Opening the room early to get this thing moving ... I'll have to stop right at 4.
So get your questions in!
(That's 4 EST.)

Where does Machado end up?
Jeffrey Todd
3:02
I have to cop out on this one, b/c there are still so many possibilities. Obviously injuries could change things. But even as it stands ... Cubs make clear sense. Braves. Maybe Dodgers, Indians. What if Red Sox send down Devers? They need every W they can get. Etc.

Are you buying the Mets open to trading deGrom and/or Syndergaard?
Jeffrey Todd

Will Mets seriously consider trading deGrom or Syndergaard?

I actually think they will actively listen to offers on deGrom, in the end.
3:06
Not that it'll happen, but I don't think they can afford not to. And the SP market is pretty weak, so there could really be some interesting names dangled if deGrom is still pitching at a Cy level.

3:06
Do you see Jose Abreu being traded? If so, what kind of return should the White Sox expect?
Jeffrey Todd
3:06
Lean no, because the market just doesn't seem to be there and they value him in Chicago. I think they'll put a big price on him, won't get it, and will try to extend him in the winter.
3:07
That said, he'll be in a fairly high spot on the top 50 trade candidate list once it's finally finished. (So close.)

Manny for Foltynewicz?
Jeffrey Todd
3:07
Braves can't do that.

What can the Blue Jays realistically expect in a trade for JA Happ this summer? As odd as it sounds given name recognition, is last year's Yu Darvish trade comparable? I.e. A package led by a top-50 prospect?
Jeffrey Todd
3:08
I don't think there's a huge return there. But he is really, really high up on the upcoming list.
3:10
Imagine if you're a buying team and are thinking about using one of your few T50 prospects as a trade chip. If that's the ask on Happ, are you really going for it? Darvish was an ace-level pitcher and the Dodgers had an expendable asset. Not likely to recur here.

Will a brad hand trade give the Padres a top prospect?
Jeffrey Todd
3:10
Only way he's traded. Highly valuable guy who I think will draw significant offers.

Am I finished?
Jeffrey Todd
3:11
Since this is, like, the 6th straight year we've had to ask ...
But I have no idea if he'll try to find a new home. Surely he could post up somewhere at Triple-A if he wants.

Cardinals seem stale. What’s your take on their season and what do see them doing to punch out of their mediocre play since their last title?
Jeffrey Todd
3:12
I realize you're grading on a curve. but there's nothing mediocre about the roster. It's a quality group and they are 5 over .500. Bet you'd see it differently if they had the same record in the AL Central or something.
3:13
Losing Reyes is tough, but I still think they are in it for the long haul this year. To me, the bullpen is the real area to target there. Lots of questions.

With Jordan Montgomery out for the year, do you think the Yankees go after Patrick Corbin?
Jeffrey Todd
3:13
Why don't we hold off on that narrative until the DBacks are no longer in first place, at least.

What to make of Juan Soto..? SO far, MLB is proving no challenge at 19.
Jeffrey Todd
3:14
What's amazing is that he started the year at Class A.
3:15
I had to crack up when I saw a report from Morosi that the Jays were considering moving Vlad Jr. to Triple-A at some point this month. Soto spent like two weeks at High-A and a week at Double-A before going to the majors.

Astros need to upgrade the pen for the postseason, no? Shame to let that rotation go to waste!
Jeffrey Todd
3:16
Absolutely. There's always work to be done, no matter how good the team. Lots of options to improve. Little reason not to go big. Brad Hand would fit nicely. Some other higher-end relief targets out there, too.

What can the Royals reasonably expect to get in a trade for Moose and Herrera and maybe Merifield???
Jeffrey Todd
3:17
You all are just asking previews of the top 50 list I've been working so hard on. I like Herrera as a big rental chip for sure. And I think Merrifield is a really interesting guy to dangle.
They can place a price on Whit, no need to move him. The other two ... straight auction, see what you get.

Which team won the draft in your opinion?
Jeffrey Todd
3:19
Honestly, I just get so tired of this mode of analysis. It's questionable at best in the sports where there's a near-term impact. In baseball, even in retrospect, it's rather silly.
3:20
Except in really wild situations -- the Angels' ludicrous Trout + draft, say -- you can't even just say years later that one team did better than others. Why? Because results down the line don't tell the whole story. Some guys get hurt, etc. Judging the process is impossible except for the very few people that really dive into this stuff very deeply.
