Not a ton on the Ducks recently. I think we talked about this last week, but watch out for Larsson as a contributor this year at some point.

But in reality, they did sign Mike Cammalleri. He is a pretty excellent offensive piece for really cheap.

One-year arbitration around $4.9...traded at the deadline.
I'm obviously not in the negotiating room, but it seems like he's destined for UFA next summer.
Detroit can't let him walk for nothing.

It actually seems a bit high to be honest, but everyone, including Parayko knows how his value has skyrocketed recently.

I think it'll be a huge steal in a few years, I'm just kind of surprised he got $5.5MM only buying out two UFA years.

Ignoring this past year, the last three Hobey Baker winners have been Goudreau, Eichel, and Vesey. Hobey Baker has normally not been any indicator of NHL success. Has something changed?

To be honest though, it's partly because of the way NCAA hockey has improved over the past decade.

There was once a huge gap in talent from the best to the worst, and older players who didn't have much of a future career would prey on those matchups.
Teams are so much deeper now, that the real exceptional talents are the ones who outperform the crowd.

The other thing is a shift for coaches to give opportunity to younger players.
College hockey, like every NCAA sport used to be about paying your dues.

Now, players who are only there for one year get PP1 time and top line minutes.
That said, the next five Hobey Baker winners could never play in the league for all I know.

I do think that. Going back to our talk on possession statistics above, Winnik has been an elite defensive forward in the past.

He'll find a home somewhere and be a solid contributor, there are just so many teams that look like they want to fill their bottom six with youth now, instead of a traditional checking group.

I still have a hard time believing he'll start the year in Colorado, but it's definitely a possibility.

Bad timing for Detroit that they're opening a new building as they are going into a rebuild. Toronto, Montreal, Chicago and other well traveling fans will love the new arena.
