As April draws to a close, 15 of the 30 MLB teams have less than a 16% chance of reaching the playoffs.  Hope and faith!

In other news, I got LASIK last week, so it's a little weird looking at a computer screen.  But not too bad.

I had LASIK 18 years ago!  Congrats. You will love it.

I wish I had done it ten years ago.  It's pretty miraculous.

I have Hope to the Braves fix the Bullpen, But How is the ?

The trade market should be flush with relievers - seven teams are basically out of contention entirely right now - so the Braves could go after Ken Giles, Will Smith, Mychal Givens, maybe Keone Kela, etc.

Mychal Givens has reportedly been put on the trade block. Which team is the best fit and what do you forsee the return being?
Tim Dierkes
2:05
The return will be a prospect or two most of us haven't heard of, and there's always a bunch of teams looking in the summer.  Nats, Mets, Mariners, Brewers, Braves, Red Sox, Dodgers, Cubs...

Can you explain the rash of ace pitching that is in the toilet?  What gives with DeGrom, Syndergarrd, Sale, etc?
Tim Dierkes
2:07
My natural inclination is to not put too much stock into any 30-inning stint for a starting pitcher, unless there are major red flags for his health.  If these three are feeling good, I expect that they'll have strong seasons.  Someone like deGrom, one has to be careful with expectations.  A 3.00 ERA would be totally in line with what we might expect moving forward, even if he was at 1.70 last year.
Gigantic trades?

Panda the best hitter on the Giants?
Tim Dierkes
2:07
I'd go with Brandon Belt.

Is the pretty horrible return on investment teams who signed big contract relievers this offseason hurting Kimbrel’s market or will teams eventually cave anyway?
Tim Dierkes
2:08
Let's run down how the biggest relief contracts have gone so far.
Britton - 2.45 ERA but 5.7 BB/9
2:09
Familia - really bad
Ottavino - 2.51 ERA but 6.9 BB/9
Kelly - terrible
2:10
Andrew Miller - bad
Robertson - bad, on IL
2:11
Just looking at those results, those of us who were beating up the Cubs and Red Sox for not signing anyone must admit that signing one of those guys really wouldn't have helped for the first 17% of the season.  It's a lot less reliable than we sometimes like to admit.
I don't think those players' performances are affecting Kimbrel's market much.  I think teams feel like they might as well just ride out the draft before trying to sign him.

How excited should Angels fans be about Griffin Canning?
Tim Dierkes
2:13
From what I have read, he's a high-floor, mid-rotation guy.  So, pretty excited given the state of their rotation.  Plus, a lot of guys labeled mid-rotation or worse as prospects went on to be much better than that.

At what point do the Red Sox or Chris Sale just acknowledge this is his current talent level?  If he's not hurt, his mechanics are fine, then what's the reason for his terrible start?
Tim Dierkes
2:15
I mean, it's six starts.  If his next six are around this level too, then we can start to wonder more about what he can be this season.  Still, there's nothing for the team or player to acknowledge.  They are doing their best.

Who’s your top 3 in ROY for both leagues?
Tim Dierkes
2:18
AL - Vogelbach, Brandon Lowe, Spencer Turnbull
2:19
NL - Alonso, Christian Walker, Fernando Tatis Jr., followed closely by Chris Paddack

How far out does a "rebuilding" team like Texas need to be to trade controllable starters at the deadline?  If they are winning 50% of their games do they sit on Minor and Lynn and try to add in the off season or deal them for prospects if possible?
Tim Dierkes
2:21
They realistically have almost no chance at the playoffs this year.  I wouldn't look at Minor or Lynn as pieces for the 2020 club, but I would hold on to them if the offers aren't interesting.  You look at what Minor is doing this year and expect something pretty good back.

Is the Vlad coverage over hyped?  Kieboom hits two HR's in first few games while Vlad does nothing.
Tim Dierkes
2:24
All due respect to Kieboom, but there are a lot of 55 type players (first division regular but maybe not an All-Star) who will debut this year, but Vlad Jr is one of the best prospects of the last ten years or so, right up there with how Bryce Harper was viewed.  The hype for Vlad Jr comes from his insane performance, scouts raving, and his lineage, so it seems justified regardless of how his first 13 PA have gone.

Who other than Bumgarner is the SP most likely to be traded before the deadline?
Tim Dierkes
2:26
I'm wondering if we should throw Chris Archer into the possible mix.  Otherwise, Stroman, Mike Minor, Matt Boyd, Lynn, and a slew of others.

What will the Cubs' everyday line-up look like when Addison Russell returns?  It feels like he adds little to the team at this point and wouldn't be worth the PR backlash.
Tim Dierkes
2:27
I would agree with that assessment.  The Cubs made a poor decision to tender Russell a contract in November, and now they seem to be wanting to do some kind of seat of the pants thing where Russell plays multiple positions, since it seems so dumb/wrong to bump Baez off SS for him.  I think the saying "better late than never" applies here.  The Cubs can still move on now.

What’s it going to take for the Padres to cut ties with Ian Kinsler?
Tim Dierkes
2:30
I don't know that they need to cut him loose one month into a two-year deal, but getting Luis Urias back into the Majors and letting him earn playing time at 2B is good for now.

Of the widely held belief of the true division contenders, meaning those that were thought to have the better chances to win their division, other than Boston, what team seems to have the hardest road to success?
