It's the first chat of December, and the first chat of lockout season!  Uh, yay?  Let's take some questions...
Alex
7:51
What do you think of the Giants offseason so far? I
Mark P
7:52
Pretty decent.  Needing to fill four-fifths of their rotation, the Giants already have three of those spots addressed, all at reasonable prices.  Still plenty of payroll and means to get a new bat or two, or a fifth starter, or bullpen help, etc. later in the winter

7:53
Curious as to who's side the chatters favor, owners, players or no opinion ??
Mark P
7:54
I feel like "no opinion" or " a pox on both their houses" would be the clear winner
Tyler
7:54
What do we have to talk about now?
Mark P
7:54
C'mon, plenty of time for questions about hot dog toppings and Jo Adell trade rumors!
Seiya Suzuki
7:55
Am I coming over or not? Spring Training starts in February here and I need to know what park I’m going to drop bombs in.
Mark P
7:55
The lockout interrupting Suzuki's 30-day posting period is a weird twist, but there hasn't been any indication yet that he wouldn't still end up somewhere in MLB
Jesse Cook
7:56
Once the lockout ends, do you think the Cardinals will be active, or go with what they have now?
Mark P
7:57
I think they have some moves left to come.  I still think DeJong might be a trade candidate, once the dust settles with the free agent shortstops.  The Rangers landing two of the big names, for instance, was a fun curveball into the market
David Stearns
7:57
Now that I unloaded the JBJ contract. Do I make a run at Kershaw? Burnes, Woodruff, Peralta, Kershaw, Houser does have a good ring to it......
Mark P
7:57
It does, but by all accounts, Kershaw is seen as only signing with the Dodgers or his hometown Rangers
chunkyshark
7:58
Why do you think Richard Rodriguez was non-tendered? Seems like a pretty good arm. And any predictions on where he ends up/what he gets?
Mark P
7:59
Rodriguez's performance way outperformed his peripherals, and since the Braves didn't trust him enough for any postseason work, they felt their money was better spent elsewhere.  So many teams were linked to Rodriguez before the deadline that he should still get some interest on a one-year deal for a few million bucks.  He might even return to Pittsburgh, as the Pirates reportedly had interest

Who gets in tomorrow?
Mark P
8:01
I'll be pretty stunned if Buck O'Neil doesn't finally get it, but I guess I shouldn't get too confident, since O'Neil also seemed like a slam dunk back in 2006.

My guess is that O'Neil, Minoso, Dick Allen, and Gil Hodges all get in.

I know it's a decidely not the majority opinion but as much as I would like to see Freeman remain a Brave, I won't weep copious tears if he signs elsewhere. The Braves have the prospect resources to acquire someone like Olsen and still have many more $ availablre to address other needs. Thoughts?
Mark P
8:03
You might not be wrong, since Freeman certainly wouldn't be the first player (and especially first baseman) to decline as he gets into his 30's.  The Braves know the risks involved in committing big money to a player who may already be past his prime years....except Freeman may also be one of those special cases where his "prime" is still going.

Do the Phillies finally go over the luxury Tax?
Mark P
8:06
Given how aggressive ownership seems to be, and given how Dombrowski has operated in the past, I don't think the tax threshold is seen as a huge obstacle.  Plus, we also don't know what the threshold will be for 2022, so the Phils might yet end up with quite a bit of extra spending capacity without even having to worry about the tax

Think there are a lot of deals in place ? Just waiting for this to be over ?
Mark P
8:07
Other than Justin Verlander, I think a lot of the biggest deals have already been finalized.  Seems like a lot of players and agents made a point to get their next contracts figured out pre-lockout.
Frank Cashen
8:07
Mets need pitching.  Do you see them going for free agents or moving JD Davis, Dom Smith or Jeff McNeil in a trade(s)?
Mark P
8:08
Based on purely my own speculation, I think one of those players is being traded prior to Opening Day.
Eric L
8:08
With the lack of centerfielders on the free agent market, what are the chances that Randall Grichuk gets moved once the lockout ends?
Mark P
8:08
There's a chance, though Grichuk is less a "center fielder" than a "right fielder who isn't an awful center fielder."
Michael Kraz
8:10
Is it surprising the Braves talked to Correa?
Mark P
8:11
Many teams talk to many free agents as a matter of due diligence, rather than necessarily a strong interest.  So with this in mind, Atlanta talking to Correa is pretty routine.
Nicholas
8:11
What are the chances of the White Sox re- signing Carlos Rodon?
Mark P
8:11
I tend to think pretty low.  Without even a qualifying offer issued, it seems like the Sox are ready to just move on
Tiger Fan
8:13
Winker to Detroit for Dingler and Madden, does Cinci bite or do they need more?
Mark P
8:13
Reds would need more, or be able to find a lot more from another team
Kim Ng
8:14
Who I am getting? Shwarber? Mullins? Ketel? Castellanos? Reynolds?
Mark P
8:15
If Schwarber is willing to take three years and $60MM, I think the Marlins should jump.  Heck, a lot of teams should be in on him at that price.
Jarredson
8:16
Are big changes in store if the Halos and Phillies fail to reach the postseason yet again in '22?
Mark P
8:17
In terms of rebuild, probably not with the Phils, since they have so much money committed to top stars already, and the stars are largely living up to expectations.

I also don't think the Angels will change course unless Trout and/or Ohtani started to publicly agitate
