I have low back pain, I've had it since I was 19 and I'm 30 now. I get a sharp pinch in my SI joint region with pain that radiates into my right hip. My left leg goes numb especially when sitting down. I've had two MRI's, 1 in 2011 and 1 in 2016. Both show hemangiomas in the lumbar region, and have developed more since my 2011 images. I'm at a loss, the pain causes me to nearly buckle from the "pinch" in my very VERY low back.

I should also add I've done physical therapy, lost weight, etc with no relief
Dr. Toussaint, Neurosurgeon
5:39
Lindsey, I am so sorry to hear this. Typically, hemangiomas are benign and asymptomatic. Have you seen a spine specialist?
Lindsey, did you have an injury that led to the back pain?
Dr Lazzarini, Orthopedic Surgeon
5:42
Roy, total knee replacement has improved dramatically. Recovery is typically 12 weeks before one is able to work requiring being on your feet all day. For more typical work, one can return in 4-6 weeks.

I have a large knot or bump on the inside arch on my left foot. It seems to be getting bigger as time goes by. It's been thee for several months. I looked it up and think it may be a fibroma. It bothers me walking now when the arch stretches. I am on my feet a lot with my job. I bought some orthotic inserts, but they have not helped much. How can this be treated? Will a steroid or cortisone shot injection help? Will it eventually shrink or will it keep growing? I am really concerned, but would like to address this before it gets much worse.

Dr. Toussaint, the only thing I can think of injury wise is I slipped but caught myself while walking around a slippery corner at a restaurant I worked at. That's the only thing I can think of. After my 2011 MRI the report said to be referred to neuro if pain persisted, but I did not get that message until I had my 2016 MRI.

I'm thinking of knee surgery after years of pain. Now I'm walking with a limp .Will knee surgery decrease the limping?
Lindsey
5:46
I saw a spine doctor earlier this year from midlands ortho but he quickly dismissed my case stating it was my weight. I've had this issue since I was skinny.
Dr. Knight, Ortho Sports Surgeon
5:46
Sebastian, thank you for your question. Given the duration of your symptoms and the failure of your current treatment methods, I would recommend evaluation by an orthopaedic surgeon. We would plan to begin with an xray and thorough examination to see if any further workup or imaging is warranted.
Dr. Dedmond, Orthopaedic Trauma
5:47
Hi, Sharon, if the limp is caused by your knee, typically the surgery will help with the limp but surgery alone may not be enough.  Often a limp after a long duration of pain is related to both the pain and the muscle weakness.  Frequently after surgery, physical therapy is also needed to help eliminate the limp.

Wow, that is great news! From what some people had told me it really had me thinking the worst! I think I could be out of work that long and be okay. Thanks!
Dr. Toussaint, Neurosurgeon
5:49
Lindsey, Weight certainly can play a role, but you bring up an excellent point. the key to treatment is a correct diagnosis so we can customize a treatment plan. We would love to see you at LBSI

i have a bulging disc . at the c5-6 and c6-7 and lesser degree at the c3-4 and c4-5 . ive tried thearpy , excercise , im now taking 150 mg of lyrica, 1mg of clonipin, and 60 mg of morphine all 3 times a day . nothing works for my pain. so what can be done but surgery ive tried everything else !!
Dr. Toussaint, Neurosurgeon
5:55
Charles, that sounds painful. Surgery can be effective in reducing pain in some situations such as arm pain but neck pain is less effective.

and who is the best nuerosurgeon for me , one who excepts medicare and medicaid ?
Dr. Toussaint, Neurosurgeon
5:59
Charles, We are happy to see you at LBSI. One of my partners, Dr Gunter, specializes in disc replacement surgery which may reduce your symptoms
Dr. Knight, Ortho Sports Surgeon
6:01
Faye. There are several overuse injuries that you can see in the wrist that can present with symptoms like you describe. It may be time to see an orthopaedic surgeon for this. I would start with an xray, and you may warrant evaluation for a nerve compression syndrome like carpal tunnel. I would be happy to see you at Southeastern Orthopaedics.
Dr. Toussaint, Neurosurgeon
6:01
Rosetta, foot symptoms may or may not be related to your prior surgery. do you have any pain down the leg?
charles waters
6:02
to dr toussaint : so does this mean i have to live with this pain for the rest of my life ?

My son wants to play football and I'm worried about him getting hurt. What are some of the most common ortho injuries you see in young football players and what's your advice on preventing them?
Rosetta
6:02
No
Dr. Toussaint, Neurosurgeon
6:03
Charles, I hope not but it is possible
Dr. Knight, Ortho Sports Surgeon
6:06
Hi Jim. Football is certainly a great sport, and certainly quite popular. The most common injuries that I see are typically knee injuries, ranging from sprains or tears of the ligaments about the knee to injuries of the cartilage in the knee.
The best recommendation to prevent injuries is proper technique, and fortunately this has become a focus of most coaches at all levels.
Dr. Toussaint, Neurosurgeon
6:07
Rosetta, It is possible that your symptoms are unrelated to your back surgery, since it doesn't sound like a typical "sciatica". I would start with seeing your PCP for an examination. certainly, imaging the spine could rule out a spine problem

I saw a commercial about spinal stimulation. What is that and who is it for?

6:09
TO Dr Toussaint : LBSI ? and do ya'll except medicare and medicaid ? let me know and i will call to make an appointment tomorow !
Dr. Toussaint, Neurosurgeon
6:11
Joe, Spinal cord stimulation is a great option for patients with chronic pain that have not done well with spine surgery or in patients with painful neuropathies. A great resource on stim can be found at www.controlyourpain.com

Hi, my name is Natasha. I am 21. I fell down the steps and broke my foot last week while visiting friends up in N.C. . They put me in a hard cast and said no weight-bearing. I am using crutches to get around. The last 2 or 3 days I have noticed that the cast seems to be really tight. I have had some tingling and numbness and my toes seem to have more color in them. Is this normal? . I am not supposed to go back to the doctor for another couple weeks. Should I go  and get it checked out by someone here locally. I am just trying to avoid any additional costs, because I am a student. I want to make sure I am taking the best care of foot.  Thanks!

I am getting old and it's getting hard for me to walk because of pain in my hips. How do I know when it's time for surgery?

I have a really bad knee from an old football injury. I have heard about stem cell therapy. What are your thoughts about this? Do you all have this type of treatment available?  If so, does this really work? Have there been good results?
charles waters
6:17
TO DR Toussaint : Thank You very much i'll be calling tomorow .
Dr Lazzarini, Hip and Knee Surg
6:18
We treat patients of all ages. We will determine the appropriate treatment that works best for your particular diagnosis.  Sometimes an injection is all you need.  Feel free to look us up at Lexington Medical Center.
Dr. Dedmond, Orthopaedic Trauma
6:19
Hi, Natasha.  Sorry about your injury.  Frequently after a broken bone, the swelling will increase over the first week or so.  It is important to elevate your foot as much as you can.  At this point, it sounds like your cast may be getting too tight. You probably do need to see someone locally to remove the cast and place a new one soon.  If it gets too tight, it can cause skin problems and even in rare situations cause death of local tissues if it is too tight.  I wouldn't wait until your scheduled appointment.
