I'm not aware that the Penguins are thinking seriously about trading for Athanasiou.

Are you excited for the regular season to begin? Seems like you probably didn't get a lot of down time.
Jason Mackey
2:13
Not a ton, but I'm not the type who functions well with down time. I love my job. My bosses probably think I'm nuts and maybe they're right. But I know that I run on a better speed whenever I'm active with this stuff. That said, I'll still get some time before the start of the season.

If you dont see maata or hagelin being moved then who do you see being moved for the 3c? Also chances on pens getting bozak?
Jason Mackey
2:13
I wouldn't peg them as good. For the deal the Penguins are probably best-served to make, you're looking at Wilson and Kuhnhackl. Or even nobody getting moved. I wouldn't rule that out, either -- keeping everyone on the NHL roster.
Brian

You know the top 9 has to be crosby, malkin, kessel, hagelin, sheary, guentzel, rust , hornvquist, (3c). But what will the 4th line look like ? Rowney, reaves , wilson/kunhackle? Or perhaps does archibalt move in to add speed?
Jason Mackey
2:14
I would go with Wilson, Rowney and Reaves. But, yeah, I'd be open to using Archibald. I like his game a lot. If they are somehow able to trade Hagelin, I'd be just fine replacing him with Archibald. They're similar players.
Jaromir Jagr

I've been working on face offs

Would be the greatest third-line center acquisition in the history of third-line center acquisitions.
Steve
2:15
Are you able to filter the questions you get here? Maybe take one or two questions about the third line center instead of 50?
Jason Mackey
2:16
I believe in answering everything I get -- as long as it's tasteful and not going to get anyone in trouble. If you take time out of your day to participate in this, and ask something respectfully, I'm going to answer it. I'm sorry it's been a bit third-line center heavy today.

Do you think a defenseman will be moved? Hard to have Letang, Schultz, Dumo, Maatta, Hunwick, and Cole all making above $2 million. Then you still have Ruhwedel and Pouliot + Corrado as extra options
Jason Mackey
2:17
I would be hesitant to do anything there because you don't know what you're getting with Pouliot and Corrado. They could be excellent, but that's no guarantee at this point. I see a very slim chance Maatta goes, but I have my doubts whether that's the best move to make.

Toronto would trade Kadri for Maatta to strengthen their D and give more room to their rising stars up front.  It would also save them a little bit of cap space which they'll  be needing in the next few years.
Jason Mackey
2:18
I don't agree with you that Toronto would be willing to make that trade.

I've seen a number of people mention that Wilson has played center before, in the AHL. Could he be the #3 center for the Pens?
Jason Mackey
2:19
In an emergency, maybe. But I don't think that's something the Penguins want to be counting on for any length of time. It's just too hard, especially with the PK responsibilities Wilson would inherit.

Do you think there's enough water under the bridge now that Jagr will get his number retired when he hangs them up? He's certainly worthy.
Jason Mackey
2:19
Yep. I absolutely think that will happen. Believe Mario said it at the NHL 100, too.

I've seen you mention Jagr returning to the Pens on numerous occasions. I don't see it!  please provide your thoughts as to why it would be a great move on the part of the Pens. Thanks
Jason Mackey
2:20
I didn't mention it. I got asked about it. There's a difference. No way it's ever happening. In a million years. Do I want it to happen? Sure. It would be fun. But it makes zero sense.

I find it funny that so many fans want to trade away defensive depth  for a center considering the state of the blue line during the last Cup run.
Jason Mackey
2:20
Fair point. Olli Maatta is an extremely polarizing figure among the fan base.
Lukas

Thanks for answering my questions! Until next time
Jason Mackey

Anytime, pal.

Scott Wilson never played C in the pro game. Blame EA NHL for that one listing him as a C for a long time.
Jason Mackey
2:21
Ha. I will. Although I do believe he has some background as a center growing up. But, again, it's way back. Not something he's going to do now for any length of time.
OK, folks. That's going to do it for today. Thanks so much for participating. I'm on vacation next week. Sam Werner's your guy. Be good to him ... and everyone else.
