By the trade deadline, what helps the Cubs more to make another deep postseason run? SP or RP?
Jeffrey Todd
2:51
Seems more likely to me a rotation need will open. Folks overlook the amazing health they had last year in the rotation. Not to mention several guys who perhaps overperformed their true talent.

bring back the podcast! and if it's not enough of a "revenue driver" (as you mentioned a few weeks ago) then why not just start accepting advertisement revenue?
Jeffrey Todd
2:52
We were open to that. But our listeners proved too smart to use the promo codes in the ads we did run : )

How big of an issue will center field be for the Tigers this season?
Jeffrey Todd
2:53
I mean, it doesn't look very promising. Sort of like the Angels' LF situation last year. But teams have made workable platoons that didn't seem particularly hopeful in the past.

Will the Yanks extend Tanaka considering his elbow issues?
Jeffrey Todd
2:53
Expect they'll wait and see.

Do you read or participate in any of the Fangraph guys chats?
Jeffrey Todd
2:54
Used to before I started writing for MLBTR, and I'll still read through them sometimes. Dave Cameron, especially.

Do you think the Mets still have interest in signing Matt weiters?
Jeffrey Todd
2:54
Don't think they have the payroll space for it.
Curly_W
2:54
Is Blanton a good fit in D.C? Do you see any interest on either side?
Jeffrey Todd
2:54
Haven't seen that suggested, but it makes sense, sure.

2:55
Worst contract so far this off season in your opinion. Off the top of your head of course
Jeffrey Todd
2:55
For value, I don't love the Desmond signing. And he's probably my favorite player, so you know I mean well.

Went to Coors Field last summer for first time in 20 years, and saw a lot of the 'alternative viewing locations' they've recently installed (many of which of course don't have views). Similar things being added to Yankee Stadium this year. What're your thoughts on this? I guess I get whay the teams are doing it, but why do the patrons go if not for the game?
Jeffrey Todd
2:57
Spent the last 3 seasons living 2 miles from Coors, and I am not as in love with the park as most others. It's nice to have playgrounds and such when you have kids, or bars when you don't have kids, but as something of a purist, I agree that it doesn't create the best environment for the game.
That said, from a biz perspective, Monfort accurately saw that he could capitalize on Denver's great weather and people's desire to hang out and drink in a cool spot. So it's hard to argue.

White Sox seem set on Tim Anderson as Shortstop of the future, with his so so D and swing and miss I don't see it.
Jeffrey Todd
2:58
We'll see, but at this point they have to find out, esp after his solid showing last year.

Where do you fit in the beard power rankings of baseball? Keuchel, Werth, Justin Turner, and Gattis.
Jeffrey Todd
2:59
Gattis, because he's just pure baseball grime.
Super braves fan

Do you see the Braves signing someone like Aaron Hill to platoon with Adonis Garcia
Jeffrey Todd
3:00
No indication of that. They do have Jace Peterson available to float between 2B/3B as a lefty bat. Then again, Kelly Johnson is still unsigned!
3:01
(Hill is a righty, so doesn't make much sense.)
Ryan
3:01
If you could be hired onto any major league club to do anything what job would you want to do? Why?
Jeffrey Todd
3:02
At this stage of my life, assuming I didn't have kids to worry about (travel), I'd be gunning for a split gig as a bullpen catcher and contract/rules strategist.
Pondering where to play
3:02
Would you rather sign a minor league deal with invite to spring training in hopes that you can make the team (and make decent money) or sign for a certain 1- to 2- year KBO agreement for a bit more total cash (despite life change)?
Jeffrey Todd
3:02
The fact that both are an option is what is so great about the internationalization of the game. Plenty of guys want to keep knocking at the MLB door. But others rightly want to make some money, play everyday in the top league of a country, and have a unique cultural experience.
Chris
3:03
Cop out Toddy. Figure out a better way to monetize the podcast then. Because it's always a good idea to blame your listeners, right?
Jeffrey Todd
3:03
It was a compliment! I really didn't enjoy hawking goods and services.
3:04
It just was going to take a much bigger investment in time and resources to take it to the next level. Maybe we'll revisit that in the future.
Time Dierkes
3:05
so entering in promo codes determines how effective advertisements are? I dont see the logic...
Jeffrey Todd
3:05
The podcast advertisers we had wanted to see people heading to their websites and using the promo codes we gave. No way to track it otherwise.
3:06
Moving on from this topic!

Which rookie will have the greatest impact this year?
Jeffrey Todd
3:07
Here's a real cop out. Swanson and Bregman are technically still rookies, I believe. I'll take the latter.
Market alternativces
3:08
Cuthbert is out of options he can't be up and down
Jeffrey Todd
3:08
Well then. I stand corrected. Bench role unless/until he's outrighted, then.
