He was a great deep threat in 2014 and 2015. Nothing has changed except for him getting right with his off-field issues. From what I have seen in OTAs, the burst is still there, as it should be. He's still young and in his prime.

Am I the only person worried about the other 15 games and not the Pats. Seems like we could go 1-15 but if we beat NE it be a success on these chats
Ray Fittipaldo
12:37
No but I completely why fans obsess about the Pats. They've stood between them and the Super Bowl for a long time now.

Which team could cut ILB that the steelers would be interested i signing
Ray Fittipaldo
12:38
There are 31 other teams so I have no idea. But rest assured the pro scouts have grades on guys and know which ones they'd pursue if they are cut.
Chris

I really like ayers will he make this team thanks
Ray Fittipaldo
12:38
Chances not great due to Bryant's return and the addition of Smith-Schuster. But injuries happen and he'd be a solid replacement for Rogers if something were to happen to him in camp.

As good as ben is, his leadership ability worries me. Talking retirement to media instead of to ownership, second guessing your coordinator and contradicting your head coach on injuries.....
Ray Fittipaldo
12:39
How do you know he didn't express his thoughts to ownership before he expressed them on his radio show? The team has admitted they've had ongoing conversations the past few years.

When watching the Patriots game plus a couple of others late in the regular season, Mitchell seemed to take very poor angles and made some bullfighter attempts to tackle...could he be a June cut?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:40
No. But man did he bite on that flea flicker in the AFC title game.

With their fron three, shakier in the middle with good pass rushing ability, and a healthy Bud and the addition of Watt, I'm going to say 48 sacks this year. Over or under, Ray?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:40
I think they'd be thrilled with 48 sacks. But again, I'm taking the under. It's hard to sack the QB in the NFL.

If Bryant is actually better does that leave AB short of his 5th 100 catch season
Ray Fittipaldo
12:41
If it does, who cares as long as the offense is better?
Ryno
12:41
Odds the Steelers try for a very high OLB in the draft next season? Only reason I ask is because they tried for a superstar FA this offseason.
Ray Fittipaldo
12:41
They tried for a "superstar" ILB if that's how you want to refer to Hightower.
Chris
12:42
If we couldnt get a deal done with bell, could we trade him at years end for high first round pick.
Ray Fittipaldo
12:42
It's worth reminding everyone they can franchise him this year and next year if they want to go that route. That's why trading him when you're a Super Bowl contender make no sense.
DSF
12:43
You mention the defensive miscues against NE. How about a 13 year veteran misreading the defense and handing the ball off the dwill. Seems like everyone holds the defense, which is young and not elite to such a high standard but makes excuses when ben plays like a mediocre qb
Ray Fittipaldo
12:46
Agreed. That sequence on the goal line was awful, too. They had to score a TD there to give themselves a chance in that game. When you're first-and-goal inside the 1, you have to call a QB sneak twice before trying anything else. Their unwillingness to do that is puzzling though I suspect it goes back to Roethlisberger not loving that play. You know what? Tough. Call it and tell him not to audible. There are way too many variables with the goal line offense. I mean, on first-and-goal they pulled DeCastro to try to find a lane for Williams. The blocking assignments were all messed up because an ILB walked up to the line and timed the snap count. If you have a QB sneak called it doesn't matter. Ben simply sneaks away from the alignment. If they did one thing over the offseason I hope it's adding a QB sneak to the playbook because it's desperately needed.

Is DeAngelo a guy you see signing come camp if Conners hammy is healed? Or would they not want to cut him midseason when Conners healthy
Ray Fittipaldo
12:47
There is absolutely no indication Conner won't be ready for camp. If he is, he's the backup.
Ryno
12:47
Sorry. That was meant to be ILB. Think that could be a target for next season as a 1 or 2 round pick?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:47
Wouldn't be surprised. They also brought some first- and second-round prospects in for predraft visits this year.

I have to ask DSF what wide out was catching the ball in that game? Ben had 2 tds dropped that by Hamilton and Coates that could have changes the game
Ray Fittipaldo
12:48
Of course it could have changed the game, but the sequence on the goal line could have changed the game too. The point is, the Patriots don't screw up in those situations. When you're trying to beat the best team in the league you have to take advantage of your grade-A opportunities, and the Steelers didn't do that in that game.
12:49
Thanks for taking the time to chat some Steelers on this June Monday. Let's do it again next week.
