received a ton of emails accusing me of acting one way and not acting other, then contradictions of that. My conclusion: You're not going to please both sides. I'm comfortable with how the coverage came off in terms of news covered, intriguing stories written, etc. It's not going to satisfy everyone or align with their political views.

I'd like to see Letang-Maatta reunited as a pairing this season. What do you think? I feel like Dumoulin has had a bit of a rough start.
Jason Mackey
1:26
He has. But I think creating three solid pairings has more benefit than front-loading. If Maatta is good and you can go Letang-Maatta-Schultz on three separate pairings, that's some darn good depth.

Do you think GMJR will start negotiating with any of their pending free agents during the season?  I'd like to see them re-sign Hornqvist, if he's willing to skip free agency.
Jason Mackey
1:28
I think GMJR will try. Will he be successful? Hornqvist is going to have a really nice resume to shop around the league. He could GET PAID on his last contract. I have a tough time seeing him take less to stay here, given his career situation. He's won two Cups. Last contract. I'd expect him to want to go to free agency and cash in. I could be wrong, but those are my thoughts.

Hi Jason!  Where do you see this 3C saga headed?  Any new names to add to the list?  Sheahan isn't exactly off to the hottest start recording zero points through 6 games.
Jason Mackey
1:28
No new names. Was told pretty much quiet by a source this morning. I think we see someone come available -- maybe Sheahan if AA signs -- and Rutherford make the move. I don't sense a ton of urgency, however.

I thought players placed on IR had to be there for 7 days? Hunwick isn't listed on IR anymore per Pens website but was placed on IR I believe on Tuesday. What gives?
Jason Mackey
1:29
Don't always trust the website. A little sketchy on the IR thing myself, though. Will find out more for you after practice.

I like kegger and hes been good but i dont know if hes the guy i want in the playoffs how do you feel?
Jason Mackey
1:30
I agree with that. I think he could make a great 4C provided they get someone at the third center spot who could slide into the top-six if an injury were to occur. I think that's important.
John
1:30
Is Niemi this bad, or is it because he's only played in back to backs?
Jason Mackey
1:30
I'm honestly not sure, John. He has looked bad, but has it been because he has played in back-to-backs in front of a tired team? Could be. I think they should start him Friday and find out.
Erik
1:35
Is Sheahan the 3C pivot that this team needs? Obviously hasn't showed much bounce back given last year's awful season. I'd look elsewhere, let's say you?
Jason Mackey
1:37
I like Duchene, but it depends on the asking price. I like a lot of guys, but it depends on the asking price. Do I think Sheahan could be a fit? Yes, I do. I think the Penguins could probably do what they did with Schultz to him, and he'd be playing with Hagelin and Hornqvist. Pretty decent linemates.
John
1:37
If Niemi *is* this bad, do you see them making a move near the deadline for a backup? Or would they trust Jarry to get them through the playoffs if something happens to Murray?
Jason Mackey
1:37
If Niemi turns out to be unplayable, I think they would go with Tristan Jarry.
Todd

Thanks Jason! A follow up question to my IR question. Does hunwck's cap count against the team while on IR? (Not that it matters, but I'm under impression Pens can "bank" cap space that they're not using).
Jason Mackey
1:38
On IR, yes. On LTIR ... which I believe is 10 games/24 days, something like that, they can spend over the cap equal to what the injured player is making.
Eric
1:38
Jason, what kind of money do you think Rust will demand on his next contract?
Jason Mackey
1:39
I think the Sheary deal -- $3 million per -- would be a good starting point for him. If he continues to play as well as he has, obviously he'll exceed $3 million a year.
TK
1:39
Is it just me, or does Dumoulin ice the puck A LOT?
Jason Mackey
1:39
I haven't noticed anything more, honestly. Keep in mind, it's not always the D man's fault.
HB
1:39
espn probably the worst play for hockey information wrote an article about changing the playoff format to the number one seed get to pick their opponent is that something thats viable. here is the article http://www.espn.com/nhl/story/_/id/21051826/nhl-why-nhl-adopt-new-stan...
Jason Mackey
1:39
Do you have a question, HB?
Nikita Kucherov
1:49
Hi Jason...will I win the scoring title this year...Crosby, watch out!
Jason Mackey
1:49
I think McDavid will do it. Not because he's the best player -- I think Crosby has that title -- but because the Pacific Division stinks.
Jack
1:49
I'm a little alarmed at the number of goals given up this year and high-quality scoring chances other teams are getting against us...could it be the result of the players we lost, exhaustion, or something else?
Jason Mackey
1:50
I actually think it's stuff the Penguins are/aren't doing. It's correctable. It's not the players lost, I know that. Maybe fatigue, at least as far as the back-to-backs. But we're talking about stupid turnovers, missed coverages, etc. You can fix that.
Brian Batko
1:50
Yo, Jay, was thinking of maybe doin' a joint chat in the future...you in?
Jason Mackey
1:50
Does this involve eating tortilla chips?
Sarah
1:50
Hi Jason. Did you ever find out about what future consideration actually means in terms of trade return?
Jason Mackey
1:50
I did not. Sorry Sarah. Next week.
Tina
1:50
Will Sears go bankrupt this year?
Jason Mackey
1:50
I don't think so.
Erik
1:51
If the asking price for Duchene is Maatta/Sprong, do you do it?  Ruhwedel/Hunwick is a decent 3rd pair, but lack of depth would be evident.
Jason Mackey
1:52
I would, honestly. But as I understand it, Colorado is asking for much, much more.

Jason as talented as he is, why can’t Malkin work on his face offs skills.
Jason Mackey
1:53
He does work on them. Maybe not as much as the power play or something like that, but I do see him spend time there. Has always been kind of mystifying to me why he's not better there given his combination of size and smarts.

Coming back to Pittsburgh for the holidays - where should I get a good meal?
