Is it a problem that WAS had 8 more shots on goal than PIT in the 2nd period OR does that not matter? I know we scored 1 that period and they did not, so...
Jason Mackey
2:35
In Game 7? I don't have a problem with that at all. I thought the Penguins were terrific for the bulk of the game. I'm not going to bury them over shots on goals allowed in the second period. Plus, I can't remember more than two or three that were terribly high-quality.

Patric Rust came up huge last night. His goal in the 2nd Period was all this team needed ultimately to beat WASH. How good is Rust?
Jason Mackey
2:37
Patric Rust tortures goalies. But only in elimination games. ... Serious, I'm continually amazed at how Bryan Rust continues to do this in keys situations. It's impressive. I also don't know how to explain it. Just freaky.

Getting to root against the Senators?!?!?! This will be easy for me; I root against my Senators all the time. They are always voting for dumb laws that hurt me. Am I right?
Jason Mackey

Doh.

Some DeadHeads in my apt complex Monday were blasting this awful jam band and I went to their door and totally "harshed their mellow" in their words by asking them to turn it down. They informed me that they were celebrating the 50th anniversary of some dead show in NY and that they would not turn it down. So, long story short I complained to our landlord and now they are all giving me the stink eye in the laundry room. So, what is so significant about this DeadHead anniversary, because I actually like those guys and would like to bury the hatchet. Please explain, you are the only DeadHead I know who has any ability to at least try to explain why that band is so eternally popular. I myself am a Zeppelin fan and always will be. Period. Thank you.

5-11-77 was one of the most iconic shows in Grateful Dead history because of the quality of recording, the musicianship that night, the setlist, a lot of things. It was at Barton Hall/Cornell University. Great show. I think it's kind of the one that everybody gravitates to out of habit, but it's still very good.

Look, I'm not a conspiracy theorist, but do you think that the NHL "encouraged" the Pens to drop game 6 in the manner that they did in order to "force" a game 7 and get some extra juice (ratings) for the NHL Playoffs, especially since the game would be in DC and DC has been in the news so much lately? Any info on that?
Jason Mackey
2:41
It would be so complicated to rig a hockey game that, if the NHL ever tried, I have no doubt it would screw it up in a very, very obvious way. So, no.

Any favorite things to do or see in Ottawa? Seems like a cool city!
Jason Mackey
2:43
Downtown is great. I loved it. Parliament Hill, etc. Just wonderful. Only problem is the rink is actually in Kanata -- way away from Downtown. We're staying close to Downtown, though, so I'm sure we'll do some additional sight-seeing on the off-day.

Ottawa is pretty far north, but do you think that they have a real chance to knock off the Pens? I honestly think that truly the Pens can go in WITH ALL THIS MOMENTUM and take out the Senators in 4 games. Prediction from you?
Jason Mackey
2:44
I saw Penguins in six. Two trips to Ottawa for us. I don't see Ottawa winning, but I also have a tough time seeing the Penguins sweep. I think the Senators are better than a lot of people in Pittsburgh are going to give them credit for.

I was watching the movie where Vince Vaughan and Kevin James go to a Blackhawks game together and Kevin James gets to go on the ice to take a shot for a prize. Do you know if they filmed that on location at an actual game or if that is all green screen and CGI? I ask you because I know you were at a game where they filmed a Segal movie, but I can't remember if that was a real game or if you were out in Hollywood when that happened? GO PENS
Jason Mackey
2:45
I don't know. And it was a Jean-Claude Van Damme movie (Sudden Death) that I was there for the filming of.

I like what Carter Rowney brings to the pens I hope they keep him in the line up against the senators.
Jason Mackey
2:45
As I said before, I think Rowney had an excellent game Wednesday. I'd keep him in, for sure.

Hey, where are all the "TRADE MARC ANDRE" fans this morning, Jason? I guess they all forgot that they said that. What can you tell those fair weather Marc Andre fans now?
Jason Mackey
2:46
Ha. It's none of my business to tell fans how to think. I just write about the team. And in terms of Fleury, he's written a better story than I could ever dream of. Awesome stuff.

MAF is the man. He was in the Caps heads all night like a Limp Bizkit song that you just can't shake. And just like Durst the caps will be thinking that today is just one of those days when they don't want to wake up because everything stinks and they just want to justify breaking stuff. Have you ever seen a goalie win the psychological battle like that before in a Game 7? Unreal.
Jason Mackey
2:47
I didn't think I'd wake up today and hear the Caps compared to Limp Bizkit. So there's that.

Radio today was saying Ovechkin is very good, probably HOF, but not an all-time great cuz he can't get his team to Finals. Do you think this is accurate? Who has had a better career Ovechkin or Malkin?
Jason Mackey
2:48
I think Ovechkin has time, so I'd want to hold all judgement until he's over. If he doesn't win a Cup and Malkin wins two or more ... then absolutely Malkin has had the better career. Points are a pittance compared to Cups, and Ovechkin, I'm sure, would tell you exactly that.

Who do you have out west the ducks or the predators?
Jason Mackey
2:48
I like the Ducks in seven.

Monday was the 40th anniversary of the Dead at Barton Hall! It was an amazing show and I wasn't there but my cousin's friend was and everything about that show is why I love the Dead. Do you have a favorite nugg from that show?
Jason Mackey
2:50
Scarlet > Fire. Then and always.
HB
2:50
I respect Ron cook but like I said last week he writes a piece doubting the Penguins and they win. Feels Good Man!!!
Jason Mackey
2:50
I will make sure to convey your feelings to Ron.

You had to love the toughness you saw last night from the Pens. Can you say a few words about how the Pens leadership really brought home the W? Thanks.
Jason Mackey
2:52
Believe it or not, it really doesn't make any difference to me whether the Penguins showed toughness Wednesday or whether they folded like a table. I get paid the same either way. I do think there is excellent leadership around the team. Whether it's Mike Sullivan, Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, Chris Kunitz, Matt Cullen or Marc-Andre Fleury, on down the line, the Penguins have a group of guys who perform in big games. I think Wednesday was another of many examples that should demonstrate how good of a coach Mike Sullivan is. I continually find it more and more nuts that this guy had to struggle to get a head coaching job.
HB
2:53
Maybe the caps need to pull a penguin and fire Trotz mid season.
Jason Mackey
2:56
I think that only works for the Penguins.
OK, folks. Thanks so much for participating. A lot of great questions. Let's do this again next week!
2:57
Oh, sorry. Never mind. We have more questions. Hold tight.

2:58
When is Conn Smythe decided? Does it always go to someone in the winning Cup team?
Jason Mackey
2:58
After the Stanley Cup winner has been determined. It's voted on by the Professional Hockey Writers Association (PHWA). It doesn't always go to the winning team, but it usually does.
Andy
2:58
I think Malkin should be guaranteeing more wins and Ron Cook should be writing more negative stories about the Pens if they want to keep winning
Jason Mackey
2:59
Man, Ron's taking a beating here. Can understand why, but he's paid for his opinion, not to predict that Pittsburgh teams will win everything all the time.
