It is under-discussed. I'd expect there will be more coverage after the deadline, when we're into the boring death stretch of August
Woods
9:44
How quickly can we decide a reliever is really good? To put a face to the question, is Edwin Diaz already a top-20 or better reliever? What does that make him worth?
Jeff Sullivan
9:45
I don't think you need a huge sample for relievers when the stuff is obvious and the strikeouts are there. Edwin Diaz is clearly great. Dario Alvarez is clearly pretty good. We saw this last year with guys like Mychal Givens and Tony Zych. Relievers can pop up quickly and then it's just a matter of staying healthy
Carson Smith shows why it can be wise to trade these relievers if you're not in contention
Julio Pepper
9:46
Don't you think GMs should always just be going for value? Like if you were the Dodgers right now, wouldn't you be looking at the Chapman trade and being like "Who wants some Jansen!"
Jeff Sullivan
9:47
Well value only matters in the context of trying to win. If the Dodgers determined that they could win *without* Jansen then that would be a fascinating move that would piss people off. But without Jansen the Dodgers would be screwed
Whats that Odor
9:48
Dan Shulman was saying the Jays need to add a LHP, any ideas of who they can realistically can go after?
Jeff Sullivan
9:48
Will Smith is still the guy out there
Alvarez would've been neat

9:48
Reported that the Rays asked for Yelich and Realmuto back for Odorizzi. Just a case of Rays' front office hoping to take advantage of a badly-run org or would something like that somehow make sense?
Jeff Sullivan
9:48
No, that would be stupid. That's also probably just a first offer. Nobody ever accepts a first offer
9:49
If reporters had full access to initial trade rumors, they could make every front office look insane
Like a dealership offering a car at the listed price. It's stupid. But nobody pays the listed price, so

hi jeff - whattaya reckon happens to chris sale?
Jeff Sullivan
9:49
80/20 he stays put
bakkemon
9:50
what would be your advice to dayton moore?
Jeff Sullivan
9:50
Look to sell some pieces for players who could help as soon as 2017
Jeff
9:50
Who is Josh Naylor, and what should the Padres expect from him?
Jeff Sullivan
9:51
He's a young first baseman who 13 months ago was selected 12th overall. Recently turned 19 years old. He hasn't lit the minors on fire and young first basemen frequently turn into older designated hitters. So Naylor really, really, really needs to hit. But he was a high draft pick, and his stock hasn't cratered since. Good get
Julio Pepper
9:51
I feel like the buying/selling dichotomy gets too much credit.
Jeff Sullivan
9:52
I was interested in that quiet Montgomery/Vogelbach move because it was buying and selling simultaneously
Doremi
9:55
Mariners calling up Heredia who is a free agent after this season. Do they have rights to retain him over other teams if he impresses at the major league level?
Jeff Sullivan
9:55
Pretty sure he has the standard team-control conditions
9:56
No team would sign a player like that for one year
NYTT
9:56
All of these teams looking for a backend arm with high asking prices. Kind of surprising no mention of Vizcaino, even if he's on the DL with an oblique.
Jeff Sullivan
9:56
Vizcaino was on the market before he got hurt, but even then he had like a month or something of not throwing strikes. So he's killed his own trade stock
Torque
9:58
Pretend you're Tigers GM Al Avila, what move do you make?
Jeff Sullivan
9:58
Well, they probably can't afford Lucroy, which is a bummer
10:00
Boy, looking at this landscape, I sure don't know
10:01
Let's give 'em Nate Karns! They could go get swingman Nate Karns, whose stock is down. But he could offer some sort of help in the rotation and in the bullpen, and he's acquirable
This is a very unsexy suggestion. For that I apologize

Just joined a climbing gym a few weeks ago, any tips for an inexperienced climber on ways to improve?
Jeff Sullivan
10:02
Try to go fairly consistently. Climb with other people if you can, and it wouldn't hurt to take one or two multi-hour workshops on technique. Pay attention to the good climbers in the gym to see what they do. On your own time, fold in simple exercises like push-ups and core work. The core is like two-thirds of good climbing
Andrew
10:03
Seriously, with the return that the Padres got for Andrew Cashner and Colin Rea and with the return the Braves were able to get for freaking Lucas Harrell and Dario Alvarez, why on earth would Coppy NOT sell Teheran at this point? I get it, the Braves rotation would be a dumpster fire until the kids in A and AA start arriving, but this should be a no-brainer, right?
Jeff Sullivan
10:03
Well Teheran is on a different level from those guys, and it's easier to separate a team from its C-level prospects than it is to separate a team from its A-level prospects. So I get why Teheran negotiations would be tough
10:04
But I'm still very much in favor of moving him. Absolutely
NYTT
10:05
Is Freeman's power a one year thing or is this more or less who he is going forward?
Jeff Sullivan
10:05
This feels like a natural progression. He's trying to hit for more power
He's also boosted by the league-wide dinger incresae
*increase
