I can't envision Valencia getting to them on waivers. He'd have to clear every American League club and a bunch of contending NL clubs to get to him. He'd probably love it, as a former Hurricane, but it's not happening this month.

I don't really see how they can just stick with the status quo in the bullpen. They'll have to add a reliever, if not two. That was probably true even before Maness and Rosenthal hit the DL and it's all the more evident now.

It's not just the Miller trade, it's the bizarre pride they take in effectively broadcasting that they're "old-school" and a "traditional, real baseball team," which just sounds to me like they're behind the times.

And seriously, if Stewart genuinely believed that Touki Toussaint's value is whatever they paid him for his draft bonus, he should've been relieved of his duties about five minutes after making that comment.

Holy moley would I run the other way if I were the Orioles and that's what Tillman's camp asked for.

For one thing, Tillman isn't going to reach or even approach $15MM in arbitration this season, so 15 for his final arb is unnecessary. Moreover, though, the only thing that's especially appealing about him is his ERA (and I guess won-loss record, if you're into that). He's average or worse in terms of strikeout rate, walk rate, ground-ball rate, velocity, etc.

If they're willing to take his arb season for around $10MM and three free agent years around $15-16MM, maybe go for it, but I'm sure his agents would find that way too light. I wouldn't go beyond paying him like an Ervin Santana type of starter though, because that's all he is to me.

What's the deal with Suzuki? There doesn't seem to be much interest even though he would be an upgrade for at least a few teams in playoff contention.

He's not a great defensive catcher, so there's that. But beyond that I'm really not sure. He'd be an upgrade for the Indians, the Mets and probably several other contenders -- even just as a backup. With him clearing waivers, he'll probably move up to the top of this week's Top 20 Trade Candidates list.

I'd be surprised if he's not. There was almost no talk about him being traded prior to the non-waiver deadline, which was really weird to me, but if he wasn't being heavily marketed then I'm sure he's not now.

If they have, it hasn't been reported. But Sabathia and Ellsbury are 100% locks to clear, and I'd imagine Gardner would clear too, even though his contract is fine. It's a lot of money to claim this time of year.
