:17
Nothing concrete lately but we're still waiting for his extend-and-trade restrictions to expire, which will happen later this month, as noted here: https://www.hoopsrumors.com/2021/01/players-eligible-for-in-season-vet...
I'd be pretty shocked if the Bucks don't lock him up (either during the season or in the summer) after giving up what they did for him.

Who should the Celtics target for big with shooting? Bjelica or Harrison Barnes?
Luke Adams
12:19
Barnes is a more useful two-way player, especially in the postseason. But he also represents the much bigger commitment of the two. Unless you find a way to match his salary, you'd have to use nearly all of the trade exception on him, and he's under contract through 2023. I doubt he's Boston's Plan A, but they could do worse.
Chris
12:19
I heard a playoff contender was interested in Elfrid Payton-could this possibly be true?
Luke Adams
12:20
Sure, he could be useful as a backup for a team like the Hawks (as noted here: https://www.hoopsrumors.com/2021/02/hawks-notes-hunter-reddish-point-g...). I wouldn't expect to get much in return for him though.
Warriors need a Big Man
12:21
Why have the Warriors refused to Sign a Big Man with all of their Frontcourt injuries (Wiseman, Looney, Chriss, Smailagic, and Paschall ).  Small lineups only work if you have Elite shooters and Wing defenders, which they have neither.
Luke Adams
12:23
With the exception of Chriss, none of those injuries are season-ending. My best guess is the Warriors are confident they can tread water until those guys start getting healthy again and would rather do that than cut someone for a short-term replacement who will take some time to get cleared and may not ultimately help much.

What do you think the Cavs centre situation will be after deadline? Will it be Drummond/JaVale or both moved on?
Luke Adams
12:23
Would expect they'll have a much easier time finding a JaVale trade than one for Drummond.
12:24
I think the most likely scenario is trading JaVale and keeping Drummond, followed by moving on from both. Least likely scenario is that they're both still on the roster two months from now.

12:24
With reports the Bulls are looking at Lonzo, does that mean they have no intention of trade Lavine?
Luke Adams
12:25
I wouldn't completely rule it out, but I'd be pretty surprised if it happened before the deadline. The 2021 offseason seems like the sweet spot for determining whether they're all-in on LaVine or want to move on.
G
12:26
The Grizzlies need a 2 guard to pair with Morant. Do you think they try a make trade with Dieng, Winslow, etc? Maybe try for Oladipo or Lavine?
Luke Adams
12:28
Trading for a player of Oladipo's or LaVine's caliber and using someone like Dieng as the main salary-matching piece would mean giving up a pretty significant haul of draft picks. I just can't see the Grizzlies doing that at this point in their rebuilding process. They're on the rise, but I think they're still a year or two away from making a big all-in move.
12:29
I also can't see them moving Winslow at this point -- they gave up a lot to get him last year so it makes no sense to sell low when he's apparently close to finally getting healthy.

WILL DETREOIT TRADE ANYBODY ELSE
Luke Adams
12:30
You'd think a last-place team like the Pistons would be in fire sale mode at this point, but after trading Rose, they only have three players left on the roster who were acquired before the 2020 offseason -- Blake Griffin, Svi Mykhailiuk, and Sekou Doumbouya.
12:31
Griffin has negative value and it's probably too early to sell their stock in Doumbouya, but maybe Svi will end up on the block?

Beasley gets 120 days in the workhouse/home monitoring -- after the season, for 1 3/4 lb of weed and going after a family with his assault rifle. Actually, I'm surprised he got this much the way they handle sports pros with kid gloves, but at the same time, your average Joe would never get that light of a sentence for that crime. Thoughts?
Luke Adams
12:34
I think you're right on both counts -- it's more significant a penalty than I would've expected, but only because professional athletes usually get off very light for that sort of infraction. Some of the terms of the sentence were strong though, including the lifetime ban on possessing firearms. We just published the full story with more details: https://www.hoopsrumors.com/2021/02/malik-beasley-sentenced-on-violenc...

Clips gonna make a move to get backcourt help? If pg13 is out for any length of time they will need help
Hoop-L.A.
12:35
Derrick Rose to Clippers rumor didn't happen. Are you hearing of anyone else they're targeting?
Luke Adams
12:37
I don't expect the Clippers will enter the postseason with their current backcourt. It'll just be a matter of whether they can find someone they like on the trade market or if they turn to the buyout market again, like they did last year with Reggie Jackson. Given how little Jackson played in the postseason last year, I imagine they'd prefer the former.
