Welcome to the Sunday chat!  Let's dive into the questions...
Mr met
6:52
I don't understand people saying the mets messed up by not getting Realmuto. He is clearly ready to draw out this process, and if he ended up signing elsewhere late in FA, mets would have no catching options. Better to lock up the #2 option (McCann) than risk not getting either right? Also leaves money for other moves (Springer, Arenado, etc)
Mark P
6:54
I can understand both sides of the argument.  You lay out the Mets' side of things well, and the "why didn't they get Realmuto" talk will die down when/if they acquire Springer, Bauer, etc.

On the other hand, I can also see why some naturally feel Realmuto should've been the far and away #1 target, whether it's because he is the best catcher in the sport, or out of doubts over giving McCann four years.

The Reds, Cubs, Cardinals and Brewers have all indicated to varying degrees that they won’t be spending this winter. Won’t somebody in the NL Central see an opportunity for the taking?
Mark P
6:55
It's the Pirates' time to shine, baby!

On a more serious note, the lack of spending throughout the division might act as a disincentive.  If you're the Cardinals, for instance, you might say "well, we can maybe hold back on our spending since it's not like the other rivals are doing anything big."

What would it take for Boston to get Luis Castillo with Moustakas part of the deal?
Mark P
6:58
I would imagine that the Reds would only deal Castillo if another team offers to entirely absorb one of their other big contracts (Castellanos, Moose, maybe Suarez, and I won't say Votto due to his no-trade clause).  If you're one of the few teams with money to spend this winter, I'm definitely on the phone with Cincy exploring options.
6:59
The Reds won't give away Castillo for only salary relief, however.  They'd still want good prospects back, and in Boston's case, Jeter Downs would seem like a natural ask.

Angels not acquiring a top ss this year so they can save up for a top notch ss next year?? Makes sense with pujols contract up right ?
Mark P
7:00
It does indeed.  That Iglesias trade may be a canny move for the Angels, even if Iglesias reverts to his old glove-first performance level
Curious

Does the season start on time?
Mark P
7:01
At this point I'm leaning towards no.  My guess is everything is delayed 2-4 weeks, with games being postponed (or folded into seven-inning doubleheaders) or maybe canceled outright
Madden
7:03
bad Upton contract for a bad SP contract
Mark P
7:03
Upton has a no-trade clause, which complicates such a sensible move
Graham
7:04
Could we see a drastic change in prospect value over the next 12 months? We haven't seen these guys in so long that some are gonna be huge risers while others will fall hard.
Mark P
7:06
When discussing the Iglesias trade, GM Mike Elias noted that the Orioles felt comfortable with the deal because they'd scouted that prospect themselves the year prior, since they were thinking about drafting him.

So you could see more types of deals like that, where clubs are only willing to accept some prospects that they have at least some recent information on.
Arenado or Arenadon’t
7:06
Going into last offseason, the Cards biggest concern was Arenado opting out, and giving up too much for that level of uncertainty.  Wouldn’t you think, similar to Stanton, Arenado would take the guaranteed money, with the financial implications from last year?  What do you think gets the deal
Mark P
7:08
I could see a scenario where, if the Rockies are close on an Arenado trade, the other team asks to speak with Arenado directly to see renegotiate that opt-out.  Maybe even to delay it by a year, so Arenado can get a fuller idea of his new team and has a better idea of the financial landscape post-pandemic and under the new CBA.
You'd think Arenado would have some interest in such an arrangement, since it would eliminate some of the uncertainty on his end as well (and maybe hasten an exit out of Colorado)

Castillo for Frazier, Gil and Schmidt.
Mark P
7:10
Like I said, the Reds almost surely aren't moving Castillo unless they can attach a big contract to him.  They have no financial incentive to move Castillo any time soon.
Mark
7:11
What can the Rangers get for an Odor or Andrus trade? Besides an large soda, nachos, and crackerjacks.
Mark P
7:11
It'd have to be some kind of a bad contract swap.  I can't see many (or any) teams having much interest in either struggling player at those prices.
John
7:12
Orioles trade Cobb?
Mark P
7:13
I'm sure they're open to it, but Mike Elias implied the other day that the likeliest scenario is that Cobb at least opens the year with the team.

Favorite pick for Cleveland's new team nickname?
Mark P
7:15
I really like Spiders, that'd be a fun throwback.  Get a logo with a cartoon spider wearing eight gloves, call up Marvel for some marketing tie-ins....the ideas write themselves!
Dave
7:17
Hi! When will the big names sign?  Any new predictions?
Mark P
7:18
Still hard to say.  It only takes one signing to break the logjam, potentially.  Maybe one of the top free agents wants to get things figured out before Xmas, who knows.

Any news on interested teams for Jon Lester? If Lester goes back to Cubs, what’s the deal look like?
Mark P
7:20
The Giants are the only team known to have interest in Lester, but the Cubs are surely still on the periphery.  I'd imagine Lester wouldn't cost any more than $5MM or so for a one-year deal.
Faraz
7:20
Do you think Suarez to the Nationals will happen or is it just rumors?
Mark P
7:21
It would make a lot of sense for the Nats, since while they're a team that might not have a lot of spending space this winter, theoretically Suarez's deal isn't so expensive ($45.5MM through 2024) that it couldn't be taken on.
Buster Posey
7:23
I become a free agent after 2021. could I get a multi year contract for 2022 and beyond?
Mark P
7:24
Posey would need a big bounce-back year to merit such a deal, whether it's from the Giants (who have Bart in the wings) or another team
Astros
7:24
Benintendi for Forrest Whitley both have had struggles and injury’s, maybe change of scenery types?
Mark P
7:25
There would have to be more to such a trade than just a straight one-for-one.  Benintendi has at least had some success at the MLB level, whereas Whitley is a total wild card

7:26
Since Alex A. doesn't like long term contracts, would a 2 year 42 mil deal with a team option for 2023 at 22 mil get it done for Ozuna?
Mark P
7:26
Unless Ozuna's market is a lot thinner than we think, I don't think he's taking such an offer.  Ozuna took the short-term deal last winter, but now you'd think he wants to really cash in.

question, if the stats from the negro leauges are being added to the mlb, and Hank Aaron had 22 hone runs in his 1 season there, would that recrown him as the All Time home run king?
