Okay, I am going to spend the rest of my work day trying to figure out a realistic Austin Barnes to the Red Sox scenario that both teams would appreciate. Keep in mind that Grandal becomes a free agent in 2019...so there is a real incentive for the Dodgers to hold onto Barnes. Additionally, the Red Sox have a lot of holes and a GM with a propensity to make bad deals.

I look at the Dodgers as a team without many holes, but might appreciate having another outfielder (Granderson is a free agent, Ethier will be bought out, Puig is on his last year of control). Assuming you want to push Chris Taylor back to a super-utility role and Cody Bellinger to first base, the Dodgers could potentially be looking for one starting outfielder and a platoon partner for Joc Jams.

Money isn't a real issue for either team, but for the sake of it, let's note that the Dodgers have almost $30M off the book in dead money between Carl Crawford and Alex Guerrero, and the Red Sox have a $1M buy out for Allen Craig.

In terms of team psychology, the Dodgers have no incentive to trade any of their starting pitchers as long as there are no rule changes to the 10-day Disabled Lists, so if they wanted to open up salary for another move, it probably won't come from ditching Brandon McCarthy or Hyun-Jin Ryu. It's also worth noting that Yu Darvish is a free agent. That said, we might have something here with the Red Sox taking on one year of dead money:

The Red Sox acquire Austin Barnes (ARB3 in 2023), Andrew Toles (injured), and Scott Kazmir ($17.67M in 2018) for Jackie Bradley Jr. (2nd of 4 Arb Years) and Blake Swihart (A4 in 2021).

Bradley is the headliner piece for the Dodgers, who insert him as the starting center fielder. Joc Pederson shifts to a platoon left fielder, and Puig holds down right field. Swihart gets an opportunity as C2, but it is Kyle Farmer's job to lose. Or maybe Los Angeles flexes some of that cash and ends up with some Boeuf Wellington.

The Red Sox pull a Dombrowski-ish trade, where they fill one hole by opening up another. Mookie Betts has the opportunity to shift to center field, and a free agent acquisition (JD Martinez) is overpaid to take right field. Scott Kazmir never appears for the Sox.
