It's Sunday evening, time for some chatting!

Do you think the Cubs would trade Hendricks?
Mark P
7:11
Hendricks is owed $43.5MM through 2023, plus there's a vesting option for 2024.  So a fairly hefty amount of money, and one that Chicago might like to have off its books if they are either pursuing a major payroll reduction or are quietly beginning a rebuild.

But overall, I'd lean against a Hendricks deal.  With Darvish now gone, the Cubs see Hendricks as the veteran ace of their staff.

Where do you see Springer landing, and at what price?
Mark P
7:12
If the Lindor trade takes Springer out of the equation for the Mets, then it would seem like Toronto is his top (and only?) option to get a big five-year deal in anything close to his desired price range.  That said, I don't think the Mets should be out on Springer.

Could Angels be acquiring both C Wilson Contreas and a starting pitcher from Cubs?
Mark P
7:13
It's possible, though after moving Darvish, I'm not sure what other arms the Cubs would want to move.  Maybe flipping Davies is a possibility, though I kind of doubt LAA fans would see Davies as that much of a rotation upgrade.

Things seem quiet on Musgrove, do you think he’ll get dealt before Spring Training?
Mark P
7:14
I'd be pretty surprised if Musgrove is still with the Bucs on Opening Day, but maybe a deal is swung during Spring Training rather than before.  Carrasco being traded threw another wrinkle into the pitching market, so maybe that adjusts things

Will the reds sign one of Semien, Gregorius, or Simmons?
Mark P
7:17
I guess we can't rule anything out in this weird offseason, but it still feels like Semien and Gregorius will get multi-year deals.  That could be too rich for Cincinnati's blood if the Reds are trying to keep payroll in check.  Simmons is the likeliest of the three to get a one-year deal, so by that logic alone, I'd say he might be the clearest Reds target.  That said, there hasn't been anything linking the Reds to Simmons, as I can recall

Nats platoon schwarber or does he play everyday?
Mark P
7:18
Probably playing more or less every day, maybe the occasional sit against a tough lefty (with Harrison playing left field).
Alex Cora
7:19
Where will andrew B end up ,and who will sox sign to be 3rd outfielder
Mark P
7:20
Between the Dombrowski connection and the Phils' need in center field, I'm throwing out Philadelphia as a potential trade partner for Benintendi, but that is just speculation on my part.

tigers can do better than this in free agency, can’t they?  Very disheartening.
Mark P
7:22
I've made this point before about the Tigers, but since they don't yet know if *any* of their young pitchers will end up being solid MLB contributors, it's maybe a little too early for them to be making any truly big signings.
Robbie Grossman isn't a bad addition by any means, but that's about the level of signing you can expect from Detroit for the rest of the winter, barring something unexpected
"This is what you can expect, barring the unexpected"

Great analysis, Mark!

Is it realistic to think that Ramirez and Bieber are gonna be shipped out this off-season too?
Mark P
7:24
Bieber no, because he is still a year away from even being arbitration-eligible and is thus an incredible bargain for Cleveland.  As for Ramirez, I'm also leaning towards no, but we can't entirely rule out the possibility.

Needless to say, Cleveland would get an absolute haul back in a trade for either Ramirez or Bieber.

Jays DJ... Jays Springer... Jays Bauer... Let's get a hard hitting question! Pineapple on your Pizza?
Mark P
7:25
I'm not a big fan of pineapple on or off pizza
Nervous Blue Jays Fan
7:26
Are the Blue Jays actually going to sign someone or trade for someone of significance or is all this talk about being "aggressive" not serious?
Mark P
7:28
Keep in mind that Ryu wasn't signed until late December 2019, so it's not like the Jays were striking early and often last winter.  In fact, I recall a lot of the same concerns from Jays fans --- the team seemed to be in on everyone but landing no one, but Ryu changed the narrative.

If we hit February 10 and the Blue Jays still haven't made any major adds, I'll start to get a little more worried.  That said, the way this offseason is going, maybe DJ, Realmuto, Springer, etc. will all still be unsigned by then.

I know Cardinals say they aren't spending but Springer makes a lot of sense there. Provides needed offense and lead off batter. Can move to a corner when Fowler contract is up. Thoughts?
Mark P
7:31
That would be a big surprise, since the Cards have been quiet about doing anything this offseason.

Gallo mentioned in an article the other day that he saw himself playing his entire career in Texas. Any chance we see an extension this year?
Mark P
7:32
Interesting, as Gallo's name has emerged in trade rumors: https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2020/12/al-notes-gallo-rays-angels.html
7:33
Trading him while his value is a little low might not be beneficial to the Rangers, but perhaps this might be the time for them to extend him if they feel his 2020 was an aberration

Is the uncertainty around COVID situation/impacts having any influence on Free Agents not wanting to sign in Toronto?
Mark P
7:34
That's certainly part of it, quite possibly the biggest part of it.  The Jays are the only team that doesn't know where they'll be playing in 2021, and any free agent would naturally want some certainty on that front.
7:35
That said, if you're a player who lives in Florida (specifically near Dunedin), maybe the thought of a season spent at the Jays' Spring Training facility is very amendable

7:35
What are your thoughts on the numbers in the Tatis extension rumors? I’m assuming it will be backloaded with an opt out at some point right?
Fernando Tatis Jr
7:35
11 years $320 million. Should I say yes?
Mark P
7:37
That's an incredible amount of money to turn down, so if the Padres actually have that offer on the table, I have to imagine Tatis accepts.  There are certainly some kind of opt-outs (maybe multiple opt-outs) involved, but if I'm Tatis, I take that deal.

Are Joc Pederson and Eddie Rosario realistic under-30 options for the Seattle Mariners in left field? Or should the Mariners try to return 33-year-old Michael Brantley to his birthplace?
Mark P
7:38
Any of those players would make sense, though I suspect Brantley would want to (and will) sign a more clear-cut contender.
Fergie
7:39
Hand ends up with the White Sox?
Mark P
7:39
He'd be a great fit, have to imagine they've had some talks with his camp if they've also been in on Hendriks and other top relievers
