It's been reported that Thornton will decide based on Marleau's decision. I don't see Marleau leaving the franchise.

It's definitely based on it, but whether that means he'll follow Marleau or not is unclear.
For what it's worth, I've said for a while I think it gets done between Marleau and the Sharks.

Seems like Carolina have a glut of shifty/skill wingers and lack size/grit up front. Maybe bringing in a guy like Hartnell for some 3rd line depth and swapping Skinner for E. Kane might give them a more balanced forward corps?

They won't be moving Skinner, especially not for a guy with one year left.
But adding some size isn't a terrible idea.

They have options. If a center looks interesting to them--Thornton, Bonino maybe--they can keep Rakell on the wing.
Otherwise, they could add on the wing and move him back.
Keeping Eaves was the big move though.

So how screwed are the Oilers going to be in a few years when they have McDavid and Draisaitl on the books for roughly $22 million a year? Lol. Sekera's deal is looking pretty tough right now. Lots of UFAs and RFAs coming up that need to be signed, like Maroon and so on...

So, here's the thing. Friedman explained how it can work for them, and I believe it can. But I really don't understand giving him the 8 years that ratchet up the cap hit.

If you give him five, and take him to free agency he doesn't have the leverage for a $13MM hit. That still gives you a six-year window to win, before risking him walking for nothing.
But at that point, you can offer him a max deal and be almost in the same situation, but for longer.
But you already had six years of room to build a better team.

In the beginning of the chat you mentioned a rumor for Price's next contract to be $10mil AAV. What are your thoughts on that rumor? He is an unbelievable goaltender but can you spend that much on a guy that doesn't play every game even if healthy all year?

Thoughts on Girardi to Tampa??   I know he doesn't grade out well but he's a veteran who'll play on the 3rd pair and keeps Stevie from overpaying for Shatty.
