Tim Tebow rolls a first-pitch single up the middle against Matt Grace and a run comes in. This place got loud — sorta — and the inning ends with an out at third base.

do you support Tim Tebow?
Jeffrey Todd
3:12
His presence in the Mets system doesn't bother me. Seems like a good person. I have yet to see any reason he should appear in the majors.

Who wins the Rockies 2B job - Hampson or McMahon?
Jeffrey Todd
3:15
Honestly there's room on the roster for both and no reason at all that one should be an everyday guy right out of the gates, so I don't know that I'd look at it that way. Both should be given a role there and in reserve work elsewhere (corner IF).

KC needs catching help. Boston needs bullpen help. Is there any chance these two get together and trade?
Jeffrey Todd
3:16
KC GM Dayton Moore says he's happy with Gallagher and Viloria. I'm often yelled at in Twitter/comments section when I suggest something that goes against what an executive says. So ... NO WAY GMDM ALREADY SAID THEY WOULDN"T DO THAT
3:18
In actuality, though, I think there's a very good chance they land a guy on the order of a Sandy Leon. A few other players could shake loose as well (Severino from the Nats is one that comes to mind). Viloria has like 10 PAs above A ball and is really young, not sure why they wouldn't add a veteran of some kind.

Do you think the Yankees are 100% done with the free agent market this off season?
Jeffrey Todd
3:18
I think they are probably still engaged to the extent that they know their price on a very few guys and have let those agents know it.
3:19
I got yelled at just yesterday for something about the Yanks adding a starter. Because Brian Cashman said he'd looking mostly at the internal guys.
Of course he also expressly left the door open to an outside addition. And it arguably makes quite a lot of sense at the right price.

Odds Cubs will add Kimbrel or obtain a legit closer before season.
Jeffrey Todd
3:20
Umm
It wouldn't be scientifically reasonable to say zero. And I wouldn't want to say that anyway. I'll instead go with "approaching zero."
3:21
They could always surprise, etc, etc, but I am now fully convinced they were not playing coy with the whole "WE HAVE NO MONEY" thing.

Is there anyone the Giants can target on the trade market for OF help?
Jeffrey Todd
3:23
Phillies and Dodgers seem a bit overloaded. Maybe Padres but Jankowski's injury kind of ended that. Probably a few other teams have guys that'll end up being seen as roster casualties late in camp. I suspect the Giants have their eyes on a few players either as trade targets for their good veteran relievers or as DFA limbo trade/claim targets.

Is Brodie incompetent for not signing more pitching depth? Guys like Pomeranz, Buchholz, etc
Jeffrey Todd
3:24
Why would those pitchers have gone to the Mets? They were prioritizing opportunity. Mets could've promised their 5th rotation slot, I suppose, but that'd have meant bumping Vargas .... who they are already paying and is just that kind of pitcher.
3:25
There are still a few guys kicking around that look more like true depth targets ... they're probably holding out hope that an injury will open a hole. If not, sure, Mets can sign them and send them to Triple-A.
Miggy vs Pujols
3:26
A recent chat talked bout worst contract in baseball, and the host (can't remember off the top of my head which writer it was) said Cabrera. I get that he's owed more over a longer-term deal, but at least he can still hit. I think I would take that over Pujols who offers virtually nothing at this juncture
Jeffrey Todd
3:28
I believe Miggy is still owed over $200MM. Which ... that is pretty amazing. Pujols is within a couple seasons of being off the books. I'd rather just eat the 90 or whatever it is he's owed than take on the Cabrera deal, even if Miggy is still at least going to be a useful player for a while and could still have some very productive offseason campaigns left.

If the Cubs don’t have money for new free agents will they have money to keep their own players?
Jeffrey Todd
3:29
That's not really the way to look at it. How much do they have allocated for future payrolls? How much space remains? They just said they didn't have room left this year. It's arguable they should have had more room to spend this year, but they decided not to. Doesn't mean they are without space to work with in the future. (Though certainly they do have some big commitments that clog things up a bit.)

3:30
If a 26-man active roster is approved for the 2019, do you think that'll help speed up the market for the remaining free agents?
Jeffrey Todd
3:30
I think it would, to an extent, though 40-man space would remain a factor. Thought the 26-man rule was under consideration for future seasons, though, not this one.

3:31
Better chance of being a future Redsox. Boegarts or Sale?
Jeffrey Todd
3:32
I'll take Sale since we know he's legitimately interested in an extension.
Alex Cobb
3:33
How good does he have to be to have trade value?
Jeffrey Todd
3:34
Just good enough that a team wants him in its rotation. Then the money can be sorted to make it work. But the O's need some decent rotation innings and can certainly afford to let him try to rebuild value.

In hindsight, did the Padres overpay for Ian Kinsler?
Jeffrey Todd
3:35
I don't think so. He's still awfully cheap. I know he's older but he has had some good offensive seasons recently and can still pick it. Think the cost was the same the Nats spent on Kendrick pre-'18. I know Josh Harrison is younger and more versatile, and went for less, but I can definitely see preferring Kinsler and being willing to pay a bit more for him.

Would you agree with this idea

"It is fairly easy to trade for any player you want.

The difficult part is being willing to give up what you have to in order to make the trade happen"
Jeffrey Todd
3:37
No I don't really think that makes sense. There are probably a fair number of players that teams will not part with unless some crazy asking price is met. So I'm not sure how that's a helpful way to view things.

With mock drafts having Kyler Murray going #1 overall - no chance he comes back to baseball right?
