Steve Adams

Happy Tuesday. Feel free to start firing questions and I'll get underway in earnest in a minute or two
Eugene

Hi , Steve! Any chances to see Moncada and Rosario on the field anytime soon? Thanks
Steve Adams
3:10
Sox GM Rick Hahn and Mets AGM John Ricco both basically said that's not happening in the near term. I could see Rosario coming up this summer if the Mets continue to be hammered by injuries, whereas with Moncada I believe it's more just a matter of when he cuts down the strikeouts. He's still whiffing at nearly 28% in AAA.
(Though the rest of his numbers are obviously excellent)

What can Yonder Alonso get me this July? A top 100 prospect or more???
Steve Adams
3:12
Maybe someone from the back end of those types of rankings, sure -- but I do think there's a tendency to get too caught up in Top 100 lists when looking at returns. An Alonso rental, assuming he continues hitting, should fetch at least one very legitimate prospect, or perhaps a pair of mid-tier guys.

Have to give Oakland credit for sticking with him; I thought it was odd they even tendered him a contract. Now he's a $4MM steal that any team can afford, for the most part, come deadline season.
Scherzer's Blue Eye
3:13
Get hit in the knee by a 100-mph liner? Pish posh, how about an Immaculate Inning as a response? Max Scherzer is a damned warrior.
Steve Adams
3:14
Scherzer's one of my favorites to watch -- heroics after being hit by a line drive that would leave me vomiting in the fetal position or not. Love his demeanor
Hank Chen
3:14
Could you speculate on when Lucas Sims and Sean Newcomb will be called up? Thanks!
Steve Adams
3:16
Sims before Newcomb, as the latter is still walking too many guys (same story, different minor league level). If you're the Braves, there's no real reason to promote either before the Super Two risk has been mitigated; they're not contending, and they're paying Colon, Dickey, Garcia to eat innings... may as well use the present-day money they've invested to help save some future coin.

Mid-June for Sims -- later in the summer for Newcomb if he gets the walks in check (though he's never shown an ability to do so)

Think Zimmer is ready for the big leagues
Sufferfortribe
3:18
Any thoughts on the Zimmer promotion? And do you see him in CF and Chisenhall back in RF?
Steve Adams
3:18
Expecting a fair amount of strikeouts, but the glove, power and speed are all exciting tools. He should move Chisenhall back over to RF in my opinion.
Jon
3:18
Holland to the Nationals: Would Robles + Fedde get it done, or would the Nats have to add another piece?
Steve Adams
3:19
Rox are leading the NL West. I don't think they'll win the division, but their offseason moves clearly suggested a team that thinks it can win now, and thus far that's played out. They're not moving Holland barring a massive collapse.
Tom
3:19
Do the Mets still have a chance of contending?
Steve Adams
3:20
They're 4.5 games back in the Wild Card. Sure. I don't think they have a chance at the division, but the generally crappy play of teams like the Pirates and Giants has made the WC race more realistic for all fringe contenders.
Cliff
3:21
Do you think the Dodgers will move Cody Bellinger to CF when Forsythe or Gonzalez come back? Maybe put Taylor in LF? Experiment worth trying?
Steve Adams
3:21
They'll put him anywhere on the diamond to keep that bat in the lineup. CF will be on the table I'm sure.
Monty
3:22
Saw Greinke linked to Cubs? Good idea for either team?
Steve Adams
3:23
Maybe in one of those ever popular "X number of trade that need to happen immediately" types of columns, but I haven't come across anything seriously linking the two outside of speculation and wishful thinking.

But the Cubs won't pay Arrieta at that rate to work into his late 30s... I doubt they're doing it for Greinke. And no one should want that contract, regardless of how well he's pitching.
Austin
3:23
If Bud Norris continues pitching like he does will he draw interest at the trade deadline? Maybe not so much as a closer, but perhaps as a setup man?
Steve Adams
3:25
Absolutely. I watched Norris' save last night and he looks much better than I can remember seeing him. (Got a bit wild, but the stuff is noticeably better, even to my not-a-trained-scout eyes)

He's cheap, he's throwing hard, he's missing bats, he's getting outs... if he does this for another two months, why would a team in need of 'pen help not have interest?
Pete
3:25
Trea Turner for Quintana and Robertson. Who says no?
Steve Adams
3:25
Nats aren't trading Turner
Jesse
3:25
Any word on how long Taillon will be out for?
Steve Adams
3:26
No updates from the team or Taillon's camp on how long he's going to miss or what's next for him, which is understandable given his unfortunate situation. Hopefully sooner rather than later, but it's anyone's guess right now as all parties involved are quiet.
Theo
3:27
Is Preller still being treated like a lepper for his less than ethical trade last year?
Steve Adams
3:29
If the Padres have someone another team wants, that team's going to go after him, plain and simple. And last year's debacle just means the Padres are probably more forthcoming than nearly anyone with medical disclosure now, as any slip-ups or irregularities would come with massive penalties. I'm sure lots of his peers (Dave Dombrowski and Michael Hill, in particular) are pissed off at him, but if some team wants Trevor Cahill, Brad Hand, etc. -- they're not going to stubbornly refuse to speak to Preller out of principle
Matt Klentak
3:29
Tommy Joseph for Matt Strahm
Steve Adams
3:30
Lot easier to find a first-base-only slugger than it is to find a lefty with Strahm's stuff. Not close.
Bob Brenley's moustache

Socrates Brito is out with a broken finger, any chance he gets as look if healthy before Pollack returns? Wasn't he a prized prospect at one time?
Steve Adams
3:31
I haven't seen anything to suggest that Pollock's going to miss a significant amount of time, and Brito's never been an elite prospect. A decently regarded prospect in a thin D-backs system, yeah, but if he ends up back on the MLB roster this year it's probably as a fourth OF, which is how I'd imagine many teams view him.
Renae
3:32
Do you submit an AS ballot or do you not care?
Steve Adams
3:34
I used to love All-Star balloting as a kid at the park -- punching out the little dots and agonizing over my decisions as if Kent Hrbek's All-Star fate was really in my hands or something, ha. Now with online voting and the fact that you can submit a few hundred on your own, I don't really care that much. If there's someone I think is really deserving in the Final Vote mix, I may cast a couple votes, but in the end it's not a big deal to me.
I don't get worked up over All-Star voting, Hall of Fame voting, etc.
Adam
3:36
Are the Brewers an ace away from contention ? Granted, that's a long ways
Steve Adams
3:38
They'd need multiple additions in the rotation and in the bullpen, in my view, and I'm not sold that Jett Bandy+Manny Pina is suddenly a dominant catching tandem, either. There's still some work to do there, but hitting big on Thames was a big plus for them, and the Shaw pickup looks really nice (though it seemed like a solid get for them from the beginning)
Joey Gallo
3:39
Can I possibly win a MVP with a Batting Avg under .240? The lowest all time to win an MVP is .267
Steve Adams
3:40
Gallo's power is fun, but you could name 10-20 more deserving players of MVP honors without even trying that hard.
