Welcome! Let's get this chat started.

Am I gone after bobble head night?
AvatarJason Martinez
4:33
You got the Jered Weaver treatment. DL stint instead of release because you've earned the respect.
Jarod
4:33
When are the A's going to bring up Jaycob Brugman?
AvatarJason Martinez
4:34
He got a late start to the season (due to injury, I assume) and Rajai Davis might have saved his job for now with 4 hits yesterday. But I'm guessing he'll get a chance by mid-season. Numbers in AAA have been excellent.

Do you think the Rockies can sustain their playoff push throughout the year?
AvatarJason Martinez
4:36
Yes. I've been saying since early on that they needed another SP who can help carry the load down the stretch. If Chad Bettis returns cancer-free and back to full strength in August, he could be that guy. I'd expect the Rockies to target a reliable mid-rotation veteran starter next month in any case.

When does Meadows come up?

Ian

At this point, does anyone even want Kelvin Herrera?
AvatarJason Martinez
4:39
Sure, the question is whether anyone would offer the Royals anything worthwhile enough before the trade deadline. If not, the Royals would be better off waiting/hoping for his value to rise.

We are seeing the pop from Renfroe. Do you think his average will catch up as he figures out the league, or do you see him as a sub-.250 type hitter?
AvatarJason Martinez
4:41
I see him as a .230-.260 guy with 30+ HRs. I imagine that he'll still have his highs and lows this season, but it's a very good sign that he's adjusted after a slow start.
Rocky Mountain High
4:42
Any idea what will happen with the Rockies OF when David Dahl is ready? CarGo traded?
AvatarJason Martinez
4:44
If everyone is healthy, I think Dahl goes back to the minors. No reason for him to be the 5th OF when he can be getting at-bats in AAA. Only other non-injury scenario is that Reynolds or Desmond moves to the bench if they're in a deep slump when Dahl is ready to return.

Giants deal Strickland at the deadline after the trade for Dyson?
AvatarJason Martinez
4:45
I think he'll be one of several players on the trade block. Dyson would also be available, assuming he bounces back at least somewhat.
Ethan
4:46
What's ur thoughts on Sam Dyson to the hints and what impact will r make
AvatarJason Martinez
4:46
Low leverage role for a few weeks. If all goes well, Giants could use him in 8th inning setupe role and showcase him for a trade. He was very good last year. Change of scenery can help.
Ian
4:48
Wil Tanaka get the Weaver/Bartolo treatment if this happens again. His HR/9 is well over 2.
AvatarJason Martinez
4:49
Only difference would be that the Yankees would really need Tanaka to get straightened out because they need him. But yes, I suggested a possible DL stint in this week's Knocking Down The Door in mentioning Chance Adams' path to the majors. I don't trust that a guy who had (has?) a partial tear in his elbow ligament can stay healthy.

Over/under 5 walks for Newcomb in his debut? Will he ever get his command under control?
AvatarJason Martinez
4:51
He's had 3 BB or less in 4 of his 11 AAA starts. Pretty good sign. I'll go with the "under" for his debut because he will be focused, but that could come and go from start to start.

Do the Jays see what Leblebijian can do in the bigs anytime soon?
AvatarJason Martinez
4:53
At some point, yes. Don't know about his defense. Plays mostly 3B and 2B. How good of a defender he is important in that decision. I guess now would be a decent time to give him a look while Devon Travis is on the DL. The Jays might be comfortable with Goins/Barney, though.

4:54
Has Jeff Hoffman done enough to keep a spot in the rotation?
AvatarJason Martinez
4:55
Yes. Saw him pitch on Sunday. Looked like what you'd expect from a guy who was the 9th overall pick in the draft and a former No. 1 prospect. Might be time to give one of the other rookies a break. Jon Gray also due back soon.
CJ
4:56
Will we see Indians Mejia in the bigs anytime soon?
AvatarJason Martinez
4:57
Nope. I'd guess early 2019. Maybe 2nd half of next season. Catcher is an important job. Doesn't matter how good of a hitter he is if he's not ready to handle a big league staff. He's only 21 years old.

What is the Cubs' best option for the Kyle Schwarber problem?
AvatarJason Martinez
4:59
Since no other team in the division took advantage of the Cubs' struggles, they can afford to be patient and let a guy like Schwarber work his way out of it. I can see him getting optioned to AAA, though, if he doesn't turn things around soon. That would allow more ABs for guys like Jay, Almora, etc.

If the Tigers sell at the deadline, is there any chance they send away their big contracts in order to extend JD Martinez?
AvatarJason Martinez
5:01
I think Martinez would be a valuable trade chip and easiest to deal out of the players they'd be willing to trade. Trading the guys who are due a lot of $ won't be so easy to trade at the deadline. Don't think the Tigers would be counting on trading away $ and being able to negotiate with JD before 7/31.

How far behind are the Philliesin their rebuild compared to where many, including myself, thought they were a year ago??
AvatarJason Martinez
5:04
I don't think their struggles this season have changed anything. I think the plan was to add some veterans this season with some hope that they'd contend. But, realistically, they're looking ahead to 2018. The veterans were brought in so they could be patient with their prospects. They're expected to be big players in free agency after the season.

When will Lewis Brinson get his shot in the MLB?
AvatarJason Martinez
5:06
If they're unable to trade Braun, which will be difficult due to injury and no-trade clause, I don't see where he'd play right now. Broxton and Santana have been productive. It's a good problem to have.
