It's chat time!  Let's dive into some questions
Mr. Padre
9:32
Any more moves in the board from Preller?
Mark P
9:33
By this point, we might have seen much of the real heavy offseason lifting done, so any further Padres deals might be relatively minor (a reliever, a part-time player, etc.)
Can't rule out something truly big like a Kris Bryant swap or something, but the odds are slim at this point
Cubs
9:33
Over/under 85 wins for us in 2020?

Will Joc Pederson open the season with the Dodgers? They still have one too many utility players
Mark P
9:36
I'd love to know the details on why exactly the Pederson/Stripling deal to the Angels fell apart, or if it could potentially be revived in some form.  Keeping Stripling wouldn't be a bad move for LA since I've always thought he was a bit of an untapped resource, but Pederson does indeed seem like kind of a spare part.

I wonder how many other teams have quickly leapt in to make some Pederson/Stripling offers to the Dodgers over the last week
Mommy
9:37
Kolten wong extension?
Mark P
9:38
Not sure if that's something on the front burner for the Cardinals, since Wong's current deal keeps him under team control through 2021 (via a club option)
GSon
9:38
Any rumblings out of Goodyear regarding the Clevinger injury and a possible revisting of a Lindor deal with either the Reds or Braves?
Mark P
9:39
Nothing on Lindor, and by this point I'd be quite surprised to see him dealt until we're closer to the trade deadline (and maybe not even then)
Clevinger's timeline is 6-to-8 weeks, which is actually a relief given how serious the initial news was
Ross Atkins
9:40
Do i need to add anything to be a wild card contender this year?
Mark P
9:41
Well, Jays GM Ross Atkins, in general the biggest question facing the Jays isn't what they need to add, but what they'll get from the current names on the roster.  If the young guys like Guerrero, Bichette, Biggio, etc. start producing up to their expected levels early, Toronto could be more of a darkhorse contender than we think
Freddie
9:42
I understand keeping Stanton healthy- but isnt the “A” lineup him if left and Andujar at DH?
Mark P
9:43
Like most teams, the Yankees wants to have as much lineup flexibility as possible.  They'll obviously make every effort to keep everyone healthy, plus in Andujar's case, using him in left field is a way of trying to find him a long-term position
Andrew
9:43
Can Verlander and Scherzer have another dominant year before age catches up?
Mark P
9:43
I don't see why not
Chris
9:44
Do the Brewers have the interest or the ammo to make a run for Arenado?
Mark P
9:44
I don't think the Brewers are willing to take on that big a salary, nor would the Rockies be willing to eat much (any?) or Arenado's contract to accommodate a trade
Los Bravos
9:45
Why do the media types always undervalue us? Because we always lose in the playoffs? We don't understand.
Mark P
9:45
Who's underrating the Braves?  Every single thing I've seen about the NL East regards them as the favorites
Rob
9:47
will loudes gurriel’s bat play in a corner outfield spot long term or should the jays try to shop him now after a successful season?
Mark P
9:48
Gurriel's bat has looked very promising for much of his brief MLB career.  His problems have been defense (though the move to LF seems to have worked) and staying healthy
Theo
9:48
Serious question, why on earth would anyone pick the Cubs to win under 85 games?
Mark P
9:49
The Reds will be better, the Cardinals and Brewers will both still be good, and the Cubs only won 84 games last year
Andre Dawson
9:49
Will the cubs be Extreme sellers at deadline?
Mark P
9:51
Now I'm picturing Theo Epstein in a neon t-shirt and doing skateboard tricks.

In general, the Cubs don't seem willing (or able?) to make a truly drastic overhaul.  For two offseasons in a row now, they've been hinting at some major changes in store, only to do little in the way of real roster renovation.  If they totally fall apart, I guess things could change by the deadline, but there's enough talent on this team that I can see them still wanting to just reload for 2021
Reds
9:52
Would the Cubs ever make an in division trade to the Reds?  Contreras and orhers for Senzel and Barnhart?
Mark P
9:53
I think the Reds might be the one needed to send the "others" along in that deal, but it's not an outlandish proposal.

Some teams are pretty strict about not dealing within their division, others aren't.  I suppose it would ultimately depend on what is being moved.  Given Cubs' fans low opinion of the team right now, moving a star like Contreras to a division rival wouldn't go over well
Seattle
9:54
Perderson and stripling would be perfect fits for The mariners we need something to root for besides losing as many games as possible
Mark P
9:55
Since we don't know what else the Angels were going to send to the Dodgers, it's hard to project what another team might need to offer L.A. for those players.  In Seattle's case, it might be pure salary relief, but I don't think Pederson's $7.75MM isn't all that onerous

9:55
Will the Yankees place German right back into the rotation after the suspension or do you see the Yanks moving him?
Mark P
9:56
Probably a relief role, but it'll depend on how the rest of the rotation is faring.  As for a trade, I don't see any team lining up to acquire a guy coming off that kind of suspension.
HI
9:56
thoughts on new proposed post-season changes?
Mark P
9:57
Not a fan.  It cheapens the regular season to play 162 games and only eliminate 16 of 30 teams.
Joshua
9:57
I think the Nats would be smart to trade Anibal Sanchez for some prospects. I say this because although it is nice to have him as a #4 SP, he is a luxury and Voth and Ross could hold down the #4 and #5 spots in that rotation with Fedde starting if injuries occur. What do you think he could bring back in return? Seems to me the Angels, Padres, and maybe Toronto could be after a player like him. Thoughts?
Mark P
9:58
The trouble is, none of Voth/Ross/Fedde are exactly proven commodities, so having them even as your competition for a fifth starter's role is kind of shaky.  If I'm the Nationals, I'm definitely keeping Anibal....can't have enough pitching
Matt
9:58
Cards fan are upset with the lack of spending this off-season but given their recent track record of big spending (fowler, leake, cecil) should they be?
