Even if you sort of line that up a bit more with his real value, it's one of those situations where it seems like easy arbitrage but isn't. Teams don't jerk respected veterans around if they can avoid it. Shaw won't likely want to sign with the Sox anyway. And buying prospects has limits when you are talking about a non-premium player. Even if they are giving away two and a half free years of Shaw, they wouldn't get back a prospect worth $40MM.

How much surplus value does Dee Gordon have given his contract?  Would the Marlins require much in order to deal him away?
Jeffrey Todd

In the region of "none."
Like, I'd be surprised if he got more years/dollars as a FA.

Calipari says the solution to the college BB situation is to use the  baseball model of three years in college if you don't sign out of HS. Makes sense to me, what do you think?

I don't know, but I do think the NCAA  is a terrible joke and a stain on institutions of higher education.

Freese, SRod, Frazier, et al.

Harrison also in the mix, of course. So many possibilities.

Shaw is excellent and durable, and RP market has skyrocketed.  I'd be shocked if Shaw didn't get 3 years.

Sure, real solid pitcher and I can get behind 3 years. But not at that AAV.

Hi Jeff thanks for the chat. What kind of return do you think the Nats get for gio gonzalez if they decided to sell high (peripherals not so good)?
Jeffrey Todd
3:32
Not a ton at this point. But he'd certainly have value. They also need him in the rotation, I think.
3:33
Like, Gio at one year is exactly what the Nats need with Ross still working back and such. So I don't see a reason to consider trading him.
Okay folks, I'm going to close up shop here.
Thanks as always!
