I agree Jeff that Villar has good value. Also hard to judge the offer too much without knowing how many years the Brewers were looking to buy out.
Jeffrey Todd
2:38
True, though I'd assume it would've been something on the order of 3 arb years, 1-2 FA seasons, 1-2 options.
Bob
2:39
How do you feel about pittsburgh's rotation?
Jeffrey Todd
2:39
I'm not overly concerned. Seems they have enough depth and some upside. Obviously doesn't look like a top unit, but shouldn't the Bucs also have some benefit of the doubt still on pitching?
DC
2:40
that was mean
Strasburg
2:40
You're and a$$
Jeffrey Todd
2:40
Not sure if these are serious, but I have been a staunch defender of the Nats' handling of the Strasburg shutdown, quite against the general grain.
(No, we don't need to revisit that fully here.)
Strasburg

Jeffrey Todd
2:40
Ha.
2:41
Was just saying he and the club would be harangued about being shut down before the postseason, if it came to that.
AJ
2:41
Do the Angels move a bat (CJ Cron?) before the season starts?
Jeffrey Todd
2:41
I don't think so. Never made much sense to me that he was going to be dangled in trade. Partially b/c look at the list of names we already covered of still-available DH/1B types.
Jay
2:41
Do the Nats go get a closer? I know Joe Nathan has a tone of career saves, but he's the same age as me. I was wondering about Dolittle or Colome?
Jeffrey Todd
2:42
Don't see Colome b/c of the price tag, but wouldn't sleep on Doolittle. Those teams match up quite a bit. And the A's have been holding him back ... hmmm
Ben F
2:43
If you had the 3rd pick in this year's fantasy draft... you take ______
Jeffrey Todd
2:43
Is Mookie available? Wait, who allowed fantasy questions?
Jay
2:43
Angels up the middle defense will be a thing of beauty this season
Jeffrey Todd
2:44
True. Espinosa is excellent and little needs to be said about Simmons. I actually kind of like what they did with adding Espi and Valbuena. Gives them some options, including playing either at third. (I'm somewhat less bullish on Escobar.)
Jay
2:45
Where did Balfour go?
Jeffrey Todd
2:45
Retired. So if he follows the Gagne path, we'll see him in like 2023.
Mark
2:45
Do you foresee the Cubs making a move for a starter midway through the year in anticipation of Arrieta's possible (probable?) departure?
Jeffrey Todd
2:46
Certainly possible they'll need a starter -- SP health was nigh miraculous last year -- and also that they'd weigh the future in doing so. But I doubt it would strictly be about Arrieta. Also have to consider aging Lester, departing Lackey.
Timmmmmy!
2:46
is anyone really interested in me?
Jeffrey Todd
2:46
I mean, teams will certainly give him a chance. But we said the whole thing last year was way overhyped at the time, and that certainly proved to be the case. Hard to see him bouncing back, except that we do have crazy examples such as Kazmir & Hill.

Any talks in add one or two more chats? Fans really enjoy it
Jeffrey Todd
2:47
Maybe. Haven't specifically considered it but we have gotten lots of good feedback (thanks!) and it's fun to do.
Jimmy the Freak
2:47
Do you see Jarrod Dyson getting FT Abs (say 530) this year or is he going to be platooned again
Jeffrey Todd
2:48
I think 530 might be high, but I wouldn't be surprised at all if he tops his personal record.
337 last year ... I'd bet he gets more.
Snitker
2:48
How many wins for the Braves? It may seem far-fetched but I think I could see 81. Lineup looks good. Pitching looks much better. Albies up in second half. Am I crazy?
Jeffrey Todd
2:49
Crazy to hope for 81? No, that seems attainable. Not necessarily likely, mind you, but that isn't a wildly implausible number by any stretch.
DC
2:49
Norris back to A's for Doolittle to platoon with Vogt again? worked well before
Jeffrey Todd
2:50
They'll want more for Norris. But it would fit the Nats/A's history of trading players back and forth (Suzuki, Cole).
Kaylee
2:50
Fans really enjoy it when you don't keep selecting the same people posting questions.
Jeffrey Todd
2:50
I know. I try. Honestly I'm not even sure if I have or not, though, b/c I don't really look at the handles.
Darth Vader
2:50
I saw Mike Trout get picked 3rd in a mock draft today...
Jeffrey Todd
2:50
C'mon people.
Joe
2:51
Why hasn't anyone asked a question about Quintana yet? Is he just out of the trade conversation at the moment?
Jeffrey Todd
2:51
People have, but it's kind of beating a dead horse at this point. No real change in the market situation that I can detect.
