Sorry for being tardy ... one of those days. I'll let everyone get settled in and get started in a few minutes.

Do you feel the harsh penalties handed down to Atlanta were in any small way to discourage teams from making similar, under the table deals with Ohtani?
Jeffrey Todd
2:15
Not really. I think it was about cleaning up the broader international arena and sending a clear message regarding brazen rules evasion.
Let's not forget that institutions are run by individuals. The Coppy lifetime ban sure isn't a slap on the wrist.

Brewers starting CF to begin the season: Broxton, Brinson, Phillips, someone else?  Would they consider starting Brinson out at AAA to try & gain another year of control?
Jeffrey Todd
2:16
Broxton, Brinson, Brrrr... isn't there another one ...
ah yes, Braun?!
2:17
(OH I misread this sorry)
CF
2:18
I expect they will compete the job in camp. I think Brinson is one of those guys who has been at the upper minors and touched the majors enough that he's not going to be held back by service considerations.  Could still also deal from this depth if the right opportunity arises.

DO you think Archer lands with the Brewers?
Jeffrey Todd
2:18
Would have as good a chance as anyone to get him, but it's going to be a situation where the Rays ask for high bids and don't make a deal unless they get a ton back.

Thoughts on the Jim Johnson to LAA deal? Sneaky good for Eppler to grab that 1.1M in pool space?
Jeffrey Todd
2:20
Well, it's a pretty interesting trade for the Angels. There are things to like about what JJ did last year -- nice peripherals. So he's not a terrible bet standing alone. And by freeing up the Braves' payroll and taking money they really can't use ... yeah, they get a better shot at either grabbing Ohtani or using the Braves' money to buy their former prospects.
2:21
Guess they also feel they could part with the payroll space. If they get Ohtani it sure won't hurt to have spent a bit on Johnson, though who knows the odds of that.

Would the Giants be better off trading for Stanton or McCutchen?
Jeffrey Todd
2:22
Guess I'd be prioritizing CF myself, so neither? I mean ... Stanton is a massive contract on a team that is already loaded up. Cutch is perfectly fine, if the price is right, but perhaps they could do more by building out some quality platoonable corner pieces and allocating the resources to getting a real CF.
2:23
(Cutch is not a center fielder, I'm assuming.  They don't want Span patrolling the large outfield so presumably don't want Cutch doing so either.)
Matt Holliday
2:23
Do I get a major league deal?
Jeffrey Todd
2:24
Without breaking down the market completely, I'd have to think so, yes.
Sorry had a little connection issue there, hopefully we are good now ...

Any reason why the Cardinals wouldn't end up with Juan Nicasio?
Jeffrey Todd
2:25
If they want him they can go offer the Cecil contract and just get him, but there are plenty of other teams with interest, other options for the Cards to consider, and good reason for STL not simply to overpay to ensure he's back.
It's a solid fit but it doesn't seem like a foregone conclusion to me.

If the Astros as looking to trade Mike Fiers, wouldn't he be a perfect target for the Cardinals? 2 year stop-gap in rotation for a reasonable price?
Jeffrey Todd
2:27
Similarly, he's a guy that could be a reasonable fit with a number of organizations. If the Cards really feel they need a rotation stop gap, he'd make sense there, but I'm not sold on that being truly necessary there.

2:27
Does Tyler Chatwood or Chris Tillman possibly make any sense for the Cards? Either one could be a fifth starter in the rotation or pitch out of the bullpen.
Jeffrey Todd
2:27
What is going on here?!?!
Yes, sure, ha. Swingman could make sense for Cards. But Chatwood is getting more money from someone else, in all likelihood.
Zach
2:28
What are your % odds that Stanton gets traded TODAY? And to the Giants.
Jeffrey Todd
2:28
IF he gets traded today, it would likely be to the Giants.
I don't think he'll be traded today.
More time for others to get involved, I believe.
Pitcher
2:29
Would you rather have Shaw or Minor? Why so?
Jeffrey Todd
2:29
Totally depends upon need. Shaw has an impeccable track record of durability/dependability. Minor has health issues but offers lots of intriguing flexibility as a multi-inning lefty.
Ryan
2:30
Any truth to KC being after Jackie Bradley Jr? What would they need to give you for him?
Jeffrey Todd
2:30
No idea, but the Sox aren't going to just listen to prospect offers for JBJ unless they first make a major OF acquisition.
2:31
A JBJ trade would be motivated by the Red Sox deciding they prefer alternatives at the MLB level, not by the interest of KC or others.
Joe
2:31
Doesn't that package from the Giants Fort Stanton seem a little light? Couldn't half the teams in the league offer better prospects than that?
Jeffrey Todd
2:32
With a Stanton trade, the prospect return all depends upon the amount of money (if any) going to the acquiring team.
