Will Peter Bourjos finally get an everyday chance in Philly?
Jeffrey Todd
2:34
The OF is looking thin, so he'll have a chance to earn a regular role, sure. Should be fun to watch.

How's the Magic 8-ball working?? "Unclear" "I doubt it".. Waiting for "Reply hazy. Please try again!" LOL
Jeffrey Todd
2:34
I'm a lawyer by trade, naturally non-commital.
Casey S.
2:34
Mets having a "meh" spring so far. Should I be concerned?
Jeffrey Todd
2:34
Nah
Hoyce
2:35
Votto to Astros at break?? Any chance? Altuve, votto, correa ... That's dangerous. And the Astros have all the prospects the Reds could want. And Astros have the money
Jeffrey Todd
2:35
Bear in mind: no trade clause. And he's still really expensive. It would be fascinating to see how what a Votto deal would look like, but I find it unlikely as things stand.
Jordan Leavitt
2:36
With all the power on the Baltimore power, who do they hit in?
Jeffrey Todd
2:36
Nothing wrong with a nice solo stroll around the bases.
Michael
2:36
I liked the Ruben Tejada signing, did you?
Jeffrey Todd
2:36
Yeah, shore things up now and have a utility piece and backup plan for Peralta. Made good sense from the moment he went down.
Chicago
2:37
Cubs line up best for Sonny Gray?
Jeffrey Todd
2:37
Maybe ... after the A's, who are not going to trade him this spring and probably won't this summer.
Michael
2:37
Would you rather have signed Ruben Tejada or went with Aledmys Diaz?
Jeffrey Todd
2:37
Both, which is what they got by signing Tejada. Still have Diaz on hand.
Jordan Leavitt
2:38
Mariners trade Steve Clevenger for Yoervis Medina?
Jeffrey Todd
2:38
Most exciting chat trade proposal ever?!
Jared
2:38
Do the Twins go with Suzuki or Murphy?
Jeffrey Todd
2:39
Both, with hopes that Murphy gradually takes over the primary job. I bet 'Zuki ends up with at least half the time logged when it's all said and done.

Why are so many teams opposed to dealing their top prospects for top players? A proven top 20 pre-arb MLB starter has more value than 2 top 20 prospects because the prospects are unproven and many go through growing pains when transitioning to the MLB and some don't produce at that level at all.
Jeffrey Todd
2:40
That's probably true, but a) not many teams have two top-20 prospects; b) not many teams with top-20 pre-arb starters are willing to move them for that return.
Point being: what if it's really about teams with the trade chips not valuing prospects of other teams that highly?

Hey Todd, love your work here on MLBTR. How many games do the Red Sox win the AL East by?
Jeffrey Todd
2:41
Hey man! I don't know, but I'll post your prediction if you make one.

chances reds trade brandon phillips
Jeffrey Todd
2:42
He seemingly nixed every scenario that was brought to him this winter, so unless that changes, basically none.
Brendan
2:42
Can the Mets expect their rotation to be as good as it was last year?
Jeffrey Todd
2:43
No, probably not. I'm worried about the innings load, honestly. But they can still reasonably anticipate it will be one of the better units in baseball and hope for more.
2:44
Even some downgrade in performance would leave that staff looking quite good. They have Wheeler on the comeback trail, too.
Mackenzie
2:44
What do you think of the competition between Travis Shaw and Pablo Sandoval to be the Red Sox everyday third base and who should be the opening day starter for the Boston Red Sox?
Jeffrey Todd
2:45
It's easy to get excited about spring stats, but you have to give Pablo a chance to fail. He has the track record, and, yes, the contract. It's not like Shaw is a can't-miss prospect, so I think you let him go to Triple-A and hopefully rake, then keep an open mind as the season progresses.
You have to wonder whether the supposed open competition is, in part, intended to help motivate Panda.

2:46
If you were me, would you be able to live with letting Bautista and EE walk?
Jeffrey Todd
2:46
Absolutely. They are both aging sluggers. It sucks to be a fan and see your favorite players leave, but front office guys have to balance the legitimate organizational interest in keeping stars with the also-legitimate interest in making wise decisions for the long run.
2:47
If they can't get a deal done at a price they find reasonable, I expect they'll say they tried their best and deal with the fallout, while telling fans that their primary motivation is a winning team.
(And profit, of course ... these are businesses ... though they won't mention that part, probably.)

2:47
Will the A's sign Reddick to a deal before season starts ?
Jeffrey Todd
2:48
My guess is no. He's got enough contract upside in FA that I don't think the price will be right.

Who has the greatest trade value in baseball ?
