Feels too light for the Rays, who understand how important Kiermaier is to them

Back on the Braves for a minute, is it most likely that the Sale/Archer talk is still just talk to make a show of being more competitive, and they aren't really interested (given the costs)?
Jeff Sullivan
10:11
No, they're definitely interested. Teams don't waste their own time just for show. But when it comes down to it I don't think the Braves will be willing to give up what the White Sox want
Eddie
10:11
Shouldn't 2017 be the year that the Braves actually figure out what some of these pitchers are made of? Is AAA really gonna help them? Are they gonna insert 3 young/rookie starters in 2018 when they figure to be in playoff picture?
Jeff Sullivan
10:11
Garcia probably won't last the season. Colon/Dickey could easily either get hurt or be moved. There will be opportunities a few months in
John
10:12
You think the Braves are looking at the rookie seasons of Lindor, Correa, and Seager and hoping that Swanson will take a massive step forward this year?
Jeff Sullivan
10:12
Dude just had a real strong debut. Doesn't need to take a massive step forward
10:13
Now, Albies, that's one they'd love to see install himself pretty quick
Erik
10:13
How much did acquiring Jay increase the odds of the Cubs moving one of Soler/Almora/Schwarber/Baez? Or was it just a boring depth signing not attached to anything else?
Jeff Sullivan
10:13
Boring depth. I think Soler was already a trade asset

10:14
Dipoto seems to have done a pretty good job of filling out the 25-man, except for the rotation. There appears to be a pretty significant chunk of cash left to spend, that wasn't spent on the bullpen or outfield. Do you think he has big plans for the rotation, be it through a high salary trade of one of the remaining free agents?
Jeff Sullivan
10:14
I wouldn't say big plans, but I doubt he's satisfied with the five-man rotation as it is
what could have beane...
10:14
Is there an article on fangraphs covering trout's mvp win? Cant find one.
Jeff Sullivan
10:15
I actually don't think so. Don't think we had anything new to say
John
10:15
Any rumors about Korean 3B Jae-Gyun Hwang? Do you think he gets a major league deal?
Jeff Sullivan
10:15
I do think he ultimately gets a shot but I haven't heard anything in a couple weeks
Barwin Darney
10:15
Do you see the Blue Jays making Stroman available for an outfielder with similar years of control? The Stroman for Ozuna framework is interesting to me.
Jeff Sullivan
10:16
That wouldn't really accomplish anything. They need Stroman just as much as they need an outfielder
Xolo
10:16
Am I crazy or are the ZiPS projections for the Padres young hitters pretty promising? They might not be enough on their own but if they can tank year their way to a Bryant or Schwarber, they might have something.
Jeff Sullivan
10:17
The actual makeup of the position players is underwhelming, but you never know if Margot or Renfroe might break out. The hitters are, at least, light years ahead of the pitching staff
Billy Haywood
10:17
Are you aware of, either here or on a different site, a way to do dual splits on a teamwide level? The interactive splits tool works great for players, but I'm trying to do research on team performance (i.e. vs LHP at home) and can't find anywhere that lets me do it
Jeff Sullivan
10:17
I *think* we have that currently in development
Matt K
10:18
Seeing that the Pirates are looking for Robles AND Lopez plus more in a McCutchen trade? Is that a pipe dream or for real?
Jeff Sullivan
10:18
Well, it's been about half an hour, so, yeah, that's still a pipe dream
I'm sure the Pirates want a lot! I'm sure they want more than what they can actually get

The Royals looked set to get a bunch of QO picks next year due to their huge pending FA class, but now have seen the value of that plummet. Should that change their offseason trajectory?
Jeff Sullivan
10:20
I don't think it'll change it too much. They stand to get less value next offseason, for sure, but not by a ton. The best picks are always the highest first-round picks, which the Royals weren't going to get anyway. The difference between what they'll get now and what they would've gotten otherwise is modest
mtsw
10:21
If he were traded to the Rockies, would playing in Coors improve Billy Hamilton's offense more it would for a typical player?
Jeff Sullivan
10:21
I...don't think so. I think you're looking more for a warning-track-power type
Justin Smoak!
Sean
10:21
Regarding the palmball: it's probably not very common because it generally has a much lower spin rate than a fastball or a changeup. With it's much lower velocity, MLB batters would be able to pick it up better.
Jeff Sullivan
10:21
There we go!
Tom Cruises
10:22
Thoughts on what the Jay's should do?
Jeff Sullivan
10:22
Go back in time and sign Matt Joyce
Shaemus
10:22
What should the angels do about second base?
Jeff Sullivan
10:22
For my taste, sign Hwang
Failing that, get Espinosa
Kat
10:23
What do you think went wrong with Smoak? He seemed to be universally regarded as a sure bet. As an extension, what "usually" goes wrong with any highly touted prospect like that?
Jeff Sullivan
10:24
Less power and less contact than expected. That's a brutal combination. His power isn't way down, and his contact isn't awful, but by hitting like the 30th or 40th percentiles for each, Smoak has been reduced to being a part-time player

Out of every 100 million $ contract, is the original A-Rod contract the best?? 7 years, avg of 8.0 WAR (56.1 WAR for 150 million).
