Isn't it telling that Ben has talked about retirement and then yesterday, says he is not sure if he has it anymore.  It appears to me that he lacks the focus or the desire to play anymore.
Ray Fittipaldo
12:44
I think Roethlisberger was deflecting that question. He doesn't really think he's lost it.
MDB
12:44
Is it too early to say that the Villeneava contract was a mistake?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:44
Yes too early, but he hasn't pass protected well enough.

12:44
Ray if Tomlin was to bench Villanueva would the media over blow it that it has something to do with the protest and not his play? He is terrible on the OL
Ray Fittipaldo
12:45
Who would you replace him with? Chris Hubbard. In case you didn't notice Hubbard didn't play much better yesterday.
Anthony
12:45
I still question offensive game plan. Jacksonville has worst rushing defense in the league. Why not run the ball more. What is your evaluation of Todd Haley?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:45
He's had better five-game stretches, that's for sure.
Robert
12:46
Before considering lack of execution, it seems to me the offensive game plan was either flawed or Ben checked out of runs too often. Which is it and how does it get fixed?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:46
I can't tell you how many runs he checked out of, but I think it happened at least once when they were on the 5.

Everyone should stop considering the Steelers a Super Bowl contender.  They're not.  Might not even be a playoff contender.
Ray Fittipaldo
12:47
Who's to argue that after performance yesterday? But things can change quickly in the NFL. The Steelers were 4-5 after nine games last season and made it to the AFC championship game.
Mark from Sauquoit N.Y.
12:47
Maybe if they scored TD' s in Red zone in beginning they would win. Can't call 3 passes at the 5. Sick of it.
Ray Fittipaldo
12:47
Yes I wrote about this after the game.

Start Landry Jones.
Ray Fittipaldo
12:48
I knew this was coming this week.

Year after year I promise myself I will not buy into the local media’s pre season Super Bowl hype. Year after year I succumb to the temptation. Struggling to find any inkling the offense can work as a team, fix all that is broken. What are you selling now to keep fans onboard, Ray?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:50
Not selling anything and I can tell you I picked a Patriots_Packers Super Bowl. I picked the Steelers to make the playoffs but only because the AFC North stinks. That still could happen. But not everybody in the local media picked the Steelers to make it to the Super Bowl.

Really seems they're missing Gilbert, any idea when he'll be back?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:50
He went through a full practice the past two Wednesdays but was either limited or did not practice Thursdays and Fridays. Maybe there have been setbacks or that hamstring just isn't 100 percent healed.

I predicted before the game that the Jags would put 15 men in the box and dare Big Ben to win it with his arm .... and he wouldn't. The Jags were playing 1 deep safety and Big Ben jjust stunk the joint up. Am I right?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:51
He said it after the game. He has to play better.
SteelMan
12:52
WHY OH WHY are you worried about deep passes?? There is not one defense afraid of Pittsburgh going deep. The offensive line can't keep pressure off of the QB or open holes for the run game. No run game and no protection means they can get pressure with 4 man rush and set 7 in coverage. Until the offense establishes a run game going deep won't help. In the lasdt 2 minutes of the first half even my dog knew they would throw deep incomplete again on first done.

We won a SB with a struggling Big Ben remember his 1st one! But we had a helluva play caller! Your thoughts?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:53
So you want Ken Whiusenhunt back? You know TOdd Haley worked for him, right?
Bobby B
12:53
Think we can get anything for trading one of our WRs to the Giants? Bryant isn't providing much and we most likely won't be with the team in 2 years when his contact is up.  Or maybe Hunter?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:53
What would you get in return to help this team. I think the answers are in that locker room and they have to figure it out among themselves.
John Strange
12:54
How much worse could Landry Jones be? You do know that Jacoby Brissett (and the Colts no less) got 31 points against that big, bad, Browns defense that held Big Ben to 14 right?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:54
Jacoby Brissett has a better quarterback rating than Roethlisberger. Just pointing that out. I don't think that will hold true over 16 games. If it does then you really know something is amiss with Roethlisberger.
Max from JAX
12:55
Ray, Storyline down here is Jax players felt Ben was slow and at times very predictable.  Very un-Ben like.  Hope it is just offense being out of sync until running game gets going.
Ray Fittipaldo
12:56
I read the quotes out of the Jacksonville locker room. Not very kind to Ben.
derrick
12:56
Do you think the Steelers will let Leveon walk after this season if his level of play continues at this abysmal pace?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:56
Why would you keep him? He's had one 100-yard rushing game.
Steve in Baltimore
12:56
The 2nd return for TD (Church) was 2 foot too high to the crybaby. Ben seemed to be trying to force balls to him all day and that's why they failed.
Ray Fittipaldo
12:57
I've had more than one person express the opinion that Roethlisberger catered too much to Brown in that game. That might be true, but no one else was making plays either.

Chuck Noll once said if you are thinking about retirement, you should do it.  Are we seeing the wisdom of those words in Ben’s play?  He does not seem to play with the same intensity and passion.  Seems like he is going through the motions.
Ray Fittipaldo
12:58
Not saying I agree but that was a theme on national programs  this morning. Lots of people have picked up on that. But it's hard for me to come out and agree with that. He's a professional athlete.
12:59
OK thanks for all the questions this week. We'll do it again next week.
