Any of that talk would have to come in the offseason, but I don't see it from Boston's end. Velasquez has been an injury concern for years (hence Houston's willingness to trade him), and he's been hurt at various points this season. Plus, more control with Benintendi.

There may be NO choice - but think the Mets stay pat. They look like they will miss the playoffs even with the weak schedule coming up and reinforcements on their way.

It's a good winter to try to buy low on guys. Charlie Morton makes sense with the Royals' defensive skills. Cashner maybe. The thing to be excited about in KC is how ridiculously good Danny Duffy looks, though.

They might try it, but no real reason for the Tigers to be overly willing to give him up unless they're getting MLB value in exchange.

I don't. He'll clear waivers. Maybe if they eat a bunch of money just to dump the contract. But even with his recent "hot streak" (read: four really wobbly outings that were technically "quality starts" prior to today), he still hasn't looked good.

From a logical standpoint, sure, but that's not really how the Tigers have operated in recent years. Ilitch is probably the most aggressive owner in baseball and is perpetually in "go for it" mode. Trading V-Mart doesn't really mesh with that.

Lots of talk about trading for him, so I guess there's interest, but my initial instinct was that he was an obvious guy to get released. I'm still kind of leaning that way, honestly. Taking on the $2.25MM or whatever he's left at this point isn't as trivial as it seems with only a few weeks left in the year.

For sure. SI reported that he's been nursing a shoulder injury, he missed five days with a sore neck ... hasn't played well for months. Something seems physically off there... doesn't seem right to me. That's nothing but speculation of course.

We found a taker for Olivera. Do we have enough voodoo to move Aybar,Johnson or Markakis?

Aybar is just a release candidate. Johnson's not moving (pulled back off trade waivers). Markakis... sure, eat $11MM once he clears waivers and someone will take him as a glorified David DeJesus (circa 2013-14).
